## Overview

 Sunset Campground is located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Visitors enjoy scenic views of the river and a waterfall within the campground. The campground is open all year. 
## Recreation

 There are several hiking trails nearby, including the Silver Star trail which offers excellent views of Portland, Oregon. The area is also popular with kayakers that visit the East Fork Lewis River.
## Facilities

 Sunset Campground offers 18 standard sites that accommodate tents and RVs (22 feet), but no hookups are available. Picnic tables and campfire rings with grills are provided, as are 3 vault toilets and trash receptacles.
## Natural Features

 The campground is just off the East Fork Lewis River at an elevation of 1,000 feet. The campground road and trail path to the falls are paved and shaded by large evergreen trees.

 The campground is located in between Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams, and only about an hour north of Portland, Oregon.

## Charges &amp; Cancellations

 Cancellations Individual Campsites: Cancellations up to 2 days before a reservation start date incur a $10.00 cancellation fee.\_\_ A visitor who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night\'s use fee including tax and applicable add-on for a campsite. Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. No-Shows A no-show visitor is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until check-out time on the day following the arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first night\'s rate, taxes and applicable add-on for a campsite.\_\_\_\_ Refunds Visitors may submit a refund request through their Recreation.gov profile within 7 days of the end date of their reservation. Refunds will not be issued after the 7 days has ended. Refunds for debit or credit card payments will be issued as a credit to the original bank or credit card used to pay. For check or cash purchases, Recreation.gov will mail a Treasury check for refunds of cash, check, or money order payments to the address associated with the reservation. Treasury check refunds may take up to 6-8 weeks to arrive.\_\_ In the event of an emergency closure, the Recreation.gov team or facility manager will refund all fees and will attempt to notify you using the contact information within the Recreation.gov visitor profile.

Sunset Falls Campground

There are places to swim along the Lewis river, Silverstar look out point is near by, plenty of trees for hammocking and gathering firewood. Very missy and relaxing, the sound of rushing water will help put you to sleep.

Beautiful and private

A nice creek valley, clear easy camp sites with decent spacing, a short walk to a waterfall swim hole, huckleberry and mushroom picking and fantastic sightseeing in Gifford Pinchot top the list here. It's four stars if you get a campsite creekside (which is also further away from the road), three stars for anything else. If Sunset is full, Rock Creek Horse Camp and Cold Creek can each accommodate tent campers - Battle Ground Lake too.

Settle In Settle Down

11 is a walk I’m site that offers the most seclusion in the campground. You are away from all other campers and surrounded by river and trees. The hike along the river and to the waterfalls is short and offers great swimming and relaxing. Fishing is not permitted on the river that runs through the campground.

Fantastic site

Great campground in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Smallish campground with about half the spots right on the river. Nice day use area slightly separated from the camping. Picnic tables and fire rings. Mostly tents when we were there, but there's also pull-through driveway type spots that could fit a trailer. At just $12 per night, price can't be beat.

Plenty of trees and grass. Most spots are slightly exposed to the turn-around road, but still feels private since there's space and trees between the spots.

Not too far from Mouton Falls, which are amazing, plus other hiking and swimming areas nearby.

Waterfalls

I love this little campground. There's ten spots on the right that are all pull-throughs (for tents or small trailers). The sites don't have a ton of privacy, but they have tables and such, enough room (some are much larger than others), and half of them are right overlooking the Lewis River. On the left side there's another eight walk-in campsites, most of which have lots of privacy. The walk-in sites are a very short walk from the parking lot, so unless you need your car or trailer, they're a pretty great way to go.

And finally there's a day-use area just a short walk away with absolutely amazing views of a sweet waterfall.

There's pit toilets, but bring your own water.

I've read horrible reviews about the "camp host" on other sites, but we didn't have any interaction with her, so I can't say anything for sure about it and our time there was lovely.

**Tips:** Bring exact change in cash. When we were there it was $12 for a campsite.

Sweet Little Campgroud Near Beautiful Waterfall

My husband and I took our first camping trip together here this summer. We had a great time. We brought our labrador with us and she enjoyed it as well. It was very quiet and a lovely setting. The camp host has firewood available for purchase as well. The hike to the falls was very short, on a well kept paved path. We will definitely be back. 

Lovely spot for tent camping

This is located at a beautiful place in the forest. The con of that being the trucks going in and out through the day. But overall my stay was quite enjoyable. Site #18 was closest to the road but that allowed me to be parked close. I highly recommend you bring your own bathroom facilities because the vault toilets are... well. Yeah. Isn’t camping fun!!! Yes, it is! I want to return to this campground so that I can explore more trails. 

Great getaway spot

Came here for one night, a quick one hour drive from Portland. When I arrived on a Sunday afternoon, the campground was mostly empty and the day use area was packed. Some sites are reservation and others are FCFS.  There's a great waterfall, swimming hole about a quarter mile walk from the campground. Lots of families were out having a great time swimming, jumping from the rocks and picnicking.

I had a reservation for site #7, but ended up moving to #6 because it was nicer and empty. No one came around to check my reservation. Only 3 other campers were in the campground on a hot August day. All of the sites are pull-though. My site was overlooking the river, but there is no safe way down to the river from any of the campsites, that I could tell. There is a path to the river near the parking area, but the real attraction here is the day use area. 

The day use area was totally empty and surprisingly clean the morning after being super crowded with swimmers. Saw some tiny frogs and tadpoles in the rocks. 

The only bummer was the camp staff were making a lot of noise mowing and blowing Monday morning. I guess that's too be expected, but I was hoping to hang out and listen to the river at my site before I left and it wasn't pleasant. 

It's a beautiful place and would have stayed another night if there was any cell reception. No Verizon. No ATT.

Swimming Hole!

Pretty area! Just inside the NF. Never saw a single staff member while here. Fine by me! Next time I'll choose a better site. Mine was not the best. Not enough trees for my liking. All sites just have a little pull through a bit different for me. I did enjoy hearing the water very easily. Season is winding down it was COLD this morning I was prepared! 

Pretty Waterfall 

Sites are decent not great. Listening to the river was nice. Very quiet for my stay just the way I like it.
Vault toilets are well ICK but it is what it is. Vicks under the nose for the win. 
Trail to falls is paved and shady. I'll be back with a better site in my sights next time. All sights are fcfs until Spring. 
A fire 🔥 would make this location much better....so bring on the 🌧 

Natural Beauty

This is the kind of campground that we love, small, quiet and lovely. Tucked right on the banks of the East Fork of the Lewis River and on the edge of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, this is a great get away for anyone in the Vancouver / Portland area. The campsites are small with pull-through parking that could accommodate rigs up to 35’ or up to three vehicles. It’s short enough to walk it before pulling in to see if you’ve got enough room to turn around. 

  

The sites all have fire rings, and picnic tables and a small tent pad. The vault toilet buildings have taken the brunt of 3 decades of the Washington moss and lichen so were further along the way toward decomposition than I normally like in a bathroom building and smelly, but they were clean enough to use. The water was clean and good tasting and the campground hosts were friendly and efficient. 

  

The campground was pretty forested, but we were able to still charge up our solar powered system even on cloudy days in one of the less wooded sites. We didn’t even need to pull out our portable solar panel, which we often do when camping in forested areas, allowing the camper to be in the shade, keeping it cool, and being able to put the panel out in the sun. 

  

Nearby recreation opportunities are endless, from the world-class paddling on the Lewis River to many nearby creeks and streams. The area is a waterfall chaser’s dream, with many parks and hiking trails within 20 miles, just follow the road back downstream and stop at the many parks along the way. The road is pretty narrow and I wouldn’t recommend riding road bikes along the busy paved roads, but further into the forest the dirt road offers some great access and is perfect for gravel bikes. 

  

In this area you’re about 20-30 minutes from suburban Vancouver WA, where pretty much everything is available, including some pretty fabulous wineries. Check 'em out!

Inexpensive, Gorgeous, & Quiet

This is an amazing small campground with 10 nice RV sites. Great views of falls from just a short hike away. The tent sites looked nice as well. Sound of the east fork of the Lewis River from all parts of the campground. We stayed in site 9 and enjoyed it. Had a sunny day and was able to get some solar charging on our van. We will return at some point as we had a good time
