About

National Forest

There are 10 campsites available. Trailhead access to Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness is across the road. Two miles to the east is the ghost town of Independence, an early mining town. Lost Man Family Campground is situated directly across Independence Pass road from Lost Man Trailhead. The campsites are within a lodgepole pine forest at 10,500' above sea level.

Amazing campsite

Love this campground! Great location along Independence pass, short drive to aspen, across the street from lost man trail head, and very close to lots of great hikes and areas to explore. The campgrounds were nestled into a nice forest providing lots of shade and kept the area cool, and there was a beautiful creek directly behind our site. My one and only complaint is that they used far too much chemicals in the vault toilets, made my nostrils burn while using the restroom.

Outstanding

Great campground pulling right off of rte 82 but with little to no road noise or visual. Best sites are along creek (3,4,6,7) with others ranging from 2.5 to 4 stars. Sites have table and fire pit and adult trees on soft dirt and flowers. Most of the 9 or 10 sites are large... The largest, listed above as creekside, are about 1/5 acre! The creek is wild and natural with bear and moose potential. Price is 25$ without senior discount... Self pay and daily checked. Two clean pit toilets and central pump for clean water. Outstanding front country spot... One of the best we know. We arrived noon on Monday miss July and pick of several of the best sites. IMPORTANT TIP. Site 7 shares parking spot with 6... So easily passed by even when empty. check closely as 7 is one of nicest spots... Often empty.

Great Spot!

Nice campsite right on the banks of Roaring Fork River. Small site with 10 spots, first come, first serve. Arrived on a Wednesday in July just before noon and there were several spots to pick from. Sites 4 - 7 are on the river, which was very nice, good for sleeping. There are as fire pits and tables at each campsite. Vault toilets and a water spout on site. Plenty of lodgepole pines between sites so it feels private. Trail head for Lost Man Trail is right across the street, or head east on Hwy 82 to Independence and Lost Man Lake Tail head for a nice out and back.

Great little spot with amazing scenic views

This campsite is small with only 10 spots, so it isn’t overrun with people which is awesome! There are toilets and a water spout, as well as fire pits at each campsite. It’s nice, quiet, and has a stream flowing right next to it. The real amazing part though is the access to Lost Man Trail right across the street. Easy hike to amazing views of the mountains, valley, and water features. Also a quick drive into Aspen and nearby trails. We will definitely be back here.
