Local Getaway

My 6 year old daughter and I stayed for two nights. It was her first Daddy/Daughter camp trip and she had a great time.

Reservations/Check In/Check Out:

All were flawless.

-Staff was friendly and efficient.

Cost typical for State Park.

Camp Site:

We tent camped fyi.
Beautiful shaded site overlooking the lake.
A fair amount of litter was on the site from previous campers. We cleaned every piece we could find though.
Power and water on site.
We were at site 116. For the life of me, I couldn’t find a very level spot for the tent, but we made do.
Grill leaned awkwardly to one side.
Fire area not well defined.
Traffic and Train noise took a bit getting used to.
Issues aside, I would still return for a repeat trip.

Amenities:

Bathrooms weren’t very clean.
Store was surprisingly reasonable $ for most essentials.
Bike trail was fun.
My daughter enjoyed the playground.

Overall:

A nice park close to many attractions.
A good place to get away without really getting away (if that makes sense).
The good outweighs the bad.

Great base camp to explore American history

The park is surprisingly wooded with pretty good spacing between the sites. The park was a great mix of nature in middle of civilization. We enjoyed our outings to Jamestown and the American Revolution Museum.

We enjoyed our stay but please note:

bring many leveling blocks
there is a lot of road noise at the sites along the water; the noise is less of a problem towards the center of campground
the fire pits are not build up so you can grill unless you have self supporting/standing grill to place over the fire.

We enjoyed our stay.

Careless

When I asked at reservation they said it is full hookup but no indivial sewer here.

This site does not care about package.

Amazon showed my package was delivered at 6:18pm but office said no package around 6:40pm. Next morning i called but said no package within a few seconds. I thought they even did not look up. I went down to office and they found it.

In between I called hq office around 10am April 28 2023. Asked whether my package was there and she said instantly no package. Asked her name, she gave me my last name initial which fun of me. Asked again but refused give her name.

Anyway office said this site does not accept campers' package. I didn't know until I arrive here.

Neighborhood Campground

This is our neighborhood campground that we love to visit from time to time to get out of the suburbs and just enjoy nature. We always seem to come when it rains but we don’t mind at all.

Excellent Views and Customer Service

We made last minute reservations and arrived after the office was closed. Upon arrival the park ranger opened the office and checked us in. The facilities are well maintained and the sites along the reservoir are very nice. Make sure you have leveling chalks as some of the sites are to uneven for auto leveling to work. We had a 32’ class c rig and had no problems other than the auto leveling not working which caused us to move sites 3 times and our water hose was to short. You need at least a 25’ hose.

Inexpensive camping near Colonial Williamsburg

Camping here over Thanksgiving in site B55. A bit of a long walk to the bathroom, as we need to walk around the entire loop to get to it. Gorgeous, spacious sites with electric and water at each site. Some sites back up to the St. James River. Some road noise at night and an occasional train, but not enough to disturb our sleep. Hot, clean showers in the bathhouses and excellent location near Jamestown Settlement, Williamsburg, and Yorktown.

Wonderful place, great spots

We love it here. Their park is beautiful. The parking pass are well maintained and there’s water and electric at every spot in the loop we were on.

Beautiful park and campground

Lots of tree canopy in this campground/park along a pretty lake. Nice bike and walking trails, and an archery range. Plus a really nice laundry on site. Con: the showers are gross
