Hozomeen Campground - North Cascades National Park — Ross Lake National Recreation Area

2020 is an off year for this site, as it is mostly an RV site, and with the COVID 19 restrictions no RV’s can pass through Canada to get there. That was awesome for us tho, because we got there in Kayaks, so we had the whole place to ourselves. The site is rather unused at the moment tho, so a bit overgrown. The mosquitos in 2020 were ferocious, but in other years they have been light. Prepare for the worst as far as insects go. Swimming, kayaking and pretty much anything on the water is beautiful in the surrounding waters. Really a beautiful site, as we even had a full moon that night. Tough to get to, but absolutely worth it. Like so much of Ross Lake, bathroom facilities were new and amazing, potable water readily available, boat dock was new, plenty of places to beach a kayak if dock was full.

Highly recommend the North Cascades. One of my favorite places to visit. Recently my husband and I took a week long trip touring the North Cascades, camping and hiking. The hiking is incredible and the views are breathtaking. We stayed here for 1 night and it was everything we needed. Picnic table and fire ring at every site, which is always handy for sitting and eating! We had some epic s’mores filled with marshmallows and Reese’s peanut butter cups! We got up early the next morning to hike, and that definitely didn’t disappoint. Incredible is all I have to say! Best hiking I’ve ever done, hands down. Campground has bathroom on site- we brought our own TP which was smart because they ran out of toilet paper when we were there! They are sort of the portapotty ones, just FYI. SUPER smelly. Overall, liked it here and wish we could have stayed longer.

I spent several weeks in the North Cascades mostly backcountry camping in over a dozen locations, however, I spent my final night (of 40) at this campground on Ross Lake. It was October and the campground was essentially empty of guests other than our small group.

Our site was beautiful and bathed in the light of an incredibly bright full moon. The site was large enough for several large tarps and a Black Diamond Beta-Mid. There were picnic tables, fire rings with grills and bear boxes at each site in the campground. The ground was mostly covered in a carpet of earth tone leaves as fall was settling in.

There are several hiking options within this area and they are marked with signs and reflect mileage in both miles and kilometers (you are practically in Canada after all). You can cross the Canadian boarder here and there is a small boarder shack, though no one was on duty during my visit.

The amenities are bare in the fall months, but it was still an awesome spot to stay.
