Love camping with my husband so I can annoy him outside of the house too.

Lake in the middle of a desert

The campground was well maintained, but the sites were so close together. Getting from loop E to the water was a trek. We tried 3 water spigots before we found one that worked. The bathrooms were well maintained. It was very beautiful sunsets. Lots of trash in the res though. It seems as if people just don’t care about their surroundings. We only saw 1 fish jump out while we were there so fishing was pretty lackluster.

Pretty, but cold

It was a really nice campground. The hosts were SO gracious. They came up and talked to us about things to do and see and gave us a map of Leadville. The bathrooms there were kept up very nicely even though they were vault toilets. The lake itself was rather low when we went but still pretty. Would go again!

Beautiful

It was absolutely beautiful the time of year I went. It didn’t feel like I was in Colorado, it felt like I was in a sea of gold. So beautiful and so out of the way. It seemed like no one knew about it!

An unexpected family tradition

This campground is gorgeous. The lake is amazing and the sites are very spacious. I love the addition of the bear boxes. This campground was found on a whim about 5 years ago and now it’s the one we have to go to every year. The hosts are always very friendly and the town is adorable. It’s an amazing place to get away from the world for a bit and to become one with nature. It truly looks like it’s snapshotted from a postcard. I have multiple pictures of dowdy lake on canvases and in picture frames around my house. I took my husband up there for the first time last year and he wasn’t used to this kind of camping (he was military so think non leisure) and he just loved fishing out on the lake and taking me fishing too. It’s simply incredible.
