Great River Bluff State Park is located outside of Winona, MN. The trails at this park are very easy to hike with hardly any incline. The trail system is well mapped and easy to direct yourself through
I found the campsites to be very simple. Each site did have a picnic table and fire ring. The mosquitos were very bad when I visited. I suggest going in late fall when the weather is cooler.
This campsite is at the trailhead for the Root River Bike Trail. This bike trail is so awesome and by far the best in the tri-state area!
The nature center is tent camping only but they do have nice spots with picnic tables and grills. Even though I'm not a kid, I thought the park was AWESOME. They litterally have a tree house to play in!!!! The Nature Center also has a bike servicing station, showers, and bathrooms. Everything is extremely clean and the town of Houston is so sweet. I will visit again!
Cushon’s Peak is located right off of the Root River State Trail outside of Houston, MN with access to amazing biking, swimming, and tubing. The bike trail is the best trail in the tri-state area so be sure to check it out! The campground is nested along the Root River and has a nice little beach to visit.
The campground itself was very quiet. I enjoyed how peaceful this area was and how much space each site has. Everything was very clean! I enjoyed taking in the beauty of Southeastern Minnesota here!
Less than an hour drive from Minneapolis this is a good get away. As expected it has many walk trails. Highlight of this location is beach which is nice for swim and sun bath. But beach isn't motor vehicle accessible so expect 5-10 min walk. Campgrounds are nearby beach and require further walk.
Wildcat is near decent fishing in Brownsville and Reno. Didn't really like many of the campsites here (too many rvs/trailers/genarators and too cramped).
The boat landings at Wildcat are in prime locations and you really have great access to the river. I'd recommend just using the park for it's boat landing. Wildcat does have a small beach and a shelter near the river.
