Shoes for rocky trails

I’ve heard from AT hikers that the trails in Pennsylvania are really rocky. If you’re just wearing normal hiking boots is it ok. Or do the thru-hikers just hate it because they are wearing trail runners?

As someone who runs/ hikes on the NJ/ PA portion of the AT I’ve never had an issue just using trail running shoes. Yes they are super rocky but trail runners have always offered me ample protection. Go with what feels comfortable.
