Welcome to Hammock’Sway camping retreat. Pet friendly Off Grid camping in Tennessee. where a combination of privacy and nature allow you to escape the world or even find yourself. The perfect location for Off Grid camping up in the mountains and under the stars of Middle Tennessee. Hammock Sway offers 40 acres of primitive camping along the Rocky River.

Close to Fall Creek Falls, Cumberland Caverns and Rock Island State park. As well as Isha yoga center down the road. Lots of adventures await all around Hammock'Sway.

Tent camping, hammock camping, car camping, camper or RV. All camping styles are welcome.

Directions

When you turn off Rocky River Road it will be a nice Gravel Road. That nice Road will turn to a crappy Road. Then to a dirt road. At the red shipping container continue straight about 200 yards and as long as I know you're coming I will meet you there.

Lovely off grid property!

We really enjoyed camping on Chris’s property, it was isolated (no cell service) and private just like we wanted! Our dogs had a fun time in the river (river campsite with small hike to it) and we just got to live in the woods uninterrupted for a few days like camping should be. Primitive sites so no electricity/tables/toilets, and bit of a rough drive in, but Chris gave us detailed instructions through the road/onto the property and we had no issues in my hatchback getting in or out. The swing by the river is awesome and we had some nice exploring time. We definitely plan to return!

Magical

Hammock’Sway is a magical place to visit. The energy of the land draws you in and makes you feel at home. A truly special place...

First of all, Chris is the most accommodating host I've ever met. He went out of his way to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. He has 3 adorable puppies, one of which kept me company by my campfire :) You will not find a more tranquil, secluded spot. I'll definitely be returning sooner rather than later. I went during the cold season and still had an amazing time, I can only imagine how perfect it is in the warmer months when you can dip in the creek!

Most Peaceful place we’ve ever camped ❤️

My fiancée and I came to Hammock Sway looking for a peaceful space to stay for a week and we couldn’t have been more satisfied.

From the open hilly land that we chose as our site (plenty of solar power!) , to the pine forests and incredible creek, this is by far our favorite campground on the East side of the States.

Our dogs had a blast, we were able to filter creek water to drink (Berkey), we had plenty of space/privacy, and the eggs were fresh and perfect with breakfast 🌞 Truly the perfect spot for off-grid campers 🙌🏽

We can’t wait to visit again.

Group camping & hammock camping

Me and my friends and family all had a great time. It’s a hidden gem with having the river near by. Being able to hang our hammocks in the different tree forest and having our dogs with us too! Couldn’t have asked for a better spot! 10/10 🔥

Beautiful and secluded

Great place to go camping! Chris is very helpful, friendly and willing to show you around upon arriving. You will also be introduced to all his great dogs. After that you won’t be bothered unless you need help. Very beautiful wooded area with tons of privacy and plenty of room for everyone. There’s about 40 acres to walk around with an amazing river to walk along. I would highly recommended this place to anyone that doesn’t mind camping without amenities other then what you can bring for yourself.

Primitive Camping At Its Best

I camped at Hammock Sway on Friday night, August 9, 2019. According to the camp owner and host Chris, the camp was one year and ten days old the night I visited. This is a primitive camping experience in the pristine woods of Van Buren County, TN about 20 miles(30 minutes) outside of McMinnville, Tennessee. The campground borders the beautiful Rocky River. The camp is a work in progress, but I’m so glad that I was one of those who found it in its infancy. The campsite I chose is buried in a pine forest. Though I was only 30 minutes away from a large town, I felt like I was a million miles away. I enjoyed watching the moon rise through the pines and catching glimpses of the stars through the treetops. This place is beautiful! Chris is a welcoming and helpful host. When I arrived he greeted me with a smile and handshake. I asked him to hop in my SUV, and he gave me the driving tour of Hammock Sway. He showed me each campsite, described why he had chosen it, and then invited me to choose the one in which I felt most comfortable. The site I chose already has a tent setup and is available for campers to use if needed. The site had a rock fire ring and there was plenty of wood to be gathered and used for a campfire. At the moment, all the sites are primitive, which for me, is exactly how I like to camp. Even if every campsite was filled, I doubt you would be able to hear or see anyone else. This is definitely the place to get away from it all. There’s very little cell service, so you will need to make your phone calls before arriving. You will also want to grab all of your supplies before arriving too(this place is out there.) I did struggle to find the campsite since Rocky River Road wasn’t marked with a road sign, but I use paper maps(Lewis and Clark style), so this might not be an issue for someone with GPS in their car or on their phone. Chris responded promptly to text messages, and he helped me find my way in. At the moment, I would only drive a truck or SUV to this camp. You will need the clearance on some of the roads if you want to drive right up to the campsite, and a car might not work at the moment. You could always park your car and carry your supplies to the campsite if you're okay with that. There’s room for RVs too if that’s your thing. Overall, this is one of those places that I would go back to over and over again. The price is right and the place is perfect. I look forward to watching this camp grow.
