I saw the light!

This is a great place to stay if you are exploring Acadia National Park, especially late in the season as I was because a lot of the other campgrounds are closed by mid-October. This friendly site is just a stones throw from the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse right off Highway 102A. Nice campsites even though they are a little close together, but what campsites aren't? Lots of options here from big rigs to tents to cabins. Nice play area for the kids, a laundry, recreation room and large, clean facilities. There are campsites on both sides of the highway.

It’s farther from Bar Harbor but that’s ok. You get a difference experience away from the busy part of the Park.

Last-minute Reservation

I planned a trip to Acadia National Park only a few weeks out and this was one of the few campgrounds left with available tent sites. Being able to see the lighthouse on the way out was definitely a plus, and the worker in the office was friendly. Bathrooms and showers were clean enough. However, like other reviewers said- the wood provided there does not burn, everything worth seeing is a half-hour drive away, and campsites are basically right on top of each other. There were not even any trees separating the sites next to us, but thankfully no one showed up there. Apparently there is also no one to patrol the grounds at night so bring earplugs or music. We had some neighbors that were extremely loud until 1AM, well past quiet hours that were supposedly “strictly enforced”. I emailed Bass Harbor Campground and was told I should have notified them, but who was I supposed to tell when the office was already closed? Kind of disappointing that we could not sleep and our complaint was dismissed. This place will do but maybe find a place a few months out and go there instead if you can.

A good place to stay, just hope you don't have neighbors

I stayed here with a group of five. We enjoyed our time. However, the map of the sites makes each site look much larger than it actually is. If you have a neighbor they will be almost right on top of you. That being said the bathrooms are clean and well stocked most of the time, there is an on site laundromat with reasonable prices and the location is very quiet.

OMG

Not quite what I expected. Nice place to sleep to visit Bar Harbor. They mixed up my reservation. After getting there they claimed I had “no reservation”. I showed them my confirmation. They had no clue. Said they had one site available and if I planned to stay the second night I would have to move. I had no choice.

Ok campsite depending on what you want

*I'm not a large campsite type of person* I stayed on the tent only side of the campground at #27. There was only 3-4 other groups around, which made the stay better than what it could have been. The sites are all right next to each other and very open so if there is someone next to you there's 0 privacy. It was a good basepoint though during mid-September to then explore Acadia NP. Bathhouse was fine, and there's a dishwash station right outside of the bathhouse. Check-in was easy but bought 4 packs of firewood from them and none of it burned! Not sure if it was a fluke tree or what. Overall, if you want privacy do not stay here unless its off season. We did get to see amazing stars at this site though- could see the Milkyway.

Wonderful from start to finish

We had such a wonderful experience at this campground from start to finish that I feel inclined to support it. Check-in was quick and we were given a map to our site and information about the campground. The tent site comes with a picnic table, fire pit, and parking spot. There are numerous water stations throughout the campground for filling up and a big sink for washing dishes by the bathroom. The best part was the hot showers. It was so nice after a full day of hiking and biking to wash off in a warm shower. The proximity to Ship Harbor and the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse was great for catching sunrises and sunsets.

Quiet but a little rough

Bass Harbour Campground is on the “quiet” side of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It is only a 10-15 minute walk to the Bass Harbour Lighthouse which is still a US Coast Guard facility.

When we were there this summer, the campsites were not mowed and weeds waist high surrounded our sit and there was a small swamp behind us. Thank goodness the Thermocells worked well.

The site does have a heated pool and decent showers and toilet facilities. There are sections for RV’s as well as tents, pop ups and trailers.

There is an island shuttle that comes and stops at the campground to take you to different places on the island including the National Park.

Southwest Harbour is the closest “town” and is quaint with some shopping, gas, food, etc.

Since it is on the quiet side of the island, nothing is close so prepare to drive 25-30 min to get anywhere.

However the park and island is absolutely beautiful. The rugged coastline is something to behold. Lots of trails to hike, along with the carriage trails which are kept immaculate.

Honeymoon Campground

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon to Acadia National Park! We stayed in a small cabin and it was perfect for our stay. Weather was a bit cold when we were there (October 2018), but there was a space heater. Had space to prepare food as well as a microwave, fire pit, and grill for use. The showers and bathroom were well maintained and close to the cabins. Walking distance to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse and other National Park hiking trails. We loved it and look forward returning for another trip!

Great Spot!

First of all, fires and dogs are both totally fine! We go every year. It’s a short walk to the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, on the quiet side of the island, and has clean accommodations. There’s nowhere on the island we’d tather go!

It was fine

This campground served its purpose for a place to lay our heads at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful.The bathhouse was pretty clean. I was happy to meet the local dogs.

Downside: Very small campsites very close to each other. Absolutely no seclusion or privacy whatsoever. As this is generally my #1 feature in a campground, it was disappointing.

Quiet and Private

We stayed here the first night ever camping in Acadia. Tent campers have a much prettier space than RV, as with most campgrounds, and they have a lot across the main road which is perfect for tent camping. if you have multiple sites for large gatherings you could honestly take over an entire section and it looks like a community area. we really liked it here. it has a pool, which my daughter loved but I much preferred going down the road to the lake to swim. it’s walking distance to the Bass Harbor Head Light, and that is just beautiful. rarely is there ample parking at the light, so walking from your site has its advantages. The owners were very accommodating and the free acadia shuttle does pick you up from there!
