Just doing some daydreaming and wanted to know if I could beach camp in Hawaii

I just moved to Maui so trying to figure this out. Generally the answer is no. There are a few areas that are legal but most beaches are illegal to camp on. Depending on the island there are some “hidden beaches” that you aren’t supposed to camp at but people definitely do. Doesn’t seem to be an issue, but too new to say for sure
There are definitely several designated beach campsites on all the islands! The permits tend to fill up fast at the popular sites. It’s great to wake up next to the water.
