Best camping around salt lake city?

just moved here! And I’m looking for camping that’s close to salt lake, unlike all the national parks farther south

Hey allisonwy! One spot I’d recommend is Smith and Morehouse which is about an 1hr 15 min from SLC. You usually have to do reservations online, but the one time I went there, I was able to find a spot and got lucky. Its a really beautiful place!

lookup Palisade State Park

Check out Smithfield Campground. It’s maybe 2 hours from SLC, but very nice. Downside is you can’t reserve them, so you need to get there early to get a spot. $20. Very clean, quiet. Bathrooms are among the cleanest I’ve seen.

There are so many to choose from and it really depends what type of camping you are trying to do (RV, tent, backpacking, etc.)

Some of the ones that are great all around are:
Spruces in Big Cottonwood Canyon (reserve online because it books up)
Payson Lakes
Yuba Lake State Park
There are a ton of places along Mirror Lake Highway (hwy 150 from Kamas, UT)
Smith and Morehouse
Joe’s Valley Reservoir
Palisade State Park
Scofield State Park
Fish Lake
