A Loop is where it’s at!

We stay at Tugman often because it’s a great Oregon State Campground and is conveniently located off Hwy 101 and close to a lot of outdoor activities the southern coast of Oregon has to offer.

The park is clean, the rangers are super friendly as are the camp hosts in this loop. This park particularly seems to draw a great crowd of campers; very diversified - every type of camping here from Coaches and trailers to Yurt renters and tent enthusiast.

This trip we stayed in site A36. Long back in site and we had problem backing our 32’ trailer into. The site is pretty level and has good coverage / privacy from the campground road and the two sites that boarder it. There’s a decent size area in the back of the site that could fit several tents (maybe a medium and small tent?). The only con it’s situated closer to Hwy 101 and there is significant road noise during peak travel times. Overall - we’d stay on this site again.

Yurts!

This was a great campground nestled in the trees off the coast and nearby some towns for amenities. We stayed two nights in a yurt and used this as a base camp for some day hikes and town exploring. Beautiful. Cleanish bathrooms. Lots of mosquitos. Very damp. Lots of trees. Deer in the park. Lots of trails around the lake too.

Do yourself a favor and check out the Harbor Light restaurant two towns North and get their clam chowder and elk shepherds pie. To die for.

Nice spots in the late fall!

I couldn’t reserve but I could WalkIn according to the reservations site. The camp Host was very helpful. I got almost an entire leg of a loop all to myself. $26 includes water and electric. I’m sleeping in my car so I don’t need much. I can hear the road but it’s not annoying . Will quiet down later, I’m sure . I would stay again.

Great Stay

Plenty to do in the way of boating (kayaking), fishing and camping. The beach is close and the seaside towns are just a hope, skip and jump away.

The campground is well shaded and roomy for a state park. Privacy is pretty good as state parks go as well.

Showers and bathrooms were dated but kept clean. No complaints.

I had Verizon and had fair signal. (I was using my WeBoost, but probably could have gone without it.)

A note on Oregon State Parks and Veterans. All the other states could take lessons from Oregon. Their Special Access Pass is second to none. They will allow you to apply even if you are not an Oregon State resident. They only care that you served your country. THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.)

Sweet Spot in the Woods!

This is a classic Oregon Coast campground! Well spaced sites with lots of vegetation screens! Most of the spaces are for smaller rvs or tents. There are some for larger rigs. A popular place all summer. Nice play area in day use area. Boat launch and beach in day use area.

Busy Family Campground

The campground sits on a very well maintained property, but the sites are so close together that it felt more like a tailgate party than it did camping. There was a tent not more than 3 feet from our parking space. It seems to be a very popular place for family reunions, but this is not the place for a quiet retreat.

Great place!

Well maintained grounds! The sites are pretty close together and don’t have a ton of privacy, but if you set your tent up right and angle your car you can get some decent coverage. The lake is super accessible, just a short walk from camp. Dog friendly (but please keep them leashed). Lake was gorgeous and clean! Occasional highway and off-roading noise, but easy enough to tune out. Had to drive ~20mins to look for a hike, but it’s possible I just didn’t know of a closer trail ;)

Well maintained. Great for any kind of camper.

We stayed on site A33. This site was easy to back into and it was plenty big enough for our 32’ foot trailer and truck. This site sits close yo Hwy 101, so you will get some road noise, but it wasn’t so loud that it out a damper on our camping experience. Site A33 is mostly private and does have ample room in the rear of the site for about 2 small tents or 1 medium / large tent.

The camp hosts and StTe park employees were very approachable and friendly.

Tugman is well suited for all varieties of campers to from singles, couples and families and can accommodate tents, trailers, 5th wheels, vans and has yurts available for rental.

The adjacent park has plenty of green space, a boat launch, a playground, picnic tables and restroom ( very family friendly).

The campground is very close to several activities to include boating, fishing, paddling boarding, kayaking, hiking and recreational riding on the dunes. It’s also close to Lakeside, Reedsport and Coos Bay that if you forget supplies or looking for alternate to cooking camp style - you have options to get or find what you need.

Really convenient to shopping yet feels away from everything

I'm in a 35' 5th wheel and stayed in a few different sites while at this campground. The campsites closest to the highway had a tiny bit of road noise but nothing I found disturbing at all and nothing I even heard once I was inside my trailer. I think my stay in site B15 was my absolute favorite here and definitely among my list of favorites of all the places I've stayed; it had a great deal of privacy with a lot of distance and foliage between the campsites and a super convenient little private path to the restrooms and showers. I also got flat tires while camped here and the Les Schwab in Reedsport came out, after hours on a Saturday!, to replace them for me since I had to move my trailer the next day. When I arrived, I was a little concerned that there were obviously something like 6 hosts/host-couples on-site but no one in the check-in office when you pull in, nor was anyone there any of the times I drove by, so no one double checking reservations, giving out maps or anything, but, as a single female traveling alone, I felt really safe in this campground. There were lots of families around me and I found there to be just really, really nice people in this area in general. I don't know how many people had showered before me and the one I used wasn't draining very well but it was fairly clean and had adjustable temperature and a regular pull-on knob/handle, not a push-button to turn the water on for a timed-period, which has not always been my experience in campground showers, and the water stayed nice and hot with enough pressure to rinse out my hair (also not always my experience in campground showers)! All-in-all, I would definitely recommend this campground and look forward to returning some time!

Cozy Campground

Great campground close to Oregon Dunes with trails and close to Eel Lake. All of the camp hosts were so hospitable! Firewood bundles only $5 (cheapest I’ve seen in a long time) Clean restrooms and showers. The spots are small but the trees and vegetation give you lots of privacy.

Beautiful campground and walks

Another Oregon state park wins again. Campsites feel tucked away in the forest. It was beautiful even when it was raining. Hardly anyone here in early March. Also close enough to the Lighthouse you could visit 2 parks in one day.

Cute little campground with great lake and trails!

We stayed in site B33 for a few nights in July 2020. The sites are kind of small for tent camping, and a few are a little too open for my taste, but our site had some lovely privacy hedges around it. The bathrooms were cleaned very frequently, which I found comforting given there's a pandemic. The beach and trails around the lake were nice and there's also another cute lake with a 1 mile loop trail nearby (Lake Marie). The only drawback is that it is near enough to the highway that you can hear trucks and sometimes ATVs going by at night. We will definitely come back this way again soon!

Pretty good if you don’t mind crowds

We snagged a no-show site here on the 4th of July. The grounds are well kept and the bathrooms/showers are really nice. There is a pretty lake trail and lots of recreation in the area. We had a nice night for the most part but it definitely wasn’t our style. Too many people, sites too close, lots of noise, lots of rvs and atvs. To be fair, it was a holiday weekend but I don’t think we’d like it much more if it wasn’t. If you have kids or an rv, it would be great. If you’re an adult and like to have some quiet time, not your spot.

This campground is amazing. Clean, well maintained, park staff helpful.

Tugman is a great park for families. The campsites are big and the bathrooms and showers are always clean. They have reader boards that show activity’s that are going on. There is a lake on grounds that is a short walk or bike ride. They have a huge field and playground also hiking trails.

Oregon State Park Awesomeness

We flew into Oregon and drove down the coast from Portland. Tugman is more towards the southern end of the Oregon Coast but in and around the Oregon Dunes area. Very nice facilities and we stayed in a yurt there. It was a nice mix of tent and rv camping. Nice and shady spots. The yurts were awesome:)

pro tip—we made our reservations way in advance. I would highly recommend that if you know you’re going to book as soon as possible, 6 months out if possible. We got the last yurt available for the time period we were out there.

In the woods by the lake

Notice the asphalt spaces were not very level. Most RV/Campers had to use blocks to level out. Very woods sites and all spaces shaded. This site is close to the Eel Lake for boating, and across the highway101 is access to the dunes. But this State park is not gear up for ATV riders. A must to RSVP for the summer. Can get cel service and mobile data service. Park Host clean up sites quickly. On the East side of HwY 101. About 6 miles North to Winchester Bay, and a few more miles to the beach. Pay day use parking of $4 to Douglas County for beach access.

Have 16 yurts, 8 yurts pet friendly.

Have a hiker/biker camp

Shower and restrooms, very clean (no spider webs)

RV dump site, ask for a $3 donation.

Great spot

The rv sites are so well protected from the wind. Lake is usually pretty warm during the summer. Great sites and amenities.

Tugman / Chainsaw Festival

We have been to Tugman a few times, but this most recent trip was Father's Day weekend. Several local activities, but we went for the Chainsaw Festival.

Tugman is a nice, clean, and quiet campground. Park staff was actually being very proactive in making sure park rules were followed, and helpful if we had any questions. They even came by in the morning offering to collect our garbage, and dispose of it for us. Bathrooms and Showers were all clean and water was hot.

We will plan another trip soon.

Great place for kids and dogs

If you're quick enough on the draw, you can rent a yurt from most Oregon state campgrounds. These sell out fast though so if you want a bit of glamping, plan it out in advance. The dog we were watching loved it and I think the yurt was best for him since he'd have been scared of the tent. Only a couple of the yurts are designated pet friendly. A short walk leads to a kids play area and the beach isn't too far away.

Good location!

William M. Tugman State Park

Stayed in space B5, which was a good spot. C loop looked nice as well. Campgrounds were nice, showers were well maintained. Lots of loops for Sam to ride her bike, trails around Eel Lake to hike (beautiful!), kayak and paddleboard rentals (didn't get a chance to do that), a dock to fish off (lots of fish to catch there), and a nice kids' playground. It's also, of course, close to Winchester bay, where we rented a RAZR, which Sam totally loved (so much she wants top go again for her birthday), and we put a crab trap out on the pier (accidentally threw out the only keeper crab -oops!). We also went to the Art Faire and bought food goodies there. Back at camp, we had some incredibly noisy neighbors, but I'd still rate it a 9!

July 20-24

We had a great stay and time. Camp site and Yurts were clean with nice privacy between sites. The park rangers and camp hosts were all friendly. Restrooms were clean but dated. Eel lake was a lot of fun!! Good fishing from the dock as well as from our kayaks and SUP boards. Overall it was a great place to stay and can not wait to go back soon.
