Paradise Point State Park Campground

Great state park with all the usual amenities: fire pits, trees, ranger station. It's basically two different types of campgrounds in one: there's the sites more out in the open that are closer to the freeway. Then there's a bunch further away in both a meadow and the woods. Obviously if possible, stay away from the freeway. Down at the day use area (which has a nice small beach) the sound was so loud it was hard to hear people talking just a few feet away.

Lots of hiking including a nice trail between the campground and the day use area. Firewood available. Spots for both camps and trailers including electric and water hookups. Nice staff/rangers available for questions. Walk-in spots are cheapest and many are further away from the freeway. Very clean overall.

Nice State Park. Stay Away from Freeway.

This is a great campground if you are looking for a place that has easy off/on from the freeway. Located just a few miles north of Ridgefield's amphitheater it might be handy for someone coming to a concert or just needing a place to set up camp on their way somewhere. This isn't really a destination campground as much as it is a passthrough. That said, there are some hike in spots that are fairly easy to get to that might be fun for the kids. 

The disc golf course is entertaining, but not super challenging. Located on barely 10 acres the designers have done a good job using every bit of theland here. If you are wondering why each basket is set in an above ground block of concrete, it was to avoid doing archeological and wildlife surveys that would have been necessary if the development had included digging up the soil. Hole one is a fun one that plays under a freeway overpass.

Totally agree with the other campers - this is RIGHT off a busy interstate highway, the anti-nature. The orchard sites are 50-100 feet further away from the noise than the other half of the grounds. I grew up near a freeway, so I could do this, but it certainly wouldn't be a top choice and it wouldn't be good for the lungs - they say you need to live at least 100 yards away from a busy street. But there are nice amenities, including a recommended swimming hole on the Lewis River, disc golf, volleyball, decent campsites, lots of places for kids to explore, open spaces, views east and sort of a gateway stop to a lot of picturesque locations.

Before we headed up to Paradise Point State Park I read several other reviews that complained about how loud this campground was, but also balanced it out with the pretty trees and nice beach. It's close enough to Portland I thought it was still worth a try. But I had no idea how loud it really was. I tried to take a video but it doesn't quite capture the noise. It's so loud, especially in the day-use area and in the camp sites right up against the I-5 freeway, that you can't hear what someone is saying five feet away, even if they are shouting.

That said, the campground is beautiful, especially the spaces further away from the road that are surrounded by large trees or in the meadow area, and the day-use area does have a small beach on the river (more of a drive away from the campground than a quick walk). The beach is right under the freeway however, with a constant thump-thump, thump-thump of cars going over the bridge. Overall, there's other, better Washington campgrounds I'd try first.

SO Loud, but nice trees

The Lewis River is awesome. But when we normally go on the river we’re closer to Battle Ground. This campground could be a decent place, but our concern there is when you go camping, it was just too close to the freeway. The traffic noise wasn’t an issue, it was more of a concern about who might show up in the middle of the night from how close it was to the freeway. The River, while it’s pretty, most of the spots you drop down into the river pretty fast, so it’s not a place where you’d hang out, though we didn't make it all the way to the day-use area.

As others have said, the freeway traffic noise  is constant. If you can deal with that and sites being a little on the pricey side, this is a nice stopover canp.

I wouldn’t spend several days here, but it was convenient to our route, pretty,sites are pretty big, it’s clean and the phone service is good.

Summary:
We reserved the last site of the walk-ups and are very happy with our choice. It’s the last site on a trail leading to a seasonal waterfall and riverbank where we are paddleboarding, floating, and swimming for the day. Weather and bugs turned out amazing and we feel so spoiled by this spacious, private campsite that feels far away but is only 1000 feet from the car (and society). If you do reserve a walk-up site make sure you bring some kind of cart! So glad our cooler was on wheels. As an occasional backpacker I would call this glamping since there’s tons of cell service and so many amenities. 


Close but not far away

We are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. We were visiting family in the Vancouver and the CG is only about 20 minutes away. The CG is clean and well cared for, but as mentioned previously, most of the water/electric sites are only about 100 yards from I-5 and there is a lot of road noise, day and night, even our white noise machine could not overcome the road noise. The addition of a sound barrier wall along the highway the length of the campground would mitigate the noise considerably. The sites were not completely level, but we’ve been many that were much worse. AT&amp;T coverage good, ranging from 2-3 Bars of LTE/5G with speeds up to 6 MB/s. We were able to get DISH coverage on some of the satellites at our site. There were 14 OTA channels to be had with our fixed omni antenna.

Nice CG, but very close to I-5

Even though the campground was full, and it's very close to the interstate, it was still quiet and enjoyable.  The walk along the river is very nice, and we had fun at the frisbee golf course.

Beautiful river side campground

The camp spots were very close together with not much privacy, a lot of spots just had a log to divide it from the next spot over. Luckily there wasn't many people there so no one was next to us. Campfires were not allowed due to burn restrictions so that was kind of bummer but no one's fault. The restrooms had running water and were super clean so that was nice too! As far as a state park goes however this one was kind of lacking. It is literally right off a major highway near an industrial area . Super noisy from the highway at all times even throughout the night. There were also people walking around super late at night which kind of creeped  me out. Probably just using the restroom, but still, flashlights were shown on my tent several times, it was uncomfortable. That's not the campsites fault however. Overall an OK place to spend a night on a long roadtrip. There were yellow jackets everywhere too, it was really difficult to feed the doggos without getting attacked .
