The park has the feel of an old-time camping resort but with modern amenities. It's known for its warm saltwater swimming, scenic beauty, and abundant shellfish.

Kayakers and paddlers share space with seals, and boaters motor out in search of the perfect crabbing or fishing spot. At low tide, oyster shuckers emerge, carrying pails and hand tools. Fishing or shellfish harvesting licenses are required to take part in those activities.

Washington Discover Pass is required for parking which is sold on-site.

Twanoh State Park Campground

Beautiful beautiful place but the beach requires proper footwear as it’s all shells and rocks.

Also encountered too many wasps! Just in 1 day of beach 3 people stung ...who knows true number for the camp site.... lol

also need to know is since it’s a state park it requires discovery pass.

Beautiful place 

Read awesome reviews about this park on other sites. We happened to be in the area today so decided to check it out. Oh boy. Not at all what I was expecting. Campground very open , bumper to bumper sites, little privacy. However there is small creek and easy boat access to the hood canal (just across the road) so if you are a boater this may appeal to you. Too noisy and busy for us. Water access was overcrowded dirty and busy although the typical user seemed to be pleasant families from the neighboring cities. I was just glad we happened to be in the area for a day trip and didn't drive 3 hrs on a blind positive review to visit a dirty beach and a campground next to a busy road. May be for some, just not for us. 

Not at all what I expected

The Twanoh campground was super busy when we went. There is zero buffer between you and the other campers so pray you don't have neighbors with screaming, unruly kids or aggressive off-leash dogs. It was an ok place to crash. Also, we found that Hood Canal is not a good place for fishing/crabbing. The crab we did manage to catch were too small to keep and the algae is so thick it's suffocating all the fish.

Too close for comfort

We loved this spot! A quick walk from camp and your picking oysters from Hood Canal. Amazing! The swimming was great too. We also hiked the trail out of camp which was a pretty, wooded trail. The sites at this campground are great too. Lots of space and many butt up to the creek. 

Oysters! Hiking! Creek Side Sites

Sweet little campsite for a weekend getaway with my fiancé. We had a large corner site facing the creek and the bridge to the trails. The campsites are nice and spacious but very open with no real separation or brush between. A quick walk across the road to the beach was absolutely beautiful. We’ll definitely be back for a weekend warrior quick getaway.

Great location 

This is clean and well-maintained state campground that offers nice access to the southern tip of Hood Canal, although you have to cross Rt. 106 to get to the waterside picnic area and docks, and that can get fairly busy. Most of the campsites are pretty close together, so privacy is not great and noise could be an issue.
At the campground you're really in the woods, so if you need sunlight for your solar panels, you may be out of luck. There are some nice trails that start at the campground. You could ride your bikes along Rt. 106, but again, it's kind of a busy road, and probably more so in the summer. You need a Discover Pass for day use. These are required at pretty much all county and state campgrounds in Washington State. They cost $30 per year.

Walking distance to Hood Canal

We reserved at this park for our first camping trip with our 35’ 5th wheel.  Site T36 said came up in our search for the size of our rig.  We chose this site for what looked like easy access.  When we arrived, we were unable to pull through due to the trees close to the bend.  We backed out and then pulled to the front of the site and backed in.  The trees were so close on both sides that it would have been impossible to fully extend both our slide and awning.  We adjusted our position so we could fully extend the slide.  

The park itself is really nice, our site was close to the road but the traffic was not bad at all.  The beach across the road was filled with oysters and is well maintained.

We really enjoyed the hiking trail.

Nice area for smaller RV’s

We love this park. Sound is right across the road. Days spent at the beach and using our SUPs. Kids love it. Hiking trails and jumping off docks. There are always kids here.

Location was clean, easy to access and feels like a world away from the busy cities close by.

Definitely would recommend

Located right off highway 106, the campsites are really private due to the vegetation. There isn’t a lot of traffic during off-season so all I heard was the sound of the canal and the creek even closer. Firewood is sold onsite and there is a convenience store located about 3 to 4 miles west for other necessities like snacks or an extra pair of gloves. 

Directly behind my campsite was the Twanoh trailhead, where my husband and I hiked in the morning and didn’t see anyone else on the trail. It was pretty wet and muddy so opt for hiking boots over tennis shoes. 

Across the street is the canal, group sites, badminton courts, and lots of grassy areas. It can get busy here in the summer months, but since it’s still early, I only saw two other couples the entire day.

Low traffic this time of year

We spent a night there during a bike camping trip around the Olympic Peninsula. Before finding our site, we rode around the campground and most sites looked quite nice. But the biker/hiker sites are located on the other side off highway 106 and not as nice. We had a nice view of the water from our site but were exposed to the wind and could hear traffic noise all day. I would go back but would avoid the hiker/biker sites and try to get a standard site as far as possible from the highway.
