Winter Rains

The camp sites were gravel on dirt, which became muddy with large puddles in the December rains. They are simple back-ins with water and electricity and no physical barriers demarcating one site from the next aside from the small concrete utilities pad. The staff were super friendly, and they called us ahead of time to let us know about the situation with the option to cancel for a full refund. The prior days of rains and the onslaught of winter storms had caused restricted availability of campsites, so most of the areas were closed off, as were a lot of the buildings and amenities such as the post office and laundromat. Pumps ran in the back area during the day to reduce the pooling of water. This campsite was more fortunate than another in the area which had to evacuate their campers due to knee-deep flooding, as our new neighbor relayed his first hand experiences to us.

The location is good with respect to the area. It’s less than an hour’s drive to the heart of San Francisco, and the coast to the north and Point Reyes are worth visiting. Within an hour’s time along the hilly coast, we had seen deer, Holsteins, coyotes, a large herd of elk, and elephant seals.
