## Overview

 Pioneer Park Campground is located in northeast Washington on the Pend Oreille River. Visitors enjoy hiking, fishing, boating and swimming. The campground\'s proximity to the city of Newport provides urban entertainment opportunities as well.
## Recreation

 The Pioneer Park Heritage Trail, a short trail that highlights the history of the Kalispel Tribe, is a favorite attraction in the campground. Twelve interpretive displays are dispersed along the 0.3-mile boardwalk trail, which boasts scenic views of the river below. Excellent bass and trout fishing can be found in the Pend Oreille River. A boat ramp, picnic shelter and swimming area are located on-site.
## Facilities

 Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and tent pad. Amenities include vault toilets and drinking water. Gravel parking spurs can accommodate any RV size.
## Natural Features

 The campground is surrounded by groves of ponderosa pine, white pine, hemlock and grand fir trees, and sits at an elevation of 2,000 feet. Campsites are spacious and shady, with an understory of wild roses and thimbleberry. Pioneer is situated at the southern edge of Colville National Forest, near the Idaho border. The forest spans 1.1 million acres and encompasses the Okanogan, Kettle River and Selkirk Mountain Ranges. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The city of Newport is conveniently close for a restaurant outing or summer entertainment. Children will enjoy the Little People\'s Park in town.

Pioneer Park

We chose to try out this park for the long Memorial weekend. The river had some significant flooding that made for ridiculous amounts of mosquitoes. The campground itself was smaller with only 17 sites, but it was very woodsy! The boat launch area was nice and the beach area looked promising. Besides the torture of the never ending mosquito bites this would have been a nice location. We, along with numerous other campers, didn’t make it thru the whole weekend sadly. Those mosquitoes won this round, but we will be back. 

flooding made for a poor trip

Pioneer Park was not where we made our reservations but the original campground closed to to fallen trees in a wind storm. So, they moved us here and it wasn't too bad. It didn't seem like a busy campground and the hosts were friendly. The sites were pretty private and there were vault bathrooms. What more could you ask for, right? It was a nice central location. We went to Silverwood one day and explored the area the others. The campground had access to a river that was fit for swimming. There was a waterfall near by, a grotto, and some caverns with a trail that took you to Canada. Overall it was a good experience.

Nice small dry camping campground with spacious sites. Several vault toilets on site that were very clean. Campground right on the river. Nice camp host! Sites large enough to accommodate our 31 foot Toy Hauler. 

Nice Campground

Beautiful little campground. Quiet during week but quite busy on weekend. Sites are huge and well spaced. Very convenient to Newport and sad point only 1/2 hr away. River access from campground. Beautiful quiet area. Firewood for sale at campground but cheaper down the road. Many outdoor recreation opportunities.
