Meramec State Park was such a nice place. The swimming area is large and easy to get to from the campground. Meramec caverns is just a short 10 minute drive up the road and is absolutely beautiful. There are also many canoe and kayak rental places around. We spent a day just floating down the Meramec River and it was so relaxing and just what the doctor ordered!
We absolutely loved our stay here. The staff was all very polite and helpful. We had a nice shady campsite that was pretty secluded. They have a really neat pioneer village to explore that you have to visit while you're there!
The campground is very nice and well kept. The campsites arent very secluded though if that is something you are looking for. There is a nice hike to an old fire tower that is pretty neat.
The park is very primitive with no electricity. There is running water but you have to walk quite a ways to get to it if you arent camping by it. There are no shower houses and the bathrooms are just a glorified porta potty. Aside from lacking amenities it is a very quiet and pretty place to camp.
We went to Lake Rudolph for their Halloweekends and it is a one of a kind experience. They have so many activities for the kids such as hayrides, a DJ, pumpkin carving, and so many other things throughout the day! It was so neat seeing the campsites and golf carts decorated and lit up at night. If you get the chance to go, do it!
