About

State Park

New Germany State Park Campground, nestled in the scenic mountains near Grantsville, MD, is a gem for those looking to escape into nature. This place has it all: towering ancient hemlocks, a serene lake, and historic buildings that give it a unique charm. The campground operates year-round, so whether you're into summer hikes or winter snowshoeing, there's always something to do.

The campsites are well-spaced, offering a decent amount of privacy. You can choose from tent sites, RV spots, or even cozy cabins. The cabins, in particular, get a lot of love from visitors for their historic appeal. The park is pet-friendly, but note that pets are only allowed in the Hemlock loop, which is more suited for tent camping.

Amenities here are top-notch. Clean restrooms and hot showers are a big plus, and there's even a sanitary dump station for RVs. If you need supplies, there's a small market on-site. For those who enjoy a good campfire, firewood is available, and yes, you can enjoy a drink as alcohol is allowed.

The lake is a highlight, perfect for swimming, paddling, and fishing. Trails are meticulously maintained, making them ideal for hiking, running, or biking. In winter, the park transforms into a wonderland with opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, with rentals available on-site.

One thing to keep in mind: there's no cell service here. So, if you're looking to disconnect and truly immerse yourself in nature, this is the spot. Plus, there's a pay phone if you need to make a call.
