Buckhorn Campground can be the quick escape you need from LA. The campground is drenched in the fresh air with the smell of incense cedars surrounding visitors. Overnight, campers may spot seasonal constellations, planets, and the occasional shooting star. During the day, visitors can venture to nearby waterfalls or trails including the Burkhart Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Silver Moccasin. Buckhorn Campground has much to offer.

$12 per night per site, $5 for extra vehicle. Campsites are first come-first served. No reserving or holding of campsites allowed.

Best spot in local LA so far

Went solo on Tuesday and it was very quiet with only handful of people. I’m pretty sure it will get crowded and loud on weekends. Temperature dropped down to 40s at night in May/June. There were not many bugs during the day and not as dusty, unlike Chilao which is pretty close to this one. This is the best campground in local LA so far if you don’t want to drive over 6 hours to other great spots like Big Sur, Sequoia and Yosemite. Will definitely visit time to time.

Close to Home

If your looking for a near campground near Los Angeles, la Canada, Pasadena then look no more. This place is one of the best campgrounds I’ve ever been that’s near to where I live. It is self-serve only $12 a night and there is many things to do here. Go on a adventurous hike, watch the wildlife, just be lazy and BBQ, and especially in the night OMG it looks so beautiful. The stars flickering in the night is the best thing that I love. But let’s not forget that beautiful sunrise and sunset and those beautiful redwood trees. This place is great for big groups there is plenty of space, it does get crowded in the weekend and holidays. Also it’s a bit noisy with neighbor campers partying it up but I mean every campground is like that.

Also this place is one way in and one way out. Don’t get confused many people do. Also I don’t recommend big RVs because the roads are very small. But if your a badass driver then go for it 😁

So pretty, but a little loud!

I love this campground for the area. Beautiful trails near by, next to a stream, gorgeous views, and of course that mountain air! Trees are perfect for hammocks. I’ve been here a couple times and it’s always been really crowded and loud, and if you want to party in the woods, this is the spot! If you’re looking for a more remote area, this isn’t it. Still an enjoyable campground and if I’m going with several friends this will be the place we go!

All time fave

Love love love. BUT best when not a lot of people are camping unfortunately. Get there early to grab the best spot. Look for a stream and shade! The rocks, trees and streams in the campground and the hike are amazing.

Not for those seeking quiet and seclusion

Easy to get to, but fills up VERY fast. Open spaces for large group camping. Fire pits at every campground and easy to walk to hiking trail. Most of the people camping there played loud music all night. Not exactly a get away from the city.

Quick Getaway to Nature

There’s about 38 campsites

If you want to do group camping there’s plenty of it there . 9-10-11 are the best ones with shade together , they have a campfire circle big enough for 10+

Plus there’s a nice waterfall trail which will be 2.5 in & 2.5 miles back

Gem tucked away 👌🏽

We love to travel and camp but can’t always carve out the time for a long drive out of LA. We found this gem, just 1 1/2hrs from LA and you’d never know you were anywhere near the city. It’s the perfect getaway, birds singing, and the scenery makes you feel like you’re in Tahoe. Amazingly quiet space, so tranquil and an absolute perfect temperature in August during the day and night. The only thing I’d recommend is bug spray, there’s lots of flying critters but that’s about it. We love this place and will certainly go back!

Quiet, Well Maintained, Great Hiking

Lots of space between campsites. Babbling brook to lull you to sleep at night. Very quiet after 10:00 pm.Great for families. Great hiking trail that was very well maintained.

One Of The Best

Great car camping location with lots to do. Plenty of camp sites but they fill up fast, especially during the summer on weekends. Very comfortable with all the amenities and enough space in between sites for low noise. Very beautiful with tall cedar, pine, fir and spruce with a nice creek in the wet season. Trails going all over the place, some easy some steep and wild life every where you look. Simple tent sites to bigger trailer pads for every type of camper. Probably the best campground in SoCal. Great for kids.

Buckhorn, San Gabriel Mountains

Beautiful campground. A little over 6000 feet up in the pine trees. The campground fills quickly for the weekend. It’s a first come/first serve so get there early. If it’s full there’s other campgrounds nearby, but a lower elevation.

Theres hiking trails right out of the campground. A stream runs through the campground in the spring.

No traffic and not a lot of people in this area. Great little getaway.

Goid for small RVs. Over 24 foot not recommended.

Most beautiful campground in the Angeles National Forest!

We've wanted to camp here for so long, but we've never been able to get a spot. We finally did this weekend, and it fully lived up to our expectations. Because this campground is set within a ravine that has a stream during the rainier months, so the landscape feels very different than the other nearby campgrounds - very green with tall trees. The campsites have plenty of space between neighbors, so we felt we had privacy and weren't disturbed by any noise from other sites. Each site has a picnic table, firepit, and bear box for food storage. There is a water spigot at the campground, but the ranger advised that it's not potable.

There's day parking at the end of the campground for the trailhead to Cooper Canyon Falls. In the summer the "waterfall" is barely a trickle, but the hike still has a nice stream and is worth doing.

Best Car Camping Spot in the Angeles Forest

This place is lovely and a well designed campground. It is however very popular, you need to get there early to get a good spot. It is set back from the road a little giving you a quieter experience away from the 2. This would be a good first car camping spot for families with young children.

Buckhorn Campground, LANF

__I introduced camping to my 2 year-old son, Leonardo, and have my wife feel more comfortable about sleeping outdoors. Nestled up at 6,300 feet, Buckhorn Campground has 38 campsites, plenty of restrooms, running water, bear-lockers, maintainable staff on site, hiking trails leading to a couple of seasonal waterfalls, peaks, a plane wreck (mount Williamson), and several more hiking options requiring car-shuttle system. This place is filled with life & is a great place for families to bond and have fun.

Loud but cool campsite

When I was here just a couple of days ago, the campground wasn't closed (May 2017). There were lots of people in the campground.

The campground itself is a little loud during the day time. Being right of Hwy 2, you can hear cars all day long which doesn't create much separation to enjoy nature. However, they have a really beautiful trail called the Burkhart trail that weaves through a river valley and large (redwood?) trees, a great trail for a short hike.

Each campsite had a picnic table and fire pit, and although the campground said the water spigots were broken they worked just fine.
