Big sites, great fishing!

One of my favorite places to camp! The sites there are big!!! We usually get 2 sites and place as many as 5 tents between the 2 sites! Watch out for the skunks and raccoons on this island, they are huge from partaking in campers food! The park is very large, you can get in a few miles for a run or bike ride! Great price for camping! There is a boat launch for your own boat or you can rent a boat. The fishing on the St. Lawrence is awesome!!! Catch some perch and have a fish fry back at camp! If you fish near the boat rental there is a place to clean you fish! Perfect place to camp if you want to go to Alexandria Bay! Great shopping and great restaurants! Make sure you visit Bolt Castle! Happy Camping!

Beautiful views! Wild life!

I can not say enough good things about Shenandoah! You can take a drive down skyline drive and pull off to numerous view points!!! I could not get enough of the views! If you are a hiker, take advantage of the trails. There are many trails, including the AT that goes through the park! Be cautious of black bears, they are there!!!! The campground is great for tent camping!!! You must lock up your food in the park! Don't even leave your cooler out or you will get fined! Come prepared and you will have a great experience!!!! Happy Camping!

Access to the AT

The greatest feature of this park is that there is access to the AT! And there are plenty of hiking trails! I do not care for the campsites. The size is not to bad but they are in need of some grooming. I would return for day use but I probably would not camp there again. Happy Camping!!

Spacious sites!

Great ground! We dry camped while we were there and had a great time. Bathrooms were clean. I do have to say that campers at night were not so quite. I like to hear the crickets at night not people. Great for kids, park close by! And right by Watkins Glen. Hiked the trails with kids!

Stay the night, enjoy the water falls!

This is great camping at a low cost! They have tent sites available and camping with electric! Plenty of trees and great amount of shade!!! You will enjoy the wildlife in this park! There are a bunch of trails to explore! There are a few over looks that provides a beautiful view!!!! And of course there are gorgeous waterfalls!!! Take a hike you can get pretty close to a few of them! Happy Camping!!!

Hike the trails, close to major attractions!

This is one of the larger state parks we have been to. If you don't like a crowd may want to stay somewhere else. (339 sites, that's a lot of campers) There are a ton of sites!!!! They offer electric sites and traditional camping sites. There are dog sites available! You can camp near the playground and are able to watch your kids play (around site 247) Not all of the sites are spacious but you do have more room than private parks! The great thing about this park are the trails! You can take lakeside trail around the lake (I forget the distance to complete the loop) Trails are good for trail runs or hiking (some single track though so yield to bikers) They offer a Lake for fishing and there is a boat launch! The great thing is you are close enough to many area attractions, including Hershey PA! Happy Camping!

Close to PA Grand Canyon

Hills Creek is a great park to camp! When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the sites and many sites now offer full hook up!!! We did not know this on arrival as it wasn't on the site! The site was very spacious!!! Plenty of room!!!! Bathrooms were clean!!! Plenty of shade and trees to hang your hammock for relaxing! There are some short trails through the campground! Lake available for swimming complete with snack bar, including ice cream!!! The rangers offer educational programs that are free of charge! Near by attractions: PA Grand Canyon! Beautiful!!!! Go for the day and take hike! Plan on many steps though!!! You are also close to a cute little town called Wellsboro! Go and visit for the day! Warning, there are black bears and other wild life at Hills Creek, take care to lock up your coolers!!! We heard some fighting raccoons at night! Happy Camping!

No shade, set up on the wrong side! :/

Lums Pond is one of my least favorite places to camp! We arrived to find what seemed more like a large field! Very few trees, not much shade at all! The site offered electric and water but they were on 2 different sides. This made it difficult to set up. Had to park the camper crooked to use both. Some of the campers that were there looked like they lived there and did not tend to their sites. There was trash and broken down cars! The bathrooms were awful. Looked like they were rarely cleaned! To do activities at the park you have to drive to a different area, there is a charge but not if you are a registered camper. We spent most of our time there. They have a large pond that you can rent paddle boats and small v-bottom boats! We did enjoy the paddle boats and saw a few cranes! They offer fishing at the pond which was also enjoyable! Good for a day trip, no for camping! Happy Camping!

Top Notch! Huge campsites!

What a wonderful stay! This is one of my favorite campgrounds!!! I will start at the beginning! When you book online you can not pick your site! This is the only campground I have stayed at that I could not pick the site. You book online the dates you would like. The day you arrive it is first come first serve! I recommend you arrived at the check in time so you can pick your site! We arrived at check in and had our pick of the sites! Brings us to the sites! They are huge! The site we were on was stone but very nice! Low dirt coming in your camper! Water/electric sites available! A few small cabins available! The state park has a lot to offer! There are trails that run right by the campsites! So good for a hike or a nice morning trail run! I chose to run in the morning and ran the trail right alone the Shennandoah River! Which runs through the park! You can fish the river, tube down the river or boat!!! There are beautiful overlooks in the states park! There is a great little nature center! The rangers were very nice and helpful! During your stay you purchase firewood right at the camp host! Very nice!! When you stay there you are close to some area attractions! Take a drive down to Luray Caverns! Get there early! About an hour drive! You are also close to the Shenandoah National park entrance! You do have to pay to get in the National park! (pass is good for 7 days) But well worth it! Kids can do activities and become junior rangers! Tons of ranger lead activities to offer! Or just drive down skyline drive and enjoy multiple overlooks! Take a hike on miles of trails, including the AT that runs right through the park!!! Pack your lunch if you like or stop at the snack bar! But be careful there are black bears! One ran out in front of our car! Obey the speed limit! Happy Camping!!!

Camping or day use!

Little buffalo has a lot to offer! The campsites are spacious. There are standard tent sites available and there are water/electric site available. There is a dump station available for the end. You can book your site on line and go straight to your site! no check in required. If you are passing through and there are sites you can sign in by the honor envelops! The bathrooms are clean. It is nice and dark at night! Little buffalo does offer a variety of activities. The down side is they are across the street. I recommend you drive across because the road is a high speed limit and might not be safe to cross. They offer nice trails to hike. There is a large lake for fishing! You can rent boats there! There is a pool! The pool is very nice! They offer a large area that is only 1 foot deep, great for little ones! There is also a splash pad! There are 2 slides for fun! No food allowed in the pool but you can bring picnic lunch for outside the pool. Tons of picnic tables! There is a snack bar! 2nd downfall, you have to pay to get in the pool, yes even if you are camping!!! 3rd downfall, I am pretty sure it's the most expensive state park in PA! Even with the downfalls it's still a great place to visit! Kids love it there! Happy Camping!

Half way point on the AT!

This is one of my favorite places to camp! The campsites are spacious! If you are on a site around the perimeter you can turn your chair and your back to the campground and look out into the forest! Many sites offer electric but no water at the site! You will meet tons of unique campers! From people using traditional tents, hammocks and some just sleeping under the stars! There is No shortage in trees here! You will have plenty of room to set up! Tons of shade. Paved roads for bike rides! Tons of wonderful trails to explore! Make sure you take a hike on the AT and then up to Pole Steeple for a great view! You may even bump into a through hiker excited to chat! Stop by the campstore for some Hershey's Ice cream!!! Make sure you pack in your food and all supplies or you will have a 20-30 minute drive back to a major store! There is a lake where you can swim or fish! You can also visit the Furnace and the AT Museum, make sure you hear the store about the first through hikers!!! Happy Camping!!

Wildlife galore!!!

West Virginia is a state for anyone who enjoys the outdoors!!!! There are tons of out door activities! We recently camped 3 nights at Canaan Valley! We had a great time! The campsite was full hookup & very inexpensive!!!! Plenty of trees providing shade! There is a little park for the kids, it could use a little TLC! But we didn't spend much time there. There is a huge field that the kids enjoyed kite flying! The staff at the store/check in are very friendly and helpful with area attractions! There is a ton of wildlife in this state park! Deer galore! Someone saw a black bear on the trail (we did not)! Beautiful birds with tons of color! You have access to the pool at the resort (near the hotel)! The bathrooms are less than desirable, but you're good if you have an RV! There are tons of attractions in WV, you may just have to drive. We went to Smoke Hole Caverns and Seneca Rocks for the day, only a 45 minute drive! Well worth it! We will return! Only took off one star b/c of the playground & bathroom! Happy camping!

Quiet and peaceful

We visited Greenwood Furnace 2 weeks ago! It is one of the most peaceful state parks we have been to in PA. The park is great for kids. Paved roads so they can ride their bikes. There is a nice park for the kids to play. The blacksmith shop was very educational! Great trails to hike! You can pick up a compass at the ranger station and complete a compass course! Beginner course available! Don't bring your electronics you won't need them here! No cell phone reception unless you drive a few miles down the road to a cute little store called Couch's! Great food if you don't feel like cooking on the fire one night, but who doesn't love food on the fire! Close enough to State College if you want to experience or tour! Your are also close to Penn's Cave. Cavern tour in PA in a boat! Right near the Rothrock Forest which also offers awesome trail runs! Happy camping!!
