The Outlaw Cave Campground is located in the Middle Fork Powder River Recreation Area. This remote country, with its red wall and deep canyons, was a favorite hiding place of Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch. The area includes two caves and a corral used by the robbers to store their loot. The Middle Fork of the Powder River, a 12-mile long, blue-ribbon trout stretch of the Powder River, also flows through the site. Additionally, the area is an elk and deer winter forage range. The campground is a no-fee site and is first come, first served. It includes 12 rustic camping spaces and one vault toilet. There is no water and no trash collection; please pack out all garbage. Prehistoric resources are located near the site. Please do not collect or damage these resources. BLM recommends that you do not venture out into this areas during periods of inclement weather. Additionally, Outlaw Cave Road is closed during the winter from January 1 through April 14.

Awesome campsite on top of a canyon
This is an awesome campsite! You camp on to of an enormous canyon that you can hike down to the river if you're up for a challenging hike! I followed my GPS and it took me on crazy roads into the middle of nowhere near private property signs, so don't follow the GPS, follow signs and stay on that main road it leads to! It really feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. The views are so beautiful I definitely reccomend. There is a latrine and fire rings/grills at each site!
Outlaw Cave Campground
This primitive campsite is located along the middle fork of the Powder River west of Kaycee, Wyoming. I would suggest an AWD or 4WD vehicle to reach the site. This area of Wyoming is called Hole-In-The-Wall country, and Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch used to hide out in the vicinity. There are also some very nice pictographs nearby.
The campsite is free with a vault toilet and no other amenities -- no potable water, no wood, and no trash pick up. Haul out what you haul in. It can get very hot and windy here in the summer. So much so that I cut a two night trip short by one night. You have access to the middle fork of the Powder River, but it's about 800 feet below you as the campsite is on a canyon bluff.
