Took a weekend trip with two friends and stayed at campsite #06. The sites are pretty close to each other so it's not like backcountry camping, but it's fun and friendly.
This campground is a popular spot in South Carolina. Campsites are pretty close together but it's usually peaceful - lakeside sites, good fishing, but be prepared for the mosquitos!
Jones Gap has a great trail leading up to some good views. The hike can be a little strenuous, but worth it. The sites are really spread out and most are near a stream.
This is a large campground with the sites really close together. Its got RVs, bathrooms, running water - a little more modern than I prefer, but it gets the job done if you're looking for a place to stay for a night or two. Its close to some good trails, including the trail to Frying Pan Mountain lookout tower.
This campground is usually packed with tourists coming to check out the parkway. It's a small campground, 9 sites total, the sites are relatively close together. Good views, only a 10-20 minute walk to the Mount Mitchell Summit.
