Decent campground, close to Seattle. It’s about 15 min from nearest gas station. Campground even had phone service (TMobile). Bathrooms were relatively clean. Each site had good privacy considering how many spots there were. Best spots were along the river, with exception of one of them. There are tons of nearby hikes, including the ever popular Rachel Lake.

The road was nearby but traffic noise wasn’t too bad. Given how many popular trails there are off the forest service roads, still plan on arriving early. There were also lots of great dispersed camping areas just past this campground.

Clean, spacious campground right on the lake. 21 miles up a forest service road that’s in mostly good condition. After the turn off, the remainder of the road is paved.

The spots along the lake (about 4-5 of them) looked pretty close together. We stayed in spot 36 - which looked like it was right in the middle of everything. It was super close to the bathroom and trailhead.

Trailhead for walupt and nanny ridge are on the campground. There was a steady stream of day hikers and backpackers. We only hiked parts of Walupt trail - it was easy one, in great shape. There were lots of smaller trails that went down to the lake. We carried things with us, hiked about a 1.5 mile in, and made an afternoon of hanging out on the lake.It was perfect!

First backpacking trip that could not have gone better! About 11 miles to Lewis Meadows camp, with minimal elevation gain. There’s about 3-4 river crossings. Trail is well maintained. Lewis Meadow is a beautiful spot. Tip: cross the dry river beds to get closer to the water and away from other campsites. Bugs/mosquitos were annoying at points, so make sure to have bug spray.

First few miles of the Hoh River Trail was pretty busy. After 5 mile island, the crowds really thins out. There’s a bathroom at 5 mile island, Olympus Guard station and Lewis Meadow.

The drive into this area is absolutely beautiful. Campground is large, with at least 3 loops. The campground itself is very clean. We saw rangers checking up and driving thru at least 6x through out day and evening. There are flush toilets and spigots throughout the loops. Bathrooms had toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

We stayed in loop 3, spot 61. It was smaller compared to other spots. This campground is big so there isn’t a ton of privacy and spots are close together. You can hear pretty much everyone’s conversations around you. Lots of RVs and families with kids. Lots of sites with dogs, so anytime people did walks with their dog, a symphony of barking dogs would start. Bring earplugs.

First night in, mosquitos were absolutely terrible. Literally swirling around us as we put up the tent. Neighbors were loud past midnight, and there was construction noise over night (woke us up around midnight and 2am).

Second night, still had noisy neighbors but these didn’t stay up as late as the ones from previous night. Mosquitos were not as bad. There was no overnight construction noise.

There are some nice hikes nearby, just be sure to plan accordingly as it gets quite warm.

Overall, while the lake was nice, it was not a place for me considering how busy and noisy it was. I did appreciate how well maintained it is though.

I wanted to introduce my boyfriend and his dog to camping and make sure they liked it. This place was perfect. Beautiful scenery (spots 4 and 6 were the only ones with river views). 

Spot 4 is very spacious, with a more private beach area. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. This campground is right off the highway, so you do hear ocasional road noise. The river is pretty loud though. Bugs were not bad and had no issues with critters trying to check you out at night. The spot is windy, but didn’t have too much of an issue getting the fire going. Other campsites were occupied, but didn’t really see or hear them. I still had plenty of internet, so didn’t feel too disconnected. Overall, it was a great spot for introducing someone to camping.
