I love camping and typically prefer the privacy and quite of rustic national forest campgrounds (I hate generators).

Every campsite has a lakefront view!

This is a nice state forest campground that is only $15/night and literally every site has waterfront view. It's a rustic campground with pump water (very high mineral content) and vault toilets. It also has a picnic area and boat launch. A huge bonus is unlike all of the national forest campgrounds in the area, no reservations are required.

Wooded inland lake campground three minutes from Lake Superior.

This campground has nicely shaded sites well spaced from each other. The facilities are clean and well maintained (nice for vaulted toilets). There’s also a park on the lake with a small beach and a boat launch. There are also many places to rent kayaks right down the road.

Always our first stop on Highway 2.

When camping in the UP this is usually where we stay the first night. It's a nice rustic campground with outhouses and water hand pumps. We always swing into Wildwood Pasties for breakfast before heading out to our destination - yum!

Quiet, rustic campground on the river and near a great brewery.

Nice campground, well shaded and decently spaced out sites. Not too full even on a holiday weekend! Likely due to the fact there is a beautiful large state park nearby if you need more amenities.

There's also a great little brewery only 2.5 miles away which has a food truck that serves some awesome meals. We made the trip into Traverse City for the Cherry Festival to see the Blue Angels and took Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive which is worth the fee.

Nice campground, very convenient for river trips.

We stay here at least once a year and do an annual river trip with a bunch friends. It's a nice campground with a small park, pond, full bathrooms, group sites, and even a couple small cabins. It's great for river trips since we got upstream and can float all the way into camp and no worry about driving. We make a run the next morning for coffee and to pick up the vehicles left at the launch.

One of my favorite places.

Great campground overlooking Lake Superior with absolutely gorgeous river trails!

Small quite campground, good swimming and fun fishing.

This is a rustic national forest campground with some very pretty sites, a good beach for swimming, and a small boat launch and pier for fishing. Definitely would visit again!

Nice state campground

Nice paved path through the campground, great for kids riding bikes around camp. They also have a playground with a cool old fashion slide. As far as state parks go, I rate this campground a well although personally I'd prefer a quieter national forest campground with fewer people.

Beautiful campground on the Foothills Parkway.

We stayed here for almost two weeks and it was wonderful. For most of our stay it was just us, the host site, and maybe one or two other sites on the weekend. We are Michiganders and made the error of traveling South in the summer, if we hadn't found this place we might have gone home early due to the heat, but the elevation (2,7249 ft.) made it perfect weather, and the hosts were excellent. We even got to see bears! There is a state campground near the base, but it was crowded and noisy. Unfortunately I've been informed this campground is no longer in operation, so sad.

White Birch & pine forest on bluff overlooking Lake Superior

Gorgeous campground for those who enjoy rustic camping (no utilities). This place is extremely popular and reservations are not taken, so arrive early. It took us two tries before we landed a site here (Hurricane River is a good backup spot). The North County Trail passes right through this campsite; the only downside is, no dogs allowed on the trail (we were issued a warning).

Perfect lakefront campground with hiking trail.

Wonderful campground! We have stayed here twice. There are quite a few sites right on the lake, and all the sites are well spaced out, with a good balance of shade and sun. Sites on the water can get a little breezy if inclimate weather rolls in. The campground has outhouses, pump water, is dog friendly, and some sites have electricity. Great for campers or tents. There is also a nice three mile hiking trail right off the campground.
