Mostly roadside pull-offs with some drive-in & larger sites available. Come earlier for better sites! Lots of good options for car campers to wake up with a view of Rainer. No cell signal with AT&T. Close to Ashland (15ish minutes) where you can get gas and groceries. Great views of Rainer from most sites, and not a far drive to the park.
I stayed at one of these sites on Tinkham road while hiking a section of the PCT. Get there early to get the better sites. Plenty down the road though if all of the initial sites are full. Pretty wooded sites, some you can pull down into. Unfortunately, most sites are pretty trashed. Still a pretty area and a good location.
Although the sites are still available online to reserve, I drove here to find out that the camp was closed. I headed back on that same road and found a pull-off spot to suffice for the night. Not sure if dispersed camping is allowed outside of the park, but there was definitely evidence that people have been camping at pull-offs. Pretty area!
I camped on another spur road off of FS 2656. Definitely download the mvum from Avenza beforehand to make things easier. Peaceful, quiet, and I had cell signal. Road can be rough in some places but 4WD not necessary. Not many pull-in camping spots so you’ll have to search around. Overall decent spot and close to Trillium Lake
Sites were secluded and quiet. I found a site nearby the creek so that I could hear the stream all night. It was so peaceful! There are a couple forks in the road but I kept right through the first two until I made it to a gravel road with pull-outs. Nice areas for tent or car camping. Only one other group out there
Very secluded but spacious sites. From the start of Marlow Creek Road to where I chose to camp was 8.5 miles. There are several forks in the road that you can follow to more campsites, but I opted to camp right off the main road. I was the only car out there. Really beautiful spots aside from the trash that was unfortunately scattered in several sites. Worth the long drive in.
Stopped here for a night so that I could be close to the Redwood Parks. I opted for one of the more secluded sites that cost a few dollars more, but ended up being glad I splurged. The regular tent sites are close together but not bad. The secluded spots offer a good deal of privacy. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Staff was friendly.
Decent camping if you just need somewhere to stay for the night. I don’t think it was anything to write home about, but it wasn’t bad by any means. As others have said, the turn is very easy to miss (there isn’t a turning lane), and if you miss the turn then you will have to take another 10ish minutes to u-turn and try again. I’d recommend having the map from this app open and driving super slow as you approach if you’re arriving at night. I looked for fire rings and didn’t see too many, but there are tons of pull-offs. Not very busy when I visited in June. I felt good being close to a main road, but wasn’t disturbed from the noise of it.
This place was slightly hard to find, but obtaining a MVUM for the region made it a lot easier. The sites are very spread out and there weren’t many people there, despite it being a weekend in June when I visited. No cell service at my site, just sporadic on the road in. Would definitely stay here again
I needed a place to car camp for the night and this place was easy enough. Keep following the road until it becomes dirt, and there are plenty of pull offs. I saw several cars making it up the road just fine, but I wouldn’t have wanted to take a car up there. Road gets rough the further up you get. Pretty busy in June but I arrived late and had no problem finding a secluded spot to pull off.
