Nimisila Stay

We had a great experience. The kids loved biking, the campground was very peaceful and everyone was friendly. We had an electric site so that was nice.
We have a travel trailer and it was difficult to back in because the road is narrow. Also - as mentioned there is no water here so plan on dry camping.

We stayed here and visited Cuyahoga National Park - only about a 30 minute drive so it was a perfect spot.

Good Campsite

Nicely maintained campground, and a pretty location. Close to grocery stores and convenience places. No showers. Lots of bugs because your by the water. Campsites are kind of close. Overall good campground.

Great for locals with kids: Close, Easy, typically Quiet

If you camp anywhere’s along the East? bog in the summer- BRING EARPLUGS or the bullfrogs will NOT let you sleep😰 they are so loud & right by the sites, the mosquitoes are slightly worse there as well. I love that if you pick the right spots- you can keep an eye on the kids at the playground & riding bikes to/from the dock straight down the park road🙌🏼

Look for spots with lots of fallen pine needles- they are several inches thick and make nice padding under tent!

Get on marketplace before you come- it’s usually easy to find free wood [in the county] that can be used. This is a Green/forested area & ppl always have logs to be rid of!

Beautiful campground

Stayed during the winter so it was only me and another camper but it sure was pretty! There’s 6 electrical sites and the rest are non- electric. There’s no water on-site but has trash and 2 clean vault toilets. Beautiful views of a pond and a playground for the kids. Sort of close to other sites but no one behind you so at least you have some space! Definitely plan to come back in the summer. Only 30 minutes to the national park.

Great minimal campground

We have stayed at this campground numerous times and love it. Even though the campground is very small, the sites are relatively private, and disappearing into the woods so close to home is very refreshing. No water on site, toilets are latrines, but there is a dumpsite which is well maintained. Kayaking in the reservoir is great, but the winds can be ROUGH. Also, please be sure you have your safety gear. Little playground, tucked away basketball courts, splashing in the lake are all good fun for the kids. Both tent and RV sites are available but since covid the electric sites are somewhat hard to get.

Beautiful park, large level sites

Great spot close to Akron and the Cuyahoga Valley NP. You can fish and kayak the reservoir. No full hookup but, there is a dump station. Nice playground. Used to be a state park, now run by Summit County metro parks.

Zero would be better!

So my daughter and I love camping and converted our minivan to a camping van just so we can hop in and go at a whim! Let me start by saying, the 3 times we stayed, there were LOUD parties each and every time! There are no rules, apparently, and the locals know it is their backyard party place. Even if you are lucky enough to have the rangers number they simply tell you that the loud music and conversation and multiple cars coming and going with unregistered guests are "within their rights". You as a peaceful, nature loving, getting away from it all, communing with the Earth camper have no right to an enjoyable stay! It is sad that this is where we are at as a society. NO KOA or camp ground that respects itself as a business would tolerate loud obnoxious behavior that infringes on everyone's experience. We now stay away from Metro Park sites and research state run sites as well since there is no one at the site to guide/guard those who only wish to party!

As for the site:

There are NO amenities. Port-a-potties are filled with bugs and smell horrible!! NO water. Cars drive thru very fast as there is no posted speed, no one present to enforce it anyway, and multiple parties with guests coming and going at all hours. Very small as a campsite. For a few bucks more you can upgrade and stay elsewhere and get so much more for your money! There is a small play ground for kids but right at a corner where cars drive thru. The play ground is probably only good for ages 4-8 as there isn't much for older kids and not safe for toddlers.

The area is beautiful so it is a shame that it is not run better and upgraded.

It really is a party place for the locals…..too bad!!

Peaceful… not much for kids

First.. NO WATER!!! Other than a small play area for kids, nothing for them to do. No swimming and fishing from shore is just iffy. Great kayak/SUP lake. No gas motors. Pit toilets, 6 electric sites, dump station free for registered campers, $10 for ALL others. Be warned, cameras are in use. Beautiful clean quiet forest area. Sites are large and open. No generators allowed. Just a beautiful scenic area close to home. All sites by reservation only. Pets on leash at all times. Patrolled by local Sheriff’s office and Park Rangers.

Great for a weekend get away

It's not a big campground and the electric sites must be reserved way in advance because I've never been able to get one. I like it because most of it is under the trees and it's stays cooler. If you fish, canoe, or kayak, it's great spot to put in the water.

Nothing Special

Driving down from MI to meet some friends from PA for a weekend of hiking in Cuyahoga Valley. There were a few suggested campgrounds online and with the only open spots we ended up at Nimisila.

Nothing to write home about. Decent fire pits and space. Picnic tables were chained down so we couldn’t move them closer to the fire for seating. Also there was no water spigot or well which wasn’t cool.

The reservoir itself was nice to look at but fairly weedy at the launch area. People were kayaking for sure.

This campsite was also a good 25-30 minutes from the park. We knew this going in but, if I return to this area, I would for sure look somewhere else.

Also technically a dry campground.

NO WATER

Please do not make the mistake I did. There is no running water here. No showers, nothing to wash with or drink. You must bring in your water and bath when you get home.

Close to a lot; Close to each other ;-)

Nimisila Reservoir is a pretty solid, but small park easily accessible by Akron, Canton, and Green. Several sites have electric (they are actually the most spacious ones), and most sites are fairly spacious.

The sights on the outer rim of the loop (often, the even numbered sites) tend to be the better sites. The latter number sites - sites 28, 26, 24, 22, are nestled inside tall Lodge Pole Pines. You are sure to find a great canopy in the evening, and pine needles throughout your site.

It’s always a challenge separating “the experience,“ from the campground itself. In my case, my neighbors stayed up late listening to the same 12-track CD on repeat ;-) Common courtesy is an issue at all campgrounds, but I hate to say this soured the experience for me.

Nimisilin seems perfectly poised for those eager to launch kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and boats with small motors. I saw several people fishing, and at least a dozen people out on the water. Seems like a great opportunity for those who are able!

Quick tip: If you’re able, rent a kayak. The shallow water, lengthy shoreline, and scenic views make for a great paddle.

Serene and peaceful

My first time at this campground that used to be a state park and now the metro park has taken it over. It’s small with only 29 sites and 6 of those have electric. We stayed in site 22 with electric. We were surrounded by pine trees along the banks of a 800-acre reservoir. Lots of birdwatching and relaxing. There are no showers or water. They had vault/pit toilets that were very clean. If you have kids there is a playground as well. If we are in that area I’d definitely go back.
