Very well maintained.

Stayed for six days.

The people running the campground act like they are having fun. I very much enjoyed the stay. I was the only camper there on Monday but by the weekend it was packed; families with young children fishing.

Really nice, wooded campsites

Old campground, nicely maintained. Wooded; big pines. Two restroom/showerhouses; old, but clean. Camped for 2 nights in a camper van at site #24. It was a very large site surrounded on 3 sides by a thick forest of trees & shrubs. Private. Water faucet on site. No electric. The Lone Star Hiking Trail conveniently located in the campground. Nice hike through a thick forest. Canpground road & campsite driveways are paved. Sites have tent pads & appear pretty much level. Sites have a table, fire ring & lantern poll. The road toward the campground is paved, but broken up in places with several potholes. AT&T service is okay, but no T-Mobile service. This campground is great for tent campers, campervans, car campers & truck campers. I don't recommend this campground for large RVs.

Great fishing!

We stayed one night and it was beautiful at night. You can hear so much and night hiking was where it’s at! We caught a lot ,mostly catfish. It was a pretty clean area too. Not many people either with is always nice.

Very quiet here in the Sam Houston National Forest!

28 campsites! Not too close together either! They fixed the water spigots throughout the camp just recently. Bathrooms get cleaned daily, super clean during the week, but gets crowded on weekends. So bathrooms get kinda overused. The showers are hot! Many places have luke warm, but they turn up the heat here which is great. New host Robert is cool AF. Nice guy, doesn't bother anyone who isn't being a nuecince. Walker County has many fire bans, so check before you head out. First come first serve. No reservations. Gets overcrowded on weekends. Fishing, kayaking, the LSHT ( Lone Star Hiking Trail), all are great fun. Dogs are welcome , but forest workers come regularly, like 2xs a day drive by to check if people got them on leash. Alcohol permitted, but not publicly. Only on your site. Verizon service is great here! Sprint sucks. Att was marginally working. You may stay up to 14 days at a time here. I actually love it here, been back 5 times! $15 a night, if you have Americas Beautiful Pass, its half off! $7.50 a night folks! Pass is $80 annually online at National Forest. Just Google it.

Big sites, no RVs, quite neighbors!

Super roomy sites in the woods, quiet (no RVs, yay!), and easy access to the lake. Stayed two nights on a cross country drive. Did some kayak fishing and a 25 mile bike ride on the state forest / country roads - many trucks but generally courteous drivers who gave me the lane. Trees for hammocks at basically every site!

LOTS of birds (pine warblers, yellow-bellied sapsuckers especially) if you're into that.

Into the woods

Stubble field has always been a nice fall/early spring campground for my family of 3. The heavy thicket forest inhibits breeze so the area can become very muggy and humid in the summer as could be expected. The campground is very well developed with identifiable tent pads, but usually quiet and not too busy. There is a self pay drop box at the entrance so, be sure to bring cash or checks. There is no camp store or office to purchase firewood so you want to pack it in with you. Be sure to check burn ban for Walker County before visiting. It was a little cool on Nov. 15th when we stayed and couldn't build a campfire. I usually cook over the fire but, luckily I brought the camp stove this trip as well. The water spigot at the sites were not working and honestly they have never really worked on my visits here but, I carry water as well so no biggie. There are two bathroom facilities on site and they are usable. Overall great little getaway spot. Just come prepared and oh yeah, bring bug spray.

Mossy views and lots of wildlife!

My friend and I camped here last fall, a last minute switch since we got rained out of other plans. We still got some rain in San Houston park, but it was tolerable. The sad hit was the firewood all around the area got damp, so we had fire trouble. Also, the park headquarters does not sell firewood or ice, so we had to hunt around for a gas station that did. The main trail is the Lone Star, which is neat, but you have to yoyo hike if you aren’t backpacking. The bridge to more views near our campground was out—looked like it was under construction. Might be done now! You’ve got to remember to bring cash to use around town and to put in the slot for camp payment. They don’t like credit cards around here.

The landscape of this area is not varied or incredibly interesting, but the tall mossy trees added some swampy grandeur, and we saw quite a lot of wildlife including a large hawk (at the campground) and a coral snake on our hike!

Listen for the ducks

I’ve been camping, fishing, and hunting at this place. My favorite is camping. But make sure to pack mosquito repellant! It isnt too crowded, so it is a quiet area. The free spot is before the bridge; pay for the ones after crossing the bridge.

Peaceful and remote

Wonderful camp grounds nestled in Sam Houston National Forest. Old school drop box style. First come, first serve. Make sure you have cash. Water access throughout the sites, each camp site has table, fire ring with a cooking grate and tent pad. Clean bathrooms with jot showers on timers. Access to an inlet of Lake Conroe. Hiking trails. Not much breeze due to the thick forest, so perfect for fall and spring camping.

Camping Stubblefield

There are 29 campsites which include a tent pad, picnic table, and a trash pole. Water is available throighout the camp ground. The campground has two public bath houses with hot showers. It is well maintained by volunteer hosts working with the Sam Houston National Forest. The Lone Star Hiking Trail connects at the south side of the park. The east side of the park borders Stubblefield Lake. The adjacent Sam Houston National Foredt offers hunting, Trails for ATV, horse back. and motorcyle use. There no RV hook ups. Spaces will accomodate RV up tp 20 Ft in length, but they must be self contained. No reservations are allowed; first come only.

A good rest stop

I stopped here when hiking the Lone Star Trail.

The camp sites at Stubblefield were rather nice. Each had a table, fire ring, hook for hanging things, and water taps were found every few sites or so.

There are two bathrooms that were well taken care of and the park hosts were very friendly and well informed.

Camping there cost $15 per site per day and you cannot reserve ahead.

There is a lake, but when I was there it was rather brown.

There is also a pavilion for group activities

Great sites, great access to Lake Conroe

These are some great tent/trailer (small RV) only sites with no hookups (both deterring the giant RVs). You have nice open sites with pads under the tree cover with your standard table and fire ring but you then also have access to potable drinking water and flush restrooms and actually some showers. Easy access to the lake and lots of trails.
