Established and beautiful

The campground is pretty established. There are bunch of clean vault toilets and most of the sites have grill/bench and fire pit.

Twin Peaks Twin Beauty

FCFS (site must be occupied the first nights

35 sites Located at 9,600 and has amazing views on the climb up the mountain. There are trails nearby, both the Continental Divide and Mount Elbert. Be aware of the height for you might have to deal with altitude sickness.

Check in 2 pm and check out 12 noon Quiet time 10 pm- 6 am

Fee: $23.00 nightly fee with a self service fee tube

Open: Late May or early June- end of Sept

Picnic table, fire ring/grill, water, pit toilets The views are so awesome of the mountains that surround the campground. There are trails in the area. There is a great deal of separation between sites and the trees help mask your neighbor.

Directions: From Leadville, go 15 miles south on US 24, then west on CO 82 past Twin Lakes Reservoir and Twin Lakes Village

Pretty Close To Perfect

I've been to this campground twice during the 2021 season. The first visit was in early June and the latter visit was late September. This has got to be one of my new favorite places to camp. I definitely plan on revisiting. The campsites are fairly large with decent privacy and the views are absolutely stunning! During my springtime visit, I stayed in site #3 which is above, but adjacent to the river. It took about a minute or less to walk down to the river. My only complaint about site #3 was the lack of shade but other than that, everything was perfect. In my September visit, I stayed at site #1. This site is closer to the road, which was not ideal but there wasn't much to choose from at the time I arrived. To my surprise, there was a lot more people visiting in late September than there was in early June. Even so, my stay was very enjoyable. This place is a gem, and if I'm being honest- I'd like to keep it a secret lol. However, it's just too good not to share :)

Big sites, spread out for decent privacy

Lovely and private, particularly for the area. Many of the other nearby campgrounds lack privacy and tree coverage. The biggest downside is that the road nearby is busier than it seems like it should be for a two-lane forest road, and that there’s no real water view. Some sites do border the creek, which is nice. We stayed at Site 13, in the middle of the campground.

I suspect the person who suggested driving across “the bridge” actually stayed at Parry Peak campground just down the road. There is no bridge at Twin Peaks.

Beautiful views

The view from site 14 was wonderful especially after smoke haze cleared. Clean bathrooms but water system closed due to absent backflow preventer since 2019. All area Forest Service campgrounds have bags/tape on hydrants. People at Twin Lakes store openly hostile when asked about water. We stayed four nights and had to go to Buena Vista to fill our jug. Fee reduced $3 to $21 presumably because of no water. Get rid of concessionaires and fix the parks.

Quiet, beautiful campground

Beautiful little campground between Twin Lakes and Independence Pass. Our site had a large enough space for our oversized ground tent and enough shade to keep cool in the heat of the day. Our site was adjacent to the river which provided a loud background noise that is heaven to sleep to. The views of the peaks surrounding the campground are stunning from nearly every part of the campground , but especially along the edge of the river. The campground was quiet and peaceful, with the sites far enough apart. We had a very restful few days at this campground and it sits near the top of our best-of list .

Isolated, Picturesque, Perfect

My favorite part: drive across the bridge!! There are twice as many campground spots as you initially think!

We got the best spot, day-of, & paid on our way out. Go across the bridge, down the hill, to the right at the end of the loop. Aka the southeast corner of the campground. It's close to a restroom and has a vast area to explore behind the campsite where we set up hammocks! (Be polite to the foliage and wildlife, though).

There's a walking trail in the far east end of the campsite that goes all the way to a bridge crossing the river.

My friends bought firewood back at the entrance; easy purchase.

We drove the quick few minutes back to Twin Lakes for kayaking; super easy commute!

Beautiful and Quiet

We went to this site with no reservations in the middle of July. There were a handful of sites open and we took site #3. Even with neighbors the only sounds we heard were the river and an occasional passing car on the road above.

The bathrooms were clean (pit toilets) and there was water at the camp host site and firewood available for purchase. No showers.

The hiking trail next to the river is great too.

What an amazing find!

Some friends and I were driving over Independence Pass after a Memorial Day (2018) weekend trip of camping and visiting Hanging Lake and Maroon Bells. We were deciding on heading home when we found this beauty! It was the only night that we were able to have a fire and the river was roaring, such an amazing camping spot!

Breathtaking views!

This is a beautiful campground with gorgeous views of mountains on either side. There is drinking water and vault toilets (some of the best maintained vault toilets). We were trying to find camping on our road trip and so many places were full because it was the weekend but we took a chance on this campground and were pleasantly surprised there were only a few other campers. This campground had only been open for operation for a week when we stayed there.
