About

National Forest

We now have 2 ADA accessible sites and 5 water spigots. The Williamson River Campground is conveniently located just off Highway 97 about five minutes north of Chiloquin, Oregon. There are 19 campsites with picnic tables, fire grates, three vault toilets, and two hand pumps round out the amenities at this campground. One campsite is ADA accessible. Ponderosa pines and sagebrush populate the landscape and contrast with the crystal clear Williamson River. Due to its close proximity to the highway, this is a popular campground. You can mountain bike on miles of Forest Service roads, go fishing, or explore day hikes opportunities. Situated next to the popular Collier State Park, there is a 1.3 mile walking trail that connects the two campgrounds. Discover the Collier State Park Logging Museum which showcases historic logging equipment from the late 1800’s, as well as a relocated pioneer village.

Williamson River Campground is located 10 minutes north of Chiloquin, Oregon. From Chiloquin, OR take U.S. Highway 97 north towards Chemult, OR, for approximately four miles and then turn right onto Forest Service (FS) Road 9730 and right again on FS Road 97130140. The campground will be at the end of the road.

Hidden Gem

Off of Hwy 97 past Collier State. The gravel road is about a mile in and we had no trouble with our 24 ft Argosy. We arrived on a Tuesday and had our pick of spots. Some pull through and some back in available. Quiet at night, clean bathroom, garbage facilities and can recycling. $5 with my husband’s senior’s discount. We would stay again. Collier State has better amenities but a fire in 2020 went through there and missed the Williamson River site.

Quite spot but not out of the way

Arrived mid day on a Saturday and no issue finding a spot. The bathrooms were the cleanest I’ve experienced at a site like this, I was impressed. Water is scattered through out, no electricity. T-mobile was scattered not really reliable but available. Never met host but they were present. There is a .2-3 mile walk to small water front, very picturesque. Note it was hot during the day and very cold at night in late August. Also a trail to state park from here. Overall enjoyed my stay.

good place to stay while driving through

nice campground!! super clean, friendly campers, tons of spots available when i rolled up at around 3 pm on a monday. trail within the campground to the river was nice. trees were tall and healthy:) water spouts!!!! clean bathrooms!!

Peaceful campsite

The camp host was the sweetest! Fires are allowed and you can gather wood per the camp host. I had spot 19 which was great. Spaces are spread out and not on top of each other! I would for sure come back again!! Great spot!

Wonderful campground near a beautiful River

Collier State Park was closed because of the fire so we drove the extra mile or two to this campground. We had camped here before quite a few years ago and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice upgrades that the Forest Service had done--many water spigots, large and clean vault toilets, and roomy campsites. The sites have been moved away from the river. The old campsites are now day use picnic areas.

The riparian area along the Williamson River is lush with tons of singing birds.

The only real drawback to the campground is that vehicles can be heard coming down the hill from the north on Highway 97.

Near the River, out of the burn

To get to this campground you drive through a long burn section, but don’t worry! No burn at the campground or along the river (which is more like a shallow stream). Spaces are large and bathrooms are kept really clean!

Great campground right outside crater lake

Great campground that offers trash cans, water and bathroom. There is a nice trail on the site that brings you to the state park (1.3 miles). Only $10 a night!!! About 40 minutes from crater lake. There’s a very nice camp host. No fire wood for sale but, lots to go and grab. Huge sites and great trees to provide shade! 20 sites and all pretty far apart. Would come back for sure.

Nice quiet overnight stop

This was a quiet campground w no fee, a good stopover on our way north. Sites were spread well apart and the vault toilets were clean. Water was not yet turned on. The campground host said May 1 he hoped there’d be water. There was a recent fire and we had to drive through a burned section of forest to get there, making us wonder if we’d be camping in the burn but this campground was spared. There is a short hike by the river from this campground over to Collier, which was closed due to the fire.

Pretty spot

Overnighted as we headed north. Quiet campground, campsites are well dispersed. Bathrooms were as clean as can be expected for pit toilets. No cost for the night

Nice little campground off of 97

We stayed here one night on our way north on 97. Campground is in a quiet forest setting although a little highway noise can be heard from a distance. Still a little snow on the ground in early April. Sites were large and surrounded by lodge pole pines. Vault toilets were super-cleaned and well stocked. Good AT&T cell reception.

spacious clean campground

nice well kept campground. This campground is a couple miles of dirt road off of hwy 97. The camp host was very helpful and nice. He explained to us where good spots to put our kayaks in. I saw two water spouts and there are bathrooms. The campgrounds are dispersed and it was not crowded when I was there. A little hot and dusty but that’s camping at times.

A Tale of Two Campsites: Cheaper Forest Campground Near Crater Lake

Just off Highway 97, about 30 miles from the entrance to Crater Lake National Park, you'll come to a wooden sign pointing to two campgrounds. To the right is Collier Memorial State Park, and if you want flush toilets, showers and/or RV hook-ups, that's where you should head. But if you want to pay just $10 and travel 1.5 miles on a gravel road for much larger sites with less facilities, turn left to Williamson River Campground for a great deal.

On Forest Service land, Williamson River has 20 spots well-spaced-out, including at least two pull-throughs. There's a camp host right in the front, a self-service kiosk, and we were able to pull up and grab a spot with no notice in July for a 32-foot RV. There's several water spickets throughout, two pit-toilets that weren't too gross, a day-use area, a short trail down the the Williamson River and a 1.3-mile trail that hooks up with Collier Campground. I'm not sure if there's a per-person or car limit per site, but several of the spaces had 2-3 trailers and several families, so could be a really great deal at $10 plus $4 per extra vehicle for what's essentially a "group" site.

Pros:

Beautiful country
Large spaces
Just $10

Cons:

Mosquitoes!!!! They were everywhere, especially at dusk.
No flush toilets or showers.

Tips:

If you need an RV dump site, head over to Collier, where there's a dump site and water hook-up for free/donation.
The logging museum back on highway 97 is worth a visit.

Beautiful, Cheap, and Near Crater Lake

Beautiful Ponderosa pine setting. Very nice uncrowded site with access to the more famous Collier State park nearby via hike or drive. Super cheap National Forest service land ($10 per night). Pit toilets, fire pits, picnic tables. Wonderful alternative to the Collier State Park next door.

Great location as it's near the doorstep to Crater Lake National Park. Also not very far away from Klamath Falls.

No One here! Beautiful.

So perfect. We stayed here one night, Very basic campground but wonderful. We were the only ones there and we heard some animals close by through out our fire and the night. We did a short hike following the river which was great.

There aren't very many sites here, maybe 15-20. The was a bathroom with a couple water pumps. We used one to fill up but the water was very dirty. On our hike we saw some incredible purple flowers. There hiking, fishing, and possibly climbing here although i couldn't find any info. The rock along the river looked very climbable although i didn't see any bolts. Right up the road from here we found an animal grave yard which was very disturbing. We really don't know why there were thousands of bones, scull and all kinds of scattered parts. Still trying to figure that out. Enjoy this site its beautiful.
