We are a DAV family. After years of surgeries from injuries my husband sustained during deployment we decided to fulfill our dreams and travel our beautiful Country. Life is to short not to enjoy it.

Right on the Bay

We stayed 14 nights in one of the Bay sites. Really enjoyed the view and sunsets. We watched Dolphins right in front of us every day. Pros: Bayfront site's view, easy in and out, easy set up, fishing, close to stores and restaurants, nice pavillion with picnic table at each site, Nice dock to fish off of and can fish right at your site. Clean restrooms. Pet friendly with 6ft leash rule. Cons: TTs and 5th wheels are supposed to back in. This causes the pavillion to be on the wrong side. You open your door to your neighbors pavillion. Motorhomes, Cs & Bs can pull in so the pavillion is on the correct side however the W&E hookups are then on the wrong side. (They are working to fix this issue) Wooded section is not big rig friendly. Low hanging branches and many sites difficult to back in to. (We didn't stay in this section, we drove through without 5th wheel) The air boats. There are 3-5 different ones that come in and out ALL day every day starting around 6:30am. They are so loud they vibrate the campers.

Peaceful

Nice spacing between sites. Big rig friendly, level and full hookups. Clean and well kept park sitting along the canal. Quick walk to beach. Very quiet and peaceful. No attractions or stores near by.

Convenient

Right off I-10. Stayed 1 night. Owner is so nice. Park is well kept. Nice dog park. Little road noise but not horrible.

Easy on and off highway

Stayed 1 night on our way from Florida to Texas. Very convenient location just 2 mins off I-10. Gas station next door. Nice staff. Pull through sites that the staff guides you to. Big rig friendly

November 2021

Nice clean CG. Pool and hot tub well kept. Staff very friendly. When making reservations make sure to book towards the center of the park. We were in site 129A. The road noise was constant and loud. Site 127A was so close to us that our picnic table was beside their septic hose. Would stay here again just in an inner site.

Nice Mil CG just prepare for stay

This is our 2nd time staying here.
This park is aka Shields. Park has 2 sections. Sect A has grass sites. Sect B has concrete pads and a separate area for tents. Each section has a laundry room and shower building. We stayed in B. Sites are wide and level and have full hookups with 30/50 amp. Good water pressure. Sites are all back ins, Big rig friendly and easy to set up. No matter where you park there is a nice view of the Bay.
I'd give it a 5 star rating but there are a few items that need to be fixed or prepared for. 1st the roads really need to be repaired. Potholes are horrible in some areas. 2nd the picnic tables are so rusted through that many are unusable. 3rd the goat heads or grass burrs are a nightmare especially if you step on one in the middle of the night. Ouch!! LOL If you have dogs (we do) they absolutely can't run in the grass. We bought our pups doggy boots which help some. And this time we brought our leaf blower to blow them off the concrete pad. 4th the winds here can reach 60 mph. Just prepare for it by never leaving awnings out and when bad bring slides in so awning toppers don't get ripped off. (It happened to our neighbors last year) Ants, there are tons of them. I use citronella spray around our leveling gear and tires to deter them from living with us. Lastly if you don't want salt on your rigs don't come here. There are times when its so thick you could use an ice scraper.
Even with those items we really like it here. You can't beat the location to Padre Island and Port Aransas. The sunsets are amazing and walking the private beach daily is never tiring.

Tranquil

Love this ACOE Campground. Stayed here 2 weeks. Peaceful, nice sites with great water view. Leveling our 40ft 5th wheel was a breeze. Enjoyed watching the yachts and boats going into the Lock. Saw bald eagles, red breasted hawks and osprey as well as hundreds of dragonflies. There are resident gopher turtles that meander through the sites. Close to restaurants and shopping. Only 20 minute ride to so many beautiful beaches. Bathroom and shower very clean.
Will be back again.

Not horrible but not great

I agree with the review before mine. The sites are nice by the ponds. Good spacing between them and clean looking. The back sites (sect C) had rigs that have been there a while. Some with old discarded air conditioners on the picnic tables or junk around them. We unfortunately were next to a couple that allowed their dog to poop all over their site and never once picked up after it. The location of this park is conveniently located to scenic Route A1A and plenty of stores.

Nice Military CG

Really enjoyed our 10 day stay. Concrete pad was level making set up quick and easy. Great water pressure. Free washers and dryers. Beach is a short walk and is beautiful. Our dogs enjoyed the fenced dog park. Loved watching the ships come in and out. Everyone we met were so friendly. Would definitely stay again.

Busy fishing CG

Very busy and popular CG with the local fishermen. Some sites on the water way. Those are very busy with locals walking through the sites to fish and tons of road traffic to the boat launch. We stayed in the area divided by foliage. Much quieter and a lot less traffic. Had a beautiful view of the Laguna Atascosa sanctuary behind us. 30/50 amp service with full hookups. All sites are back in and gravel but easy to level our 40ft 5th wheel.
If you have dogs be careful. While we were there they were having a problem with the Javelinas. A pack attacked our neighbor's dog and bit the owner as she tried to save her pug. A day later we were chased by them at our site when we were out with our dogs. Carry a club of some sort. I scared them with a loud dog whistle. The rangers were notified and they contacted animal control.

Beautiful

Very picturesque. Nice sites right by the water. Clean, quiet CG. Make sure you have a long electric cable. Service was on the wrong side if you want to face the lake.

"LETRA" on Fort Sill Base

Military CG on Fort Sill's base. Spent 5 weeks here. Scenery and base is beautiful. It's in the Wichita Mountains near Mt Scott and Medicine Park. Clean lake with paddle boat and kayak rentals. Mini golf, beach and water slides. Nice museum and Indian Cemetaries on base. Saw geese, fox, Coyotes, Buffalo, prairie dogs and rattle snakes. All sites are pull through and fairly level. Full hookups with 30 & 50 amp service. Laundry room with 4 washers & dryers, $1 (when working). There is also a laundrette by the Commissary. Didn't use showers or restroom but checked them out. Ladies room was very dated and needs a really good cleaning.
There are a lot of long term rvs. Some not stayed in by the owners the entire time we were there. We didn't have any issue getting the site we reserved as someone mentioned in a previous review. The staff was nice when we asked to change our site to one with a better view. Biggest con was absolutely no warning on their site that there is training going on all around the CG. If you have a Veteran with PTSD like I do prepare him/her that they shoot howitzer rounds at any given time. We had no clue and the 1st week there was a rough one for my DAV. Do not use Letra Gate. It's closed. Ignore GPS and go to Apache Gate. Better yet set GPS for Apache Gate. It's the quickest route and you won't have to drive through the busy base and narrow roads.

Falcon State Park

We stayed here for 15 nights in February 2021. The park itself is beautiful. Walking trails, dirt trails you can drive your truck on to the lake and the lake is beautiful. The place is so clean and well maintained. There are deer, javelinas, buffalo and mountain lions that walk through your site and tons of birds to see. We were told it's a Fisherman's paradise. VERY busy on weekends with boaters. At the time we visited they were only allowing every other site to be occupied due to social distancing. It gave us tons of room between the pull through u-shaped sites. The sites well that's the problem. Sites 201-231 are sloped badly. If your rig is 20ft and under you probably won't have an issue. However, larger rigs beware. It was impossible for us to level our 40ft 5th wheel on our reserved site 230. Our drivers side wheels came off the ground and we had to abort auto leveling as the front jack's were fully extended and still trying to level. The staff is aware of the leveling issue and allowed us to park between 2 sites. (BTW the rangers are very nice and helpful.) We still needed blocks under a leveling jack and had to park our passenger side tires off the blacktop site on the dirt to level. Also, the narrow u-shaped sites are difficult to pull in and out of due to large wooden poles that protect the hookups on both sides of the site. When the park's at full capacity I can see large rigs really having issues. In fact one 5th wheel got caught on one of the poles and it had to be cut down to get the rig off of it.

There is no wifi available but our Verizon cell and hotspot worked great. The park is in the middle of nowhere. The closest stores are over 20 miles away. We like being away from things so we didn't mind.

Converted former military installation

The RV park is in an old Military installation that has been converted into housing, camping, golf course, swimming at the spring and has a museum. The grounds are very pretty. The CG is well worth the $19 (with Veterans Discount) per night for a pull through with full hookups. Sites are level with pea-stone and hard packed gravel. Easiest setup so far. CG has a clean laundry room for only $1 a load, community room with books for sharing and a nice community use fire pit area. The staff is so nice and very knowledgeable about the Fort's history and local area. Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the sites are close to each other and wifi is null. Verizon is good and we used out hotspot for TV & laptop.

Beautiful CG and Park

Spent 4 days in site 8 with 39ft 5th wheel TH. Beautiful Park and so well kept. The site has black top pad and sand with crushed stone. Easily accommodated our rig. Nice foliage between sites. Could hardly see our neighbors. Beautiful paved walking path to the Spring from the CG. There is a boardwalk to the Spring Boil and stairs to enter the spring. There are many other gravel trails to walk that are cleared. The spring is so clean and clear. Tube rental is $6 for 1 hr. No extra costs for touring the Thursby house and swimming in the spring. For such a busy park it is so peaceful. Excellent cell service had 4G. Close to tons of stores should you need anything, 35 mins to Daytona and 40ish to Orlando or Ormond.
No manatee while we were here. We're planning on coming back next year.
Watch out for fire ants. Our site had a few if you disturb the sand. We have a pup that likes to dig. I used citronella oil spray around the pen and the ants stayed clear.

Nice park

Stayed 10 days in site 20 with our 39ft 5th wheel. Overview: The park is very clean and well kept. On weekends it was packed, Weekdays 1/2 capacity and quiet. There is access to the Edisto River for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Park is in the boonies but within an hours ride to Charleston and many nice tourist spots. All sites are sand and some crushed stone. Outer ring sites are divided by foliage. Inner sites are much closer together and back to back.
Cons: Our site was listed as 45x75. We were lucky if it was 25x47. It also had a tree in the middle of it making it tight to back in the 5th wheel toy hauler. Their site descriptions need to be updated on their website. No cell service or wifi. MOSQUITOES!! We couldn't sit outside due to the little vampires. They did spray pesticide at 1 am 2 nights before we left. However, they didn't warn us they were doing so. So anyone with windows open or in tents breathed it in. If you're allergic to poison ivy be careful. It's everywhere including the sites.
Overall its a nice place to stay for a short visit. Bring lots of bug spray.

Very nice clean rv park

Located within minutes of I81. We stopped for 2 nights to see the Shenandoah National Park on our way to NC. Called last minute and got a site. Very nice customer service. Grounds were very well kept. Our site 112 had water, 50amp and cable. Dump station on premises. Nice dog park for our fur babies and doggie duty stations with bags in several locations throughout the park. Also had a cute playground for kiddos. Didn't use the pool so can't comment. A little highway noise but when windows and door were closed couldn't hear a thing. We'd stay here again. They honor Good Sam discount. Paid $38 with discount.
