Pretty but heavily visited

Cades Cove itself is a gorgeous loop but the campground isn't as private and secluded as one would expect for camping. To me it feels a little more pruned and polished and not as "wild" as Elkmont & Cosby. Rangers also seem to be more stringnent in this campground than at others-although I am not a rule breaker-it seemed they were extra tough on certain things. Still enjoyable and still GSM but not my first choice.

Cosby=solitude in the GSM

Cosby is the by far the most secluded and private campground in the Smokies. While there is lack of waterfront sites it is much more peaceful than any of the others. It's very peaceful and close to awesome trails-Low Gap and Lower Mt Cammerer. Also the best hidden jewel nearby is Carver Orchard and Applehouse. Cosby town itself is a neat little corner of the world and very worth being away from Gatlinburg.

Elkmont=waterfront haven

Stay on the walk to peninsula. Sites B1-3 are the BEST. You get to surround yourself with the tranquil sounds of rushing waters 24/7. Very private and no street noise.
