Awesome spot near Colorado Springs!

I’m so glad we found this spot, because it’s not an easy find online. This free campsite is about 40 minutes from Colorado Springs, which sounds kinda far, but the gorgeous views on the way up are stunning, so it makes it feel like a shorter drive! It is on a long dirt road, but you’ll be fine if it’s not calling for rain or hasn’t rained too hard recently. We found a gorgeous spot, and it seems like there are a lot of spots available as the road is very long. Open Fires are not permitted, at least right now. And our site did not have a fire ring. The sites were trashy, there was toilet paper all around. Please respect the land. People zoom down this dirt road so be cautious. The nights are cool and not buggy at all! I believe the elevation is over 7,000ft. There was a great 4mile round trip flat, easy hike walking distance from our campsite to Rampart Reservoir! Highly recommend! We walked it around 7AM- it was so quiet and the water was lovely. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the trash! Plug these coordinates in Google maps and it’ll take you there! GPS: 38.96252, -104.99779

A decent option

I was excited to find this free site so close to Glenwood (30 minute drive). We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and all the sites were taken up, except for one really nice and open one we took. There was no shade at our site, so it would be unbearable to stay there during the day. Our site was on sand, right next to the water so it was very windy and we had to tie our tent down to the shrubs surrounding our tent (so be prepared.) The view was stunning, BUT the site was soooooo dirty. It was depressing to see toilet paper everywhere (there is a bathroom at this site!) and trash all over. Please clean up after yourselves ♥️. My husband and I had no cell service and we are on two different carriers (sprint+T-Mobile) which is something to consider. I woke up at 6:30AM and just outside of our tent there was a black bear in our campsite watching us. It was a really cool experience but the bears are definitely coming for all the food trash left behind. STORE your food- keep yourself and the bears safe. Pretty buggy, but no mosquitoes.
