I had a pleasant experience at Codorus State Park Campground during my 3 day stay. Me and my partner stayed at Codorus mid-October 2022 and booked during this week specifically to experience the peak fall foliage of the area.
After arriving at Codorus, we checked in at the visitor station which was quick and easy. After arriving to our campsite, we were quick to set up camp so that we could head to the camp store and purchase our firewood for the night. Upon arrival to the site (loop A, site 36), I noticed how close together the sites were, I specifically booked this site at Codorus because based on the photos on the website, it seemed quite secluded. However, in person, it felt somewhat crowded.
The camp store (near the visitor center) was small but seemed to have everything that a camper may need during their trip. They have two options for bags of firewood, including a small bag and a large bag. We found that the large bag was barely enough for a decent campfire, so plan on bringing enough money to purchase a couple bags at a time (the store accepts cash and card). The camp store (at least in October) is only open On Fridays and Saturdays from around 2:30-7, so plan accordingly. Any other time, firewood and ice and can be purchased right next door at the 24-hour fire and ice store. Here, campers can purchase firewood for $10 a bin. Make sure you bring cash when purchasing fire or ice from the kiosk, as you must leave your money in the slot when purchasing.
The rangers at Codorus were not too nosey or too big of sticklers. Occasionally, rangers would ride by our camp site a few times every hour, but did not bother us. The bathrooms located by the sites are super clean, which was a big plus. Water spouts are located throughout the campground for clean water.
During our stay, we hiked the Mary Ann Furnace Trail. This trail led to the lake, which is especially beautiful during the Fall season. If your group is looking for something to do, you are able to rent boats to take on the lake. There is also an amphitheater and a playground for the kids.
Overall, Codorus State Park Campground is a great place to stay. Personally, I prefer my campgrounds to be more secluded so I would likely find a new campground to try, but if you are not too worried about that then you will have a wonderful experience.
