Friendly people, one bathroom

We stayed a Grassmere Park Campground from Saturday to Sunday in July.

We called the campground phone number the few days leading up to our trip to reserve a campsite and ask questions about their pet policy. We never had anyone answer or call back.

Renting the actual camp site was a little awkward, there are not a lot of signs directing you to the office. Upon arriving there was no one in there (lights off, but door open). I asked a group of people hanging around the picnic tables behind the office how to rent a camp site. A woman came in to take my information and help me. They had camp sites only (no cabins) we opted for the one with water and electric (36$ a night). She invited us to the pig roast that night and let us know about the live music starting after. Unfortunately, we did not attend the pig roast because we had our dogs and couldn’t leave them in our tent.

We were instructed to follow a golf cart to where our site was. The site was large and shady. Some areas had a lot of rocks which gave us a little trouble with our tent stakes, but were great for tire traction in the rain. We didn’t try the electric and the water was run off a long hose that came from somewhere we couldn’t see. The spigot handle was broken and sharp so we had to be pretty cautious of that (use a towel). The site had a campfire ring and a picnic table. There were trash cans nearby as well.

We bought firewood at the campground by going to the office and putting an order in. The owner of the campground came out and delivered it. He offered to let us purchase only a half stack (12-13 pieces) versus a whole stack since we were only staying the night. Unfortunately, the wood was a little wet so getting a good fire going was giving us some trouble. Our neighbors very graciously helped us start a fire and gave us some of their dry firewood.

The only bathrooms were far from the campsites and pretty limited in space. I believe each one had 2 stalls and a shower.

We left our camp site unattended and went for a hike in Rickets Glen (10-15 minutes east on 118). All of our items were fine when we returned.

It rained very heavily during the night and our camp site did not flood or retain water which was really great.

Everyone was friendly at the campground and the live band was great. Most of the people we talked to were from the area and came to the campground to enjoy the live music. There were many families and children there and everyone was in good spirits. Definitely follow the Facebook page for updates on when the next roast is! Thank you for having us!

PS. Zero cell service at this campground, didn’t effect us, but might be a problem if you needed to be reachable
