A Week of Paradise

Spent a week here and had a blast! Camp sites are fairly well spaced, though not private. Area is split with power and no power. Vault style restrooms are very clean and regularly maintained. A great, centralized location for quite a few natural wonders and a hop, skip, and a jump away from quite a few more!

Horrible!

We found this place during a last minute Labor Day weekend scramble. Sounded good on paper.Gave them a call and found cabins were booked (as expected) and the only availability was 1st come 1st served. With a 7 hour drive ahead of us, we explained we needed more reassurances there would be a place for us. We were told we could rent the Pavillion out each day and camp in the beautiful grass field surrounding it, away from everyone. PERFECT!!! After a long day of work and an all night drive, I'm 36 hours no sleep when we arrive just after 7am. And immediately I can sum this place up in 2 simple words…HOBO CAMP. The gazebo was smack in the middle of everyone with extension cables running to it from all directions. The grass field was a gravel field. Broken down busses and old canoes littered the grounds. And we were also greeted by a festering dead squirrel on the way to the office. This place was so bad, I was ready to do another 7 back home right then and there before pulling my tent out the truck. (We found Big Fir at Lake Ouachita from this travesty and our weekend quickly, and vastly, improved! See my review on it!!)

An incredible Hidden Gem

Last minute circumstances caused us to scramble for a new place for our annual Labor Day campout. We found a small place online and reserved a spot. A 7-hour drive later, we arrive to what can only be described as a hobo camp. Bad doesn't come close to describing this place. I was ready to drive 7 hours back home before staying an this travesty of a campground! My two partners in crime began scanning the local state and national parks, looking for anything suitable for a drive up campsite. We found a review of Big Fir and seeing it was only 45 minutes away, we gave it a shot! And we were not disappointed!!! Flat land on a Lake Peninsula secluded from nearly everyone! And even the few other campers that did arrive were barely noticeable! As an all guys trip, we don't mind a lack of bathroom facilities, but when available, are happy to use them! These were powerless, but clean! A nice treat after a terrible start.

10/10 and am already making plans to go back, next time with the boat in tow!!!

August 2009 Bachelor's Weekend

4 days of camping with the guys, exploring caves and trails, and overall having a blast!

Bachelor's Weekend

July 28-July 31Bachelor Party

The Good:

Beautifullandscape, friendly people, crystal clear, ice cold water to swim in.

The Bad:

Extremely busy. Little privacy anywhere in the park. Chiggers are horrible this time of year. Unable to cut firewood for ourselves.

3/5 Overall Experience
