Staying close, but not too close, to route 30 provides easy access to Fort Wayne without all the road noise. Live music on the weekends adds to the charm of this family campground. Sites to accommodate RVs or tents are available.
I’m glad we stayed four nights here. It gave us enough time to see both good and bad from this lovely state park. The bad included small sites, overcrowding, and a lot of raccoon activity. But the good was beautiful scenery, lots of amenities, a wonderful camp store, and a lot of friendly people!
While staying in the area, we decided to go check out this campground for a future stay. When we arrived at the road leading to the entrance (marked only by colorful flags) there was an event blocking us from getting to the campground itself. About a dozen golf carts were lined up to participate in some manner of blindfolded cart rally. I’m not sure if this was a campground sanctioned event, but it was on land where their sign used to be (remains looked like a storm and time had taken it out). So, unfortunately we weren’t able to tour the grounds or get more information, but the adjacent lake did look beautiful!
Gravel sites, electric, play areas for kids. Close to the flea market! Nice place to park for a few days in Amish country. Fun at the pavilion!
Such a gem! Tiny municipal campground, but part of a much larger recreation area. Everything seems new or at least well maintained. Couldn’t believe this location hasn’t gotten more attention. See pics for the many amenities in this park!
Bong has a diverse set of activities available from hiking to model airplanes. What they do seem to lack is very spacious camp sites. Facilities are well maintained, and you can certainly have an enjoyable time here. Our family will likely camp here again this season due to Bong’s convenient proximity.
The family enjoyed a long holiday weekend in Loop 1 of the Pinewood camp ground. The sites were very nice with some decent foliage between sites. The space was generous so we didn’t feel crowded. The camp store was handy for ice and firewood. Our hike to the scenic overlook was pleasant - bring your binoculars!
This little gem is across the river from Starved Rock State Park. So, you can appreciate the bluff overlooks of the river without dealing with the crowds. Real live Buffalo are a treat for kids and animal lovers. A number of trails around effigy mounds make for a nice walk.
Starved Rock State Park and the surrounding area has some of the most beautiful views in north central Illinois. We’ve spent many days exploring trails for river views, bluffs and overlooks, even waterfalls! There is so much to see here! Whether you stay in a tent, cabin, or the resort, you’re sure to find a treasure for the eyes and spirit. Just note that the peak season is really crowded these days!
My mother-in-law was a member here for years. My family would frequently visit her camper during the summers. Always a great time! My company even hosted employee appreciation events here a few times. The list of amenities is remarkable, but membership is required. The beach and lake were always well maintained, and we had often enjoyed live music at the pavilion. You can even play mini golf here! I would highly recommend for anyone that can invest. I didn’t make the review 5 stars because of the need for membership, but some may find that appealing if they want an exclusive experience.
Had a great time last weekend at Rock Cut. The camp grounds and roads were well maintained, and the larger park as a whole was very clean and spacious. Toilet facilities are about the average for a state park, but hopefully you will spend most of your time outside of them enjoying nature. We spotted turtles along the lakeshore, very healthy (well fed) chipmunks, and a large variety of birds which made beautiful background sounds. Plenty of mixed use trails for hikers, joggers, and cyclists. The lakes were gorgeous and it looked like fishing folks were having a good time. The sheer variety of sites and styles make this a campground worth returning to again and again. Tent, RV, Cabin, all looked enjoyable. Looking forward to going back in warmer months!
