Very well maintained campground! Lots of sites and fairly spaced out. Very unique area that sits up on a little hill surrounded by the river and canyon on all sides. Make sure to bring a tube to float around the bend!
This camp ground is a primitive, small campground in Dolly Sods. There are lots really nice trail heads in the area. It’s a pretty popular area to hike, so campground can become full quick. For a nice short hiking loop in the area, I suggest TR 560 and merge onto TR510. Pictures of trails are attached.
Bear Heaven is a really cool place. The camp ground isn’t that large, but if you can find a spot you will be sure to enjoy yourself. Right beside the camp ground is a really cool area to explore unique boulders and rock structures. You can either walk through or climb these boulders. The area has several great hiking and mountains biking trails. Just a few miles up the mountain you can go to Bickles Knob firetower and get one of the best views in the state.
This Campground is a great place to set up camp, have a picnic, or just spend the evening. There is a large maintained field in the middle of the campground that you can play frisbee, soccer, football, etc. A key amenity in this campground are the bathrooms. They are really nice and the cleanest I have seen in a campground. Another great thing about Horseshoe is the large pavilion with lots of picnic tables and a fireplace. Make sure to bring a swimming suit too because there is an awesome swimming hole in the nearby stream.
Spruce Knob Lake is one of my favorite places to visit in the area. It’s a great place to take a day trip to for fishing or site seeing. They have an awesome wooded hiking trail that goes around the entire lake approximately 1 mile long.
Laurel fork campground is a nice place to go if you are looking to get away from the busy life. It’s not a very large camp ground or heavily populated. Finding a spot shouldn’t be a problem. You are just a short drive from spruce knob lake and the sinks of gandy.
