Lockers are available, but locks are not provided.\_\_ Located along the Sol Duc River, Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort Campground is on the \"edge of the backcountry in the heart of the Olympic National Park\" with hot spring pools and access to many hiking trails. In the late 1800s, settlers found the hot springs and called them \"Sol Duc\" a mispronunciation of the Quileute word for sparkling waters. The first hotel was built at Sol Duc in 1912 but burned down in 1916. The resort was rebuilt on a more modest scale in the 1920s, and completely rebuilt in the 1980s, which reflects how the resort looks today.Recreation.gov offers reservations for 76 of the resort\'s 82 tent sites and for all 17 of the resort\'s RV campsites, all nestled under a lush green canopy of old growth forest. Reservations for the remaining 20 tent sites are made directly at the campground as walk in reservations. Advanced reservations are recommended to guarantee a campsite. ## Recreation

 Reinvigorate your spirit: Hike through dense, old-growth forest to Sol Duc Falls or explore the famous Lover\'s Lane Loop Trail. The Olympic Peninsula is prized for its wide assortment of hiking trails suitable for all ages and abilities. Multiple treks are available, such as a 1.6 mile (2.6 km) round-trip hike to Sol Duc Falls from the resort.\_\_ Watch salmon fight their way up the Sol Duc River at the Salmon Cascades Overlook during autumn. Relax: Soak in the Mineral Hot Springs located at the resort. Swim in the large swimming pool, also located at the resort.

 The campground currently offers two tent camping loops including a walk-in area that accommodate 82 tent campsites plus 17 RV campsites.  Sol Doc offers three mineral hot spring pools heated between 98-107F (37C - 40C) and a large freshwater swimming pool that ranges from 50-85F (10C - 29C). Had a great trip. Quiet. Very clean bathrooms.

Earth day camping

This was an indulgent respite after two nights of camping and two more nights on the road. We spent a couple hours here to soak in the hot springs, then had a picnic lunch. The cabins seemed nice enough, but it's the type of place that a loud grumbling tour bus shows up to occupy all the open cabins...Because that happened. 

Seems like a standard commercial stop on the tour around the Olympic. 

Hot Springs and Lodge

The campground is like most WA state campgrounds - shaded, nestled in the middle of old growth pines and standard amenities. 

What stands out is the hike to the Hot Springs nearby. When we first moved to this state we were excited about a hot springs hike. This is one that is pretty accessible. It is about a 5-6 mile hike RT and no elevation gain. You get to see a waterfall, walk along a river and discover your own little hot spring pool along the way. Note that these pools are more like "wading" pools - none are very deep and about 1/2 the people we saw there were sans bathing suits - so just choose your pool wisely!

Nice campground near a great Hot Springs Hike

Sol Duc is a great homebase if you want to be near the stinky hot springs.  There are some pretty hikes in the area too.  I feel that Hoh, Kalaloch and south beach are nicer areas of the olympic national park to be in.  

Pretty but not the best

This is a beautiful backpacking campsite. It's right by the river, and part of the seven lake basin loop. There is a privy but since it's backpacking, it's all pretty rustic. Highly recommend hiking to this campsite!

Sol Duc Park

For a tent spot at this campground it costs $20. I thought this was a little bit expensive for what you get; however, I was pleasantly surprised to find a spot near the river under a beautiful orange and red sugar maple. Also, I felt much better about $20/night after seeing how much it cost to stay at the lodge! For October, this park was still busy and all the spots adjacent to me were full. Please keep this in mind if you are planning on visiting in the summer months. Regardless of the campground being full, it was still quiet as the river drown out most of the surrounding sounds. The campground is situated between the trail to Sol Duc Falls and Sol Duc Lodge. The hot springs are on site at the lodge and it costs $12 to get in last time I was there. The hot springs were crowded and not as hot as I wished they were. After several days of oatmeal packets for breakfast, I thought it was time to change things up and eat breakfast at the Sol Duc lodge. It won't disappoint! Also, I did the Sol Duc Falls trail first thing in the morning and was glad I did- there were few people on the trail and the sun shining through the trees was amazing! 

Fall adventure

Huge campground with good spaces to park your car and set up a campsite. People are extremely decked out with campervans and house-sized tents. The campground is next door to the resort so you can buy food, snacks etc, eat at their restaurant, and spend a few hours at the pools if you want. 

Great car camping near hot springs and waterfall

We stayed here for a night before a trip around the high divide. The scenery is beautiful here, old-growth forest with a river running along the south side. We had a waterfront campsite, which was elevated a short climb above the water. Not enough water to swim in (a little disappointing), but at least it didn't seem to have a lot of mosquitos.

The site was quite large, we put two 2P tents in one area and a 1P tent closer to the water in the other. Probably could have fit more in both areas. The ground was level and hard in some parts, soft in others. I got all my stakes in, but wished I could find a big rock to hammer two of them in. There is a large picnic table and a firepit with a grill which can be adjusted up or down.

There are bathrooms at either end of the loop, which were a little dirty, and water spouts. The sites are sufficiently spread out such that it isn't that loud, even with some families staying there.

Important note: if you reserve ahead of time, make sure you know your campsite number! There is nothing there to tell you which campsite to go to except the camp host, and no signal. It was good we reserved though, as when we got there on a Friday afternoon the walk-up sites were all full.

Quiet, family-friendly campground in a beautiful forest

We absolutely loved the Sol Duc Falls hike which passes through the campgrounds. It is a very easy hike (we took a two year old and he walked 50% of it) and very rewarding. The coolest part was how much you felt like you were in a different world. It almost made me feel like I was in Jurassic Park or something!
Just a note: it is WA so plan on getting wet and muddy. Everything was constantly wet around Sol Duc. Plan and pack accordingly!

Accessible Other-Worldly Beauty

This is a national park campground with perks.  First, it's stunningly gorgeous - most of the campground is nestled in moss-coated old-growth cedar/hemlock forest.  But second, you're walking distance from the Sol Duc camp store, where you can buy all the things you forgot to pack (plus some extremely reasonably priced and well-selected beers).  Third, if you forgot to pack ANY food at all there's a fantastic restaurant on site, and if that wasn't enough there's the hot springs to attract you here.  Can't imagine what else you'd want at a campground! 

Loveliest campground in Olympic National Park

The whole of Sol Duc was incredible. This is a good place for backpackers to set up after a day out there. The whole way was pretty damp/muddy on a relatively clear June Day so rain pants and a few pairs of socks are recommended. 

The hike getting here was so worth it

If you camp anywhere in the Olympics let Sol Duc be your home base! Right smack in the middle of Olympic National Park we had access to not only the Hurricane ridge area but were close enough to spend a day at Kalaloch on our way home! The soak in the Sol Duc Hot springs were amazing especially after a hike. We saw some great wildlife and wildflowers on this trip. Sol duc is about an hour from Port Angeles. Happy Adventuring! And remember to practice leave no trace ethics.✌❤

Away we go in Olympic National Park!!

**Campsite Review:** This campground in the [**Sol Duc Valley**](https://www.nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/visiting-the-sol-duc-valley.htm) is composed of several different loops and setups for every type of adventurer. In addition to the lodge with a general store and restaurants, there is an RV only parking lot which seemed a little different as it’s just a parking lot with hookups and a table at the end of each space. There was no separation whatsoever between them. However, the loops are more set into the fairytale-like forest and you feel much more like you’re actually in the rain forest. The campsites themselves seemed to all be kind of small, and a little close together but with nice flat areas, tables, fire ring, and lots and lots of underbrush you can’t really see your neighbors. We stayed at site 38 in loop A which had a nice tent spot set out under the trees along with a decent table and fire ring set back from what is basically a parking lot that was open to the road. When getting your site be careful about the exact size allotment if you’re in a larger vehicle, because these sizes didn’t seem correct. This site is listed as being a 35’ back-in, but it really is just a shared parking lot between this and the site next to it (37) across from the central restrooms. While the site might say it’ll fit your vehicle, the roads are narrow and there are a good number of trees and branches around which may impede your maneuvering if you’re in something large. Because our site and the one next to it have “spaces” for 2 vehicles each, we did have a few people whom would pull up park in the “lot” and then explore around the campground and loop at the board for available spaces which was a little annoying, but at least they aren’t walking through our site.

The toilet facilities in Loop A were clean, but could have used a good once over. They seemed to have been maintained, just not super regularly and thankfully no guests had come in and destroyed them. There was hand soap but unfortunately the hand dryers were broken (which I normally like because of the reduction of trash, but dislike because of the increased noise they produce). You have some potable water/dish cleaning spigots, but nothing is there to catch the waste. There are also a couple of bear proof trash cans and the camp host sold fire wood (pricey at $8 a bundle). However, you can collect downed wood whenever the host isn’t selling wood.

You’re also just down the road from the Sol Duc Hot Springs, which is 3 different pools with the water pumped into them. At $15 a person, this seemed a little pricey, but you do get access to the showers, so if you’re really desperate it might be an option to clean up and then relax after some strenuous hikes.



Ranger Review: Camping in the rain forest

We stayed in campground B where there were plenty of spots, most of them flat with huge areas and great picnic tables and fire pits. Flush toilets and hand dryers were amazing on the cold night. Short walk to the resort hot springs and 3 miles up to the falls. Great spot.

Great hikes to falls and hot springs 

We camped here 3 nights (April 14-16) with a group of 7 people, 4 tents on the site total. We stayed in loop A because the rest of the campground was closed on site 9 the first night, then moved to site 10 because someone else had the site reserved after us. We brought a huge tarp to hang over the picnic table and the fire because it rained on an off the whole time while we were there. Both sites are pretty much right on the river surrounded by huge Sitka Spruce so it gave us some amazing sites. The bathrooms and potable water are very nearby, but not an annoyance at all. The campground host Bill was awesome and very accommodating with questions or requests we had. He even offered to allow us to camp in loop B if we wanted. We opted not to because we didn't want to tear down our camp again, but loop B, we talked through and if you don't need to be by the river, it's an awesome loop surrounded by huge old trees. There's a hiking trail all the way from the campground to the waterfalls and I highly recommend doing it, great views in the forest and along the river. If you need anything general food wise, the hot springs resort has a little shop as well as a restaurant if you don't feel like making food at your site. We were even able to use the showers at the resort in the locker rooms (locker room style showers, not private).

Olympic Visit

This is an sweet campground split into four areas. Each had pit toilets, sink waste receptacle, and each site has a table and fire rings. The south campgrounds both have direct river sites to camp while the north ones have a small tributary as well. You can hike directly from either loop A or B to Sol Duc falls or the lovers loop. This is a moderate hike of about 3.8 miles. Early mornings the trail heads were clear and I had the entire loop to myself to enjoy myriad birds and critters everywhere. From the day use Area thee are three trail heads with many scenic and breath taking views. There is a hot springs resort not too far down the road that is $15 for the day. It is crowded with kids on the weekend yet weekdays and early mornings (opens at 9am but when you're too hip like me and find a deadhead on staff she might let you in early too! The fee site is at the camp entrance with ample envelopes. This site is a mix of reserved and walk up. Tent sites, camper van, and full hook ups available. Temps were brisk in evenings in mid July. Was a great spot to continue to heal and fight cancer. Book selection was "How not to die" and the soundtrack was "Down to the Moon" by Andreas Vollenweider. 

Clean, quiet, abundant trail options

Ample opportunities to view waterfalls, beautiful Sol Duc River, &amp; wildlife. If you want an industrialized visit you can stat at the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort. Alternatively there are hike in hot springs above the Elwha River.

If you hike in quietly, you have the opportunity to see Blacktail Deer &amp; Roosevelt Elk.

Beautiful Sol Duc River

I am at awestruck at this campground. There is no cellular service out there, but you can go in to the neighboring Hot Spring Resort for supplies and help with campsite if the camp management is not available. Or to buy services at the Hot Springs. There are cards at the entrance of camp loops to say where you are as well, but I was honestly confused by that. There are no showers at the campground, but does have flush toilets. There are campsites butting up to the river, a couple are a walk down into the site. All campsites are about double the size of normal campsites and are gorgeous. We actually set up our tent and realized we had a whole other area that had much more room for the tent. There was a pesky raccoon that was hopping between sites looking for anything. He tried stealing lighter fluid that was in a bag, he stole cans and candy, and a purse. (He brings it all to the center shrubbery if you unluckily meet him). He's adorable, but dont trust him if he shows up. There is a trail with an outstanding waterfall that you must see. 

Must Go-To

Gorgeous campsite with multiple loops. Many hikes nearby with back country camping options. Lots of great waterfalls as well. Obviously we were there during a down pour, many camp sites were soggy! Nice shelters available for back country camping as well.

Beeeautiful old growth campground

We stayed here while exploring Olympic National Park and really enjoyed it! We stayed in loop A site 10\. The site was beautiful, under the trees and overlooking the water. We fit two tents at the site comfortably. Nobody occupied the adjacent two sites, but the were a little close together. There was a nice picnic table and fire ring. We were very close to the restrooms, which were clean. They did not have showers, but we were able to shower free at the Sol Duc resort about 5 minutes away. It is $15 if you want access to the hot springs and showers, but since we only wanted a shower, they didn't charge us. The Sol Duc Falls trailhead was about 5 minutes from the campground. Definitely worth seeing.

Beautiful campground

While all the campsites were a vit close on Loop A, we hardly even heard or noticed anyone. It was amazing to fall asleep with the Sol Duc river close by and a nice little hike to the Sol Duc falls simply made this camping weekend amazing!! It made the extreme cold that night so worth it.

Sol duc was beautiful

The highlight of Sol Duc was the long loop hike around the waterfalls. We were disappointed with the hot springs as they felt more like a crowded public pool than the wonder of nature that I'm sure they once were. We did enjoy the showers at the hot springs through after a very wet camping day.

The campground is pretty big (80+ sites I believe) and is quite spread out and booked out well in advance. You'll want to take note of the facilities are when you make your reservation. Bookings for the summer through October can be reserved beginning the end of April.

Good Base for Hiking and Hot Springs

Beautiful stay here on Loop B. It was a great place to stay, we would have stayed in a different site, we were in 060 and it was ok, but lots of passersby. Hiking was simple to find and the waterfalls were in plentiful supply. We had a small rodent stuck in the car for a bit, so I wouldn't recommend setting up camp while your car doors remain open. Amateur move for sure. The bathrooms were clean too. Reserve with confidence.

Lush and majestic

We went there first of October. $30 to get inside the park but if you have a America beautiful pass for $80 it’s good for a year. In the RV area with electric hook ups is more like a parking lot Loop b is pretty much tents only.  Loop a there are a few decent size sites 14-19 but you better have  reservations. It’s $25 a night for the campground. The hike to the falls is nice and not too bad or long. 

Nice place 

Very secluded campground deep in the forest near the hot springs resort. The RV sites are literally a gravel parking lot with people parked around the edges. Not bad, but be aware and trailer your expectations. The two tent loops are much nicer, much more nestled in the trees. Small campers and truck campers can fit in many of the tent sites, at the expense of no hookups. Little to no cell service, and no WiFi - perfect for disconnecting from the world.

We stayed in RV site 001 which is the smallest of all the RV sites, our truck camper barely fit. Next time we’d go for one of the tent loops. Lovely area!

Great spot in the woods - 3 stars for the RV sites, 4 for the tents

The pools are well maintained ($15 to get in), there’s locker rooms with showers and there’s also a diner. Down the road there’s a short 1 mile hike to the falls!

Always amazing!

Giving three stars is subjective, but I can't give it a higher rating for RV camping because of how tight the spaces are.  The park itself it worthy of 5 stars easily! The RV lot is really crowded.  You do have a picnic table and fire-ring, but the next one is 15 feet away. At times it can feel like you are at an RV rally being held in a Wal-Mart parking lot.  Before you drive your rig in here, I highly recommend you drive up the road about 50 yards and park in the dump-station lot, then walk back and scout out where your spot is and if you have a clear path to park.  All spaces require backing in and you will often have to ask someone to move their vehicle so you will have enough room to manuever. If you look up Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort on Google Maps and do the Satellite view, you can see the RV campground directly across the river from the pool at the hot springs (they are within easy walking distance to each other).  I've also attached two parking lot pictures. 

Here are some pros and cons and you can decide for yourself:

Pros:  Olympic National Park is absolutely beautiful, and there is so much to see for everyone.  There are several hikes that are easy enough for almost everyone (Rain Forrest, Sol Duc Falls, etc.), and several that are just nice by car.  Of course there are a lot of options for serious backpackers.  The Hot Springs are open (as of May 2021) and you can reserve a time for them every day you are staying in the RV spaces. The park is absolutely beautiful and to see everything requires a lot of driving, so you can use your spot here as a base camp.  The Sol Duc Falls are a relatively easy hike and are nearby.  No matter what campground you stay at in Olympic National Park, be prepared to drive a lot to see other parts of the park.  The hot springs are nice, relaxing, and you can reserve a spot when it is not overly crowded as they have reservation times for RV campers. Also, despite the very crowded campground, most people were very nice and cooperative, and things quite down around 10PM each night.  The dump station I mentioned above is also open. 

Cons:  The RV spacing is very minimal.  We have an Escape19 trailer (no pop-outs) and when we extended our awning, there was about two or three feet left before it encroached on the RV space next door.  One experienced camper pulled in next to us so that when he extended his pop-out it went half-way over the log separating the two spaces.  There are NO RV spaces in any of the nearby campgrounds at Sol Duc, so if you have an RV and want to camp at Sol Duc, this is where you are going to camp.  Also, if your electrical outlet is not working, check with the desk at the Hot Springs as they apparently fail sometimes due to the air from the hot springs.  They were very prompt at fixing our outlet.  The hot springs emit a sulfur odor just like you would experience around an active volcanic area like volcanoes national park in Hawaii.  

Bottom line is the park is awesome and if this is the only RV space you can get, or if the hot springs are very important to you, then by all means stay here. I had a difficult time finding any detailed information about the campground on-line so I just want to make this info available so people are not surprised when they arrive.

RV Spaces are Tight!

One of the most spectacular campsites I've stayed at, nestled into the giant rainforest trees. I stayed there with a group of friends in Loop A. The sites look a bit close together but feel quite far apart with all the tree and ground cover. Facilities were pretty basic, but we sprung for $15 to head over to the hot springs resort for a dip and a shower.

  

 It's an easy hike to Sol Duc Falls, and a good entry-point for longer hikes up to the Seven Lakes basin. We day-hiked to Deer Lake and I've added that to the list of back-country sites to come back for!

Amazing campground under the giants!

It’s nicer than camping in a parking lot. The surrounding woods are wonderful. There’s a trail to an amphitheater and an easy walking path to the hot springs 

Proximity to Hot Springs

Beautiful but busy area. The sites were laid out weird, with little to no privacy between sites. There was no river access from the campground which was unfortunate. The resort itself was so busy and did not look peaceful to soak in. We spent most of our days exploring the park and the coast. It is nice that it is close to the falls but they are also very busy. Long drive back to civilization. I have stayed at much better campgrounds in Washington, and was a bit disappointed by this one.

Weird Layout - Very touristy

This campsite is a great established site with lots of space and walking distance from the lovers lane trail head and the sol doc hot springs. Make sure to do both! This site is also near crescent lake, so it’s a great place to stay if trying to do both! Bathrooms were standard. There are showers at the hot springs as well as a little store. 

Great campground!

Three separate camping areas. The RV park is tightly packed with full hookups, dump site down the road. Loops A and B are dry sites with restroom buildings and water spigots. The camping loops are quiet, nestled in the woods with good campfire rings and tables. B55 was great for a smaller camper, our Aliner Ranger fit great with the tow vehicle perpendicular. Some of the sites accommodated larger Airstreams, while some just a car with tent areas away from parking. Overall awesome spot.
