Florida Trail Hiking Tips

The Florida Trail is one of eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States. It currently runs 1,000 miles, with 300 miles planned, from Big Cypress National Preserve to Fort Pickens at Gulf Islands National Seashore, Pensacola Beach. But unlike northern trails we have some very soggy months. This is a great place for tips on best places to explore, when is best time to plan trip, what you have to have in your pack for summer rains and map mistakes and route changes.

One of the most beautiful parts of the Florida Trail is in Central Florida within the Withlacoochie State Forest. There are a few very nice places to camp but Colonel Robbins Camp so far has few campers using this group & primitive site on the trail near Brooksville.

Doing the whole Florida trail is on my bucket list! Not many places is the ideal camping season in January

January in Florida will be amazing! There are some colder than expected nights make sure you watch when the fronts come through - can be 80 during the day and drop below 50 at night!
