We took our 1st trip to Point Lookout the 1st week of June, glad we did. Tulip Loop has full hookups which was great, but the sites are basically in a swamp. I think we were there before the mosquitos. I'm sure with all the standing water they'd be everywhere!! We didn't have much cover from trees, so we were in the sun most of the time. The trail wasn't under any tree cover either so be prepared to bake in the sun in you walk it. The museum was till closed because of covid, I guess. No internet access at the campsite, but could get it if you were a few feet away from the Loop. It's a complete dead spot for Verizon anyway. Not good if you're working while camping. The sites were very large, lots of room, but standing water was just a few feet from the border logs. It rained the day we arrived. There wasn't a lot of rocks down, so we had mud all weekend, it never dried up. You can see the mud in the picture.
We took out 1st trip to Tuckahoe over the 4th of July weekend. We really liked the park, but beware, the sites can be small! I watched people with 25+ footers struggle to back into the sites. We booked site 21, blind. The web site does not say site 21 is extremely small. We have a 25' camper, and it barely fit, length and with were an issue. The firepit was about 3-4 feet from our door. No camp fires as it was not safe. The canopy was directly over the pit!! It also rained pretty hard one day, and since we couldn't put the mat in front of the door, there was water & mud right when you stepped out. I could not move the pit because it was cemented in. If you go to Tuckahoe don't reserve site 21 unless you're tent camping!!! Other that that issue, it wasn't a bad visit, there's lots to do. We made a list of sites we'd fit in and still have room to use the firepit and our stuff. Going to book future trips!
Very hot for an early spring trip. Not much shade in the sites here. The trail isn’t shaded either. Store & museum still closed, because of covid I guess. Staff very nice. Camp hosts are pretty much nonexistent as compared to other MD State Parks. I think we’re in a swamp. I assume mosquitos get very nasty here pretty soon! There’s standing water surrounding my site. Full hookups rock!
Just took our 1st trip to Rocky Gap. Very happy with the site, the bath house, and the park itself. Looking forward to going back soon.
This was our first trip here. We brought the grandkids out for a few days of relaxing and unwinding in the woods. The 3-yo had no issues on the trails. The volunteer staff were awesome and extremely helpful. Can’t wait to come back!!
