Overview

COMMERCIAL TOUR GROUPS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT TEN-X CAMPGROUND Commercial operators MUST obtain a special use permit to operate on National Forest System lands, including Ten-X Campground. Due to high public demand, Kaibab National Forest will not be issuing any special use permits for Ten-X Camground until further notice. Therefore, no commercial tour groups are allowed at Ten-X Campground. All violators will be removed from the campground immediately and given a fine for violating the Code of Federal Regulations.__ Perhaps the biggest draw to Ten-X Campground in northern Arizona is its proximity to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Located just 4 miles south of the park entrance in beautiful Kaibab National Forest, Ten-X is a quiet, peaceful campground that generally has open camping sites. A nature trail weaves its way through the pine forest, and many more hiking opportunities are within a short drive. The facility can accommodate individual and family visitors, as well as large groups up to 75 people.

The campground The campground has a 3 mile loop trail as well as a shorter hikes that allow visitors to observe local flora and fauna. Elsewhere, the nearby town of Tusayan offers horseback riding, helicopter rides and other tours. Many hiking, sightseeing, cultural history and outdoor recreation opportunities lie just a few miles away in Grand Canyon National Park.

Natural Features

Ten-X is situated in a pleasant Ponderosa pine and Gambel oak forest at an elevation of 6,600 ft. The forest is nestled on the Colorado Plateau, an area of land that was uplifted by geologic processes. Summer temperatures range from 50 degrees at night to 80-90 degrees during the day. Summer thunderstorms, known as the monsoon, can build up quickly, especially during July and August. Snow is common from December through March.

Nearby Attractions

Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim, just 4 miles away, is a must-see for Ten-X campers. The adjacent town of Tusayan has a wide array of amenities, such as a gas station, restaurants, small grocery store, banks, hotels, internet access, mountain biking trails and many different tours.

Big, Quiet Campground - But DUSTY and NO WATER or DUMP

This is a pleasant, out of the way campground. There is water on site, but you are NOT ALLOWED to fill your RV from it, as water has to be trucked in. There is no dump station either. You have to travel a good 10 miles into Grand Canyon National Park to dump your load.

The sites are gravel, and they have a mix of pull through and back in sites. A good number of them are first-come, first-served. The roads are dirt and are VERY DUSTY. Don't be surprised to see a film of brown dust inside your rig if you leave the windows open.

The hosts in the Black Bear Loop were very friendly and helpful, but not nosy like some hosts can be.

I should also mention that, during my September stay at least, the place was absolutely SWARMED with yellow jackets. I never got stung (they aren't very aggressive) but they constantly buzz you and land on you. Gets annoying.

Overall, this is a decent campground but I would probably not stay here again due to the extreme hassle of having to drive 20 miles to get to water and a dump station.

Close to Grand Canyon national park

Ten-x campground is a beautiful campground near the south rim of the grand canyon there are many sites and bathrooms you can get a sit by a bathroom or not but it is not that far either way but one thing is that there are some yellow jackets so be careful but I do totally recommend

Wooded and peaceful

This is a nice campground just outside Grand Canyon National Park. It has lots of nature pine trees and some good space between campsites. Lots of yellow jackets in July so those with allergies beware.

It is a nice and beautiful campground close to the Grand Canyon the only thing is that the bathrooms are 5-10 minutes away from camp and SOO many Yellow Jackets would recommend if you aren't allergic to wasps or hornets or bees I would also recommend the foode club expensive chicken sandwich but good for the price of. 17.00$ just to let you know the arcade, buffet, and bowling are not at the campsite. The campsite is 5-10 minutes away from the south rim would also recommend a big tent trust me YOU NEED ONE Also if you are more stylish you can camp in an Rv, group area, and they allow handicap ♿ ♿ ♿ ♿ people and you can make sure to check in but you actually don't need to that's thinking smart just come here at night yellow jackets aren't out then and just heads up there's no W.I.F.I

Premier Forest Service Campground

Just outside of the entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park, Ten-X is tops. This place is undergoing significant expansion with new infrastructure. It looks like by 2022, there will be electric and water at the new sites (I counted at least 120 more). Right now, there is only one fill point for water and it is only for toting away water not filling RVs. I was concerned because the USFS website did not accurately describe this campground. There is indeed room for a 43 foot rig in maybe 8 spots. The expansion will include more as well. The sites are nicely spaced for privacy. I hate vault toilets but these are brand new and very clean. No dump site here but I saw indications there may be one with the expansion. This was an extraordinarily clean campground and well laid out. There are some walking trails and that was a nice touch. Big elk walking through camp! Update September 2022: expansion occurred, decent sites, no water expansion to new loops, still same set up, no hookups. Still very well maintained although they could maintain the walking trails better. Yes, yellowjackets.

Great spot for beginners (us)

My bf and I loved camping at Ten-X, it was our first “serious” camping trip and overall it was amazing. The campsites have a grill, picnic table and fire pit which was very handy, they’re also pretty spacious and not too close together. The Campgrounds are really close to the Grand Canyon south rim entrance so it was perfect for our trip since we planned on going there. We got to see some elk and the stars at night were breathtaking. Would definitely come back sometime.

Good rest out of the National Park

South Rim Grand Canyon is very busy and populated. This camp is a short drive out of the park and a great reprieve from the heat and crowds at the end of the day. Very wide open and spacious, private, I was able to shower with our outside camper spigot. Nice small herd of elk walking through in the morning. Would camp here any time.
They are doing work in the camp and I hope they don’t overpopulate it.

Good Location, dated campsite

Great location outside of Grand Canyon National Park. Site 51 on the loop has no clear area of where to park. Campsite is very out in the open next to the camp road. Close to bathrooms. Facility seemed a little dated.

Perfectly Quiet

This campground is perfectly situated 5 miles south of the South Rim visitor center. Large open sites in the pines, quiet and peaceful. A great reprieve from the crowds and business of the GrandCanyon

Good Spot for the South Rim

Sites 1-13 are FCFS. Rest are in the Reservation System. Some pull through sites and some just off the edge of the roadway. Pit toilets are clean. No hand sanitizers available and did not see any sanitizing going on for cleaning, as well. Tables and fire pits. Potable water, no hookups. Treed sites and shade.

So spacious

I highly recommend this campground. Not only were the people working there so nice the grounds themselves were immaculate. The sites were so big with plenty of room to spread out and have some distance from your neighbors. We stayed Memorial weekend and it was still so peaceful minus once incident with a loud radio from the neighbor who turned it down at 10. If you’re in the area this is a must stay. Be prepared for the cold nights though. We happened to stay during a freak cold snap but it still gets pretty chilly especially if you’re tent camping. PS make sure you’re staying bear safe as they are clearly in this area.

Loved this campground

I took away one star because there is no showers. This was our favorite campground on our trip through Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon and Sedona. We were tent camping. The campground was very quite and the tent sites level with table and fire pit. There are pit toilets which can really smell bad in the summer. It was really cold when we were there and we were across from the toilets and it was not a problem. In the summer I would make sure to pick a site far away from the toilets. This place was much nicer than the Park campgrounds we stayed in. Also there is a small town near by for food and restaurants. Only a short drive to the South Rim.

Great & quiet but close to the Grand Canyon!

Large campsite with lots of shade and space between sites. Several toilets as well as fire pits and grills at each site. Best thing is the proximity to the park without the crowds!

Very nice and plenty of space

This campground is a great place to stay for cheap if you want to camp out near the Grand Canyon. It was only 20ish minutes from the canyon and it was a great place to camp out with a few friends.

Hidden Gem

I was surprised at how forested the campground was. Most of this area is junipers, but this campground is in a nice shady stand of pinon pines. I'd stay here again when going to the Grand Canyon.

I stayed Sunday-Tuesday in early August. I arrived Sunday around 5pm and the place was about 70% full. It was less than half full Monday night. I was in one of the spots furthest from the highway and there was very little highway noise.

-While there's little highway noise, the campground is less than a mile from the airport. Expect near constant air tour airplanes overhead from 6am to sunset. There's hardly any airplane traffic at night though, so once the sun goes down it's not an issue.

-DO NOT pick a site next to a bathroom. They're kept as clean as possible considering they're pit toilets, but OMG that smell....

-I wish the host was a little more proactive in enforcing the night time curfew. Generators are loud.

-Bring tough tent stakes. The ground is very hard below the first two inches (common in northern AZ). I destroyed two of my stakes.

I saw there's a few questions about a confusing check in, so here you go: Drive in and go find a vacant spot. Occupied spots will either have a sign saying that it's reserved, or a yellow slip of paper in a little green box in front of the campsite. Once you find a spot, park, note your site number, and walk back to the pay station to fill out the pay envelope and pay. Detach the flap of the envelope and put it in the green box at your site.

Quiet and close to the South Rim!

This campsite is so convenient and very close to the South Rim, while being away from the chaos taking place in the Grand Canyon Village. After one exhausting day of dealing with a ton of tourists and another day of hiking, it was wonderful to come back to this peaceful retreat. It has more going for it than meets the eye; although the sites are plain and don't offer much in terms of scenery, the campground is large, which allows campers to be blessed with a good amount of space. I never felt like I was stacked up against anyone else, and it was incredibly quiet. If you use a tent, the ground is covered in pine needles, but the ground is very firm, so bring a hammer for your stakes. The whole campground is filled with trees, which makes each site feel nestled and cozy, and at night the moon is beautiful as it peeks through. Don't expect much in amenities either; there are only pit toilets, water faucets, and campfire pits, but there is a campground in the Grand Canyon Village that has coin-operated showers. Though there are a number of reservable sites, quite a few of the single-family tent sites are non-reservable, which is what I did. Check-in starts at 2pm, so we got there 30-60 minutes early to make sure we could secure a site. The day we arrived it wasn't really necessary to get there that early, but it wasn't a risk I was willing to take. There is an Information stand with maps and camping rules at the front of the campground, and you place the cash for your site in an envelope and slip it in the reservation box ($10/night for tent sites). Campsite hosts were incredibly kind and helpful. One more thing: not only does the campsite get very, very dark at night, but it gets COLD (so bring layers)!! This campsite was very nice and affordable, and it was so worth it to not be amongst the tourist chaos within the park. It is just a quick drive into the Village, and it was great to have this retreat to look forward to after a few busy days exploring the Grand Canyon.

Just what I hoped for

This is such a great location and very chill campground. It filled up quick but was still pretty quiet when I was there. It's only $10 which is a great price, especially considering how close you are to GC.

The bathrooms were clean but don't have any kind of solar light so you'll need a light if you need to go in the dark :) make sure to bring your own hand sanitizer.

The fire pits had cooking grates which is pretty cool if you're traveling light and don't bring your own.

Crowded

We came at peak season- and so we were in the overhaul section of the campground. It was a good place to rest our heads and super close to the south rim entrance. We were two steps away from our neighbors who were luckally really awesome and fun people who we actually became friends with and chatted until 4 am over smores and a fire! If you have the right attitude this place is great- but I can see where the crowds would get tiring.

A peaceful retreat from the crowds

We were so pleased to find this camp on the way to the South Rim (about 15 min from Grand Canyon NP). There was only 3 other campers on the entire site when we arrived in Sept. WE were greeted by a stunning stellar Jay at the sign in station (self pay). Sites were large and clean (we were tent camping) there are rural toilets. Other than that there are no facilities. There are 70 single sites and 2 group camping sites on the property. Beautiful hiking trails with elk and other wildlife all around. Good substitute to Mather Campground

Great wooded campground near the grand canyon that is less crowded than mather campground. Lots of elk and deer in the area. Gets you away from the tourists and visitors of the grand canyon.
