Great scenery, crowded campsite

This campsite was far too crowded for my taste. Space 188 is right on top of it's neighbors with little privacy. That said, I rated it higher due to the proximity to some beautiful hikes. The campground is a bit of a 'lazy camper' dream with a big market and showers. Bathrooms were tidy. This isn't roughing it in the wilderness, if that's what you are after. Spotted in campground: chipmunks, mosquitos, snakes and squirrels.

Nice mostly private spaces

Spaces very quite a bit here, but I lucked in a fairly large somewhat private space. They are assigned as you check in at the gate, not reserved in advance like other campsites. I walked to the beach, but due to tides had to run across a very busy highway (PCH 1). At low tide there is a walkway to the beach. The beach itself has a lot of tar which left my feet black for the trip. That was the only downfall. I preferred the campgroud to the beach and would visit again sometime. Note: lots of large groups book this campground for day parties and events. Some even bring catering trucks and tables.

semi-private, not many hikes

This campsite has semi-private sites which are nice, but they are overrun with ants. It's the most I've seen at any campground. Not a lot of hikes in the area, but there's wine tasting a short drive up the road. The campground host was very nice.
