Really nice campground with easy access to the Atalaya Castle (great photo ops here.) There is a nice nature center, walking trails with views of the wetlands/marshes so lots of opportunities to see wildlife. Just across the street from brookgreem gardens too, which you need to check out for a beautiful outing!
Camped here numerous times throughout the years. Always had a good time. Rangers are nice and helpful. We park our John Boat at our tent camping site without any problems. They seem to be adding a splash pad area for the kids. A couple of big playgrounds at the park too. A decent lake for fishing and paddle boat (at least I think) rentals. Picnic tables and charchol grills are availble near the lake as well.
This campground has been my family’s favorite my entire childhood!! Lots of campgrounds available. Right off Lake Michigan. Great trails for easy bike riding. Helpful, friendly staff
Came here to escape the pending doom of a hurricane last year. Really nice! We stayed right off a tiny lake in the campground, up in the mountains with a beautiful view. My husband got to fly fish so it was an unexpected surprise. Seem to have a lot of kids activities. All the staff was great and friendly.
I've been to this park at least 10 times to camp. Right down the street from my house, and great to test out to see how the kiddo fares in a tent.
Pros:
beach is just a short block from the sites.
Good variety of tent and RV sites available.
state park has multiple playgrounds, a pier, and some decent trails, with lots of picnic enclosures.
cons:
right next to the airport, so you hear that all day. And a busy road.
pretty expensive, IMO.
