This is a great location close to the cities. It was really fun to hike along the river. Very pretty. I went there after a couple heavy rains, but it wasn't really washed out - which was nice! The bugs were awful, but I think they were awful everywhere at that time.
The trails here are amazing! Very well kept by the Twin Cities Trail Riders. Even a newer rider could handle the single track at a slow pace. There are also state forest roads and ATV trails for a different experience. Not a huge fan of the campground - bunch of sites out in the open by the road in what looks like an old baseball diamond - but you could probably ride in a little further and find a fun spot to camp.
We arrived super late on Friday night and were worried we wouldn't find a site because it's FCFS, but all the sites were empty! It's primitive - 1 outhouse, fire pits and picnic tables at each site - which was all we needed :) There is a pretty stream about 500 feet from the site and some really fun dirt bike trails. The view of the bluffs were amazing.
It was hard to find a campsite because it's first-come-first-serve, but we were able to find a spot closer to the trails. There was a beautiful lake near the campgrounds and miles and miles of easy/intermediate OHV/ATV trails. A little sandy, but still fun! Would definitely go back.
