## Overview

 Kalaloch Campground is on the reservation system May 23, 2024 - September 23, 2024.\_\_ Important changes to the reservation booking windows: To better serve visitors, Kalaloch Campground will be releasing campsites in a series of three staggered block releases by loop. These block releases will be 6 months in advance, two weeks in advance, and 4 days in advance.\_\_ A and B loop campsites will be available for reservation 6 months in advance. Campsites A14, A16, A18, and A19 will currently not be reservable due to substantial bluff erosion. If these sites are deemed safe for camping after assessment or repairs, they will be released for online reservations within the 6 month booking window. This can be as late as spring of 2024.\_\_ C and D loop campsites will be available for reservations two weeks in advance. Please be aware that D Loop has experienced substantial erosion damage to the road and campsites along the ocean bluff. It is possible some popular bluff sites may be closed for the summer 2024 reservation season. E and F loop campsites will be available for reservations 4 days in advance.\_\_ During the rest of the year, it is on a first-come, first-served basis. During winter (November - April), some campground loops are closed, but camping is still available.\_\_ Kalaloch Campground is located on the southwest coast of the Olympic Peninsula in Olympic National Park, on a high bluff adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. Although campsites are not directly on the beach, several of them overlook the water and there is beach access within the facility. The campground is large and set amidst a peaceful, coastal forest that thrives on the region\'s high annual rainfall. Rain or shine, it is one of the most visited areas of the park. 
## Recreation

 Near the campground and lodge, trails and steps descend about 40 ft. to the beach. There are several beaches, tide pools, scenic overlooks and trails to explore. The Kalaloch Creek Nature Trail is a mile-long walk through the forest along Kalaloch Creek, which drains into the ocean. There are accessible lookout points at Ruby Beach and Beach 4.Kalaloch is known for birding; species such as western gulls and bald eagles are frequently sighted. Visitors may even spot a puffin. Fishing and shellfish harvesting is allowed under state and park regulations.Swimming is possible, however the Kalaloch area is known for large drifting logs that can pose a threat to swimmers as they wash ashore. Swimmers should also be aware of potentially dangerous rip tides. 
## Facilities

 Kalaloch Campground is a large facility with 160 campsites, including one group site and four accessible sites. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring. Food lockers and drinking water are available at campground loop restrooms. There are no hook-ups at this facility, though a dump station is available for a $10 fee ($5 with a Senior or Access Pass) and is not included in the camping fee. The nearest shower facility is 28 miles away (Bogachiel State Park). Campers can purchase firewood and other goods nearby at Kalaloch Mercantile. 
## Natural Features

 Kalaloch has no shortage of natural areas to explore. The Pacific shoreline just below provides ample habitat for marine life: tide pools reveal crabs and sea urchins at low tide; sea otters float on the surface of submerged kelp beds; shorebirds nest on beaches; and whales and dolphins occasionally emerge offshore. Beyond the national park\'s 73 miles of coastline lie three national wildlife refuges and one marine sanctuary. 
## Nearby Attractions

 Olympic National Park has much to explore, including temperate rain forests, ocean shores, sub-alpine mountains, lakes and more. The lush Hoh Rain Forest, as well as the towns Quinault and Forks are within a 45-minute drive.[Visiting the Hoh Rain Forest][1][Olympic National Park][2]

Kalaloch Campground - group — Olympic National Park

We we surprised to be able to find a walk-in site here in August -- perhaps it helped that it was a rainy weekday and there had been some fires in parts of the park at the same time.

The campground is busy, but the view from the cliffside makes you forget all the other campers around you. When it stops raining, the stars over the ocean are pretty magical.

The camp shop just down the street - near the Kalaloch lodge was pretty well stocked including beer, wine and coffee. You can also hit up the lodge for a breakfast or dinner, if you're in need of a meal that you don't have to cook on your campstove or fire -- especially handy if you get hit with the rain.

The Stars were Amazing ...When it wasn't raining

We stayed at campsite c-15.  It was really big with tons of logs for my kids to climb and had creek access as well.  Some of the other sites were pretty tiny so we really got lucky with this site.  It's a short walk to the beach or evening program as well.  Not much road noise and it was well shaded under the trees.  That being said it did rain while we were there so because of the tree cover it didn't dry very well either.  Not a negative - just something to be prepared for.  Many of the beach adjacent sites are not shaded and subjected to the ocean winds.  There was minimal road noise and you could hear the ocean at night!.  Only thing that would make it better would be showers!

Kalaloch

First off, let me say that I'm definitely no stranger to campgrounds filling up quickly. I frequently camp in Zion and Arches, and those campgrounds fill up super fast- but NOTHING fills up faster than the beach access sites at Kalaloch. We camped there on a Tuesday night in August (so summer, but not a weekend) and of the 8-10 beach access sites that were available when I looked the night before I booked (six months in advance), every single one of them was gone when I got on within 10 minutes of reservations going live. It was INSANE. So I had to scramble, and booked a couple of sites next to each other (since we were camping with a group that was too large for a single campsite). I've never experienced anything quite like the speed with which this campground filled up. If you want a beach access campsite, I would definitely recommend being right on time and being ready to go!
One disclaimer I should give is also that I didn't spend an extraordinary amount of time in this campground. We arrived pretty late at night (in the dark, around 10pm) and left early-ish in the morning (around 830/9). and didn't have much time to explore around the campground. So my review might not be the most complete, but I'll give it based on the knowledge that I have.
My biggest complaint (which is a common-ish one for me, but this campground was the worst I've experienced) was that the tent area was absolutely rock hard. I'm by no stretch of the imagination an incredibly strong woman, but I really struggled to get the stakes into the ground for our tent. In a wet coastal environment where you want to stay dry, staking out your tent and fly is important, and it was really frustrating trying to get those dang stakes into that hard ground, especially in the dark.
Another small gripe, that may have been magnified by the fact that we had just stayed in the very secluded Newhalem Campground in the North Cascades the night before, was that the campsites we stayed in (A055 and A056) were pretty much right on the side of the road though the campground. We essentially parallel parked, and set up our tents maybe 15 feet from the road. The sites were a little small (in fact one member of our group sneaked farther back into the bushes to set up his tarp and sleeping pad in a little more seclusion and space) and being right along the road definitely made at least those sites not a place I'd want to relax in. This is likely one campground where the site you're in can make or break your experience. 
My last small gripe is going to sound outrageously vain, but the bathrooms were a little small, there was only one sink, and the only mirror was above the sink. I like to have a mirror to make sure my face is clean and my hair looks decent, but I don't necessarily need a sink. When I went to the bathroom in the morning a woman spent almost 15 minutes standing in front of the only mirror, washing her face and doing her hair. It would've been nice to have had another mirror so she didn't "hog" the sink and the only mirror.
The GOOD THINGS about this campground are the accessibility to the amazing beach, nice paved roads (so no dust), and lots of greenery. The air felt very fresh and clean here, and it was a cool experience for those of us from the desert to sleep in a place with so much green! The bathrooms were also very clean (if small) and the campground's directions were straightforward and clear.

Close to the Beach, But Fills Outrageously Fast

We stayed here only for one night because of the rain we left several days early. We had hoped to visit Olympic Nat'l Park and go hiking. During our short visit at Kalaloch, we enjoyed playing on the beach and playing under the roots of a famous tree cave. There are lots of sites - no hookups, restrooms with no shower facilities and a pay dump station. Some sites overlook the water but there is a steep drop to get down to the beach.

Wish it would stop raining.....

Loved this place! We visited for our 2nd wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. Amazing views! Salty air and were put to sleep by the sound of waves every night. Be prepared to reserve your spot 6 months in advance and there is no guarantee on good weather. Happy adventuring!!

The wild beaches of Kalaloch 

These campsites fill up quickly! Although there are rougly 170 sites at this location, only a handful have ocean views. If you want one with an ocean view, get there early. Be warned, though, driftwood can wash up and leave your site a little messy. There was quite a bit of driftwood floating around when I was trying to swim. If the water had been any rougher it would've been dangerous to swim near it.

There are flush toilets on the campground and sites have a picnic table as well as fire ring. You cannot collect driftwood for your fire. You'll have to either purchase it at the ranger station or a convenience store.

The Hoh Rain Forest is about a 45 minute to an hour drive away. However, if that's your primary reason for visiting, there are closer campgrounds available.

Ocean front camping!

I loved our night at Kalaloch Campground.

As we made our way up Highway 101, we were able to get a last minute reservation at Kalaloch for the night (which apparently can be rare).

It is about 11 minutes south of Ruby Beach (photos!) and has immediate beach access as well. There are fire pits, picnic tables, potable water and restrooms. No showers however. Its a pretty decent sized campground with over 160 campsites. No cell service at all which is good and bad (depending on if you need to to find the place!)

One of the only campsites on the west coast of Washington that is technically part of/near Olympic National park. We loved it!

Beauty near the beach

Beautiful location. Lush and green private sites with easy access to the beach. Lots of logs and features. This place is stunning! 

Prepare for rain as it will likely still rain in the summer with cooler evenings. 

This is an older campground so the bathrooms are older but they are flush toilets. No showers at this campground. 



Classic Pacific Northwest Coastal Camping!! 

I really enjoyed the it there and the view of the beach is beautiful. Camping was great was only there to set up a hammock and get back on the road. Lots of lighthouses around to check out and hiking. The outcroppings in the ocean are so neat, the water was a bit chilly and it was misty in the mornings and evening down by the beach. This part of the country is so interesting, Never a dull minute. 

The PNW Rocks

The group site at Kalaloch is amazing!  It's no where near the rest of the campground.  There is a gated road that leads you to your private site!  Large enough for big groups, and plenty of space to spread out. It's right on a cliff overlooking the ocean so the views are incredible. It's hard to get a reservation in the summer months, but well worth planning ahead to secure this site!

This place is beautiful and it rains a lot....because it is a rain forest.  But seriously why do we not have showers at incredibly popular National Parks.  It is embarassing.  Canada has free hot showers and awesome amenities/facilities.  We have 30 year old restroom facilities.  Also why are we not locking up the garbage better here?  Animals in the dumpsters...come on guys!  

Insane-o!

Right in the Olympic National Park this place is classic. It always has a bit of a gloomy haze even when the sun is shinning. It's stunning and mysteriously beautiful. 

Hiking... tide exploring... 

There are only 50 sites in this campground which means you can reserve and actually get a spot and once you get here it's not to over crowded. 

Pacific Northwest Camping at its BEST 

My stay was fantastic!!! Very nice camping in a fairly sheltered area. A lot of tree coverage. Good bathrooms. nnot showers, but you wake up and the beach is right there. Fan tactic sunrise and sunset on the ocean!

Phenomenal Camping.

This campground is so slammed during the summer camping season that I usually do not get around to going. When half the loops close down for the off season is another story. There are some great spots along the beach, with in a stones throw from the Pacific Ocean. The bathrooms are clean, the showers have great hot water and it is mostly empty off season. 
The tree covered park is a great place to unwind when needing a nature recharge while away from the city! I love the beach and spend most of my time camping here wondering around in the sand looking for treasures or taking pictures. I usually try to plan a trip with my other VW friends. We share stores of the road, meals made over the fire, our love for Westfalia campers and a cold beer or two.
The area has some great sight seeing, beach coaming, great little restaurants, hiking trails and long slow winding roads that call out to me. I make plans to visit at least 4 times a year and I'm never disappointed! I highly recommend this campground if on the Washington coast!

Love the off season

absolutely amazing campground, you will feel like you're in narnia! Definitely book this campsite early so you can get a beachside site. you will literally have an oceanview as your background for your stay.

Kalaloch - site F002 + A069

We loved our cabin and the cozy restaurant/gift shop. It was always quiet and staff was very friendly. We loved it here and the beach offered great tidal pools!

Wonderful few days

We arrived really late and the campground was unfortunately full. It was 11pm so we drove around anyway. Lucky for us someone with reservations didn't show so we got an amazing spot with a fantastic view of the ocean. Spots are close together but have natural barriers in between them. Our site had a fire ring and a picnic bench. The beach is clean and fantastic for walking our dogs. My only complaint was that the camp hoast was fairly rude. Other than that we loved it.

Amazing ocean view 

Beautiful campground! We were here in Oct so several loops were closed and there was no host. The campground still filled up though. Right off the highway but you can't really hear the traffic noise because of the sound of the ocean. Easy access to the beach and ocean. Nice bathrooms, water available.

Fantastic spot!

Be prepared. Kalaloch is beautiful. In the morning there is a mist that comes in from the Pacific and shrouds the rocks strewn about the beach in mystery. We figured that if we were camping in July near the Pacific the water would be warm, it was not. My children enjoyed playing near the water's edge and building sand castles. We hiked on the beach. We visited Forks. We explored the rainforest. Everything in our camp became damp over the week. We got lucky when we went to Seattle that we had a span of several dry days and we dried out our ground cloth, tent and rain fly.

Mysterious and Wet

I visited during October and there were a fair amount of people camping here. Mostly RVs and campers due to the storm that happened to be coming through that night. I will say that the water drained perfectly from our campsite throughout a rough storm which is a huge plus. We were able to visit Olympic National Park easily throughout the duration of our stay.

On the edge of the coast, and a quick drive away from Olympic National Park

As the only reservable camping in Olympic NP, set your alarm in order to reserve because they go fast. Sites open for booking 6 months in advance. There are multiple loops, but our favorite is the beach loop with views of the Pacific over the bluff. We've seen bald eagles up close and the most amazing sunsets. It's great for kids with easy trails to the lodge or further to a small ranger station. Easy driving to Ruby Beach or a day trip in Hoa Rainforest. Plan for rain because it's on the coast, but don't be surprised by unexpected sunshine.

Big campsites, nice trails and beach sites!

Great ocean views! 

Be prepared for cold and fog. Bonus if you get some sunny days. Very difficult to get a walk-in on the weekends. Most sites are small. Not very private as they are somewhat close together. Sites are level. Lots of shade. Bathroom were old. Good Verizon service.

Just okay

Kalaloch along with South Beach are the only places to camp on the southern coast of Olympic National Park. Kalaloch is open year-round, and has 175 campsites, four of which are wheelchair accessible. Make sure to reserve a site as early on in the year as possible, as they fill up quickly and most are booked throughout the summer.

what is there to do.....Recreation:
Hiking the southern coast of the Olympic Peninsula provides some amazing sights of the pristine beaches and marine wildlife. North of Ruby Beach, the Hoh River creates a natural boundary. 

Kalaloch is a great place for bird watching. Western gulls, bald eagles, and other coastal birds can be spotted nesting and feeding along the southern coast. Beach 4 is an excellent location to tidepool looking for seastars, and anemones of various colors can be seen at low tiedes. Also if you love rocks and drift wood, this is the place for you! 

Absolutely beautiful.  The Living Tree is a must see. Bathrooms are clean and campsites are well kept.  Ocean front campsites are wonderful! There is a campstore with all the necessities.

love this campground. been going here for a few years now with more to come. 

Ocean views, quick stroll to the beach, clean campgrounds and bathrooms. Could it get any better? This was my top favorite campground I’ve been to and will definitely return!

Peaceful lush campgound

Nestled between the highway and the ocean, this park is five stars for location, but three stars for the disparity in sites and limited bathroom facilities. But you can’t beat the price($11 with a senior lifetime pass or$22 without). Not all sites are created equal. There are six loops(A-F) and if you can score one with an ocean view in Loops A, D, E, or F), you are lucky(refer to the photo below to see which are the best sites). I reserved three months in advance(this is one of I believe two Olympic National Park campgrounds that are reservable) but the closest I could get was to hear the ocean, but two sites away from a view. That’s ok because I love falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. I also did not realize when reserving that our site(A9) was a handicapped site. The ranger assured us this was not a problem. It was an awkward site in that the picnic table was located very close to the parking space(and could not be moved). Additionally, I think it would be difficult for a handicapped person to navigate getting out of a vehicle to the site, given the concrete parking barriers. Some of the sites are very dark, some not quite level, and some in the A loop are right next to the highway and guaranteed to hear road noise. Supposedly many of the sites do not accommodate large RVs but I saw many (Our site, A9 would NOT accommodate a large RV). I cannot speak about the other bathrooms but in the A loop, there were only two stalls and one sink. No soap dispenser and only cold water. However, I only saw someone else in the bathroom once during our two- night stay. No showers or hookups but that is typical for national park campgrounds. There is a dump station for an additional charge. The best part about this park is the location: easy access to miles of gorgeous walkable beach. Nearly non-existent cell service (Verizon); every once in a while, we’d get a burst of service, but it would not last.

Great ocean location!

Really loved camping here and being right on the coast. We had a fairly large site that had a decent amount of privacy, which was tucked back in the woods, but we could still hear the ocean. There are many sites that directly overlook the ocean, but I noticed those were much windier than those tucked back in the trees. Also keep in mind many of the sites in the campground are quite small, many of which looked like they could only accommodate a single tent. The site I was in luckily fit 2 tents easily. The campground features flush toilet bathrooms, water spigots, and dish washing areas. Be sure to take the trails that lead down to the beach, and you can even have a bonfire on the beach if you want! Overall this was one of my favorite places to camp!

Awesome camping on Olympic Coast

Most campsites are woven in amongst old growth rainforest trees. Bathrooms are basic, no showers. Water spigots at bathrooms. Tent, rv camping allowed with some sites on the beach bluff overlooking the ocean. $22 for tent camping comes with fire ring and picnic table. There is a general store .5 miles away at the lodge.

Rainforest camping above the beach

This natural setting is beyond words. Otherworldly, the edge of civilization, windswept, utterly fresh. Campsites and bathrooms are fine, just, as if not to compete with the view.  There are no hookups, but who cares when you are literally in paradise?  The beach is like a dream.  Wished so much that we had more time to explore...

The campground was chuckabluck full.  We came at about 3:30 to see if there were any cancelled sites available on a first-come-first-served basis.  I got in line, as the registration booth said “back at 5:15”.  Soon there was a crowd waiting.  Everyone was tense at first due to the competition for the unknown, but very friendly and encouraging.  

Then, a miracle happened: a woman walked up to the crowd and said, “Are you all looking for a site for one night?  I have ten pre-paid sites that were for my wedding guests - we got married here yesterday - does anyone want one?”  We all raised our hands in utter shock, and she began doling out these free sights.  

**(Christina, I came by your campsite that evening to thank you with a nice bottle of Port, but you had already left.  I hope you read this, you really blessed us!  We will never forget your kindness and generosity!  Congratulations on your wedding, in such a magical spectacular setting!)** 

We will definitely return as often as possible to this amazing place.  (With reservations next time!)

Unique in the world.

I stayed in this campground mainly because I wanted to be near the beach, but also due to the easy of booking the site online. Traveling solo, booking in advance really helps. I was directly across the street(in the campground) from the beach. I could hear the sound of the waves all the time from my site. The campground was very clean, and spread out for the most part. The other sites were very visible from mine, but it wasn't a bother. The bathrooms, while there were no showers were very well kept, and maintained. The trails from the campground to hike around in were a little confusing, but still really nice once you got on the actual trail. The Kalaloch Lodge which was just down the road provided a much needed scenic breakfast to me on my last morning there.  I would most definitely stay here again should I return to the PNW.

Across form the beach

Very nice campground, right on the beach, but each campsite is nicely separated by trees and well kept forest growth. After a little climb over some driftwood there was a lot of beach to explore at low tide. Also an excellent place to watch the sunset. 

Awsome Ocean-Side Campground

We were lucky enough to book an oceanfront site after weeks of trying. It was definitely worth the effort! Easily our all time favorite place to camp. Gorgeous area, amazing beach. Clean bathrooms.

We love it here. Gorgeous views and fires on the beach. Reserve early and know that even in July it will be chilly, but we love it here even when it’s cold.

I camped Kalaloch the second week of July 2020.  It was amazing.  Here are some pointers:

  

It's pronounced Ka-LAY-loch.  It's derived from the Native Quinault meaning "easy place to land" - as in "beach with no rocks".  It's not Scottish Highlands, though it sounds like it.

  

I made advance reservations on the Recreation.gov website which illustrated this is one of the most difficult-to-land campground reservations in the country.  Still, even at late notice, there are cancellations.  I could only find single nights at different campsites which meant I had to move (tent camping) every day but it gave me a good overview.  Highs were 59 degrees but I didn't feel chilly; I think the sand holds heat.  

  

There is a walk-up cue line each morning in front of the rangers office in the parking lot starting about 9am taking a wait list for the current night.  First come, first served. They ask you to return about noon to see if you've made it in and pay.  Even though the campground was fully booked online they did manage to squeeze in a few each day.  Any later in the day and I'm not sure you would have made it in though it of course depends on the season.  Seven days max stays allowed and yes they do watch.  

  

Obviously, the oceanfront sites are the most in-demand and hardest to land.  People book (and pay) these months in advance and it is maddening to watch them sit empty overnight when the bookers don't show or cancel.  I would say about 50% of visitors (week I was there) used RV's of one size or another; great for avoiding bad weather.  Take a tarp to cover your tent in case of heavy rain.  Campsitephotos.com shows every site at Kalaloch which is great.  

  

The awesome beach is the star of the show, however.  Accessed by fairly easy stairs, the words huge, wild, immense, spectacular might be used for starters.  Even though the campground totally sold-out, I walked each day for miles without meeting others.  I would highly recommend walking all the way North to Brown's Point to explore; it's a long way and yes, it's worth it.  BE SURE TO READ TIDE TABLE posted on the board in the parking lot.  You need to round a few points to get to the good stuff and need to know the incoming tide schedule.  Plan in advance: DON'T round those points in an incoming tide. 

  

I thought the most northern camp ring (D Loop) the most appealing but they all are good.  Try to avoid camping closest to the highway, you will regret it.  The A loop teens are all terrific sites.  Camp rangers were friendly and kept place clean.  Lots of families and aural drama (of course) but you're there for the beach.  Walk South to the Lodge for ice cream cones in the general store (a mood-lifter).  World's largest pine tree north on the highway 101 amusing.  Ruby Beach was crowded with a steep trail and I opted for North Kalaloch areas.  Dogs must be on leashes on the beach.  Verizon service only on beach halfway out while standing on one foot...

  

Road to Forks long and twisty; no special need to go.  If Kalaloch is full, popular oceanfront South Beach (no reservations) might be avail but get there early.  Discuss ocean safety with your family and take seriously rip tides, floating logs (deadly), and dangers of not following tide tables.  Sneaker waves are known to randomly come high up on beach, especially during winter.  **Never turn your back on the ocean**.   

  

Enjoy this hugely-beautiful place where the solids turn to liquids.  It is ethereal and I've never seen such amazing sunsets: almost out-of-body experiences.  So glad it’s a National Park.  TuskPDX

Amazing Oceanfront Camping

We were lucky to get a spot without having a reservation (on a Tuesday). We checked in at the front desk by 11:00 am and got on the wait list. This campground has so many amazing campsites...especially those on the bluff, overlooking the ocean. Some of the best camping I’ve ever seen. Our site (A51) was in the forested area of the campground, so it was super private, and also close to the beach. This stretch of beach is awesome and fairly close to Ruby Beach, which we checked out one day. We loved our two days here

Can’t Ask for More

My wife was able to get a spot last minute so we added a day to our trip to head north before heading to the Oregon coast. This place is really worth the drive. The campground was very clean and most sports are private with some looking directly at the beach.  There were no rv hookups but we had our generator so it was no problem. The beach is so beautiful with tons of drift wood and amazing views the tree of life will not disappoint you. 

This place is awesome 

We make a point to camp here every summer.  The beach is gorgeous, wide open, and mostly empty.  There is room to play games, wander, find sand dollars, play in the water, or just lay on the sand and soak up the sun.  Watch the sunset every evening over the Pacific Ocean and then gaze at the stars from the dark beach.

  

Nearby is a small store with basics - firewood, some food, coffee, wine, and beer (to go).  This is by far our family's favorite campground even though the sites can be small and close together and are very hard to book in peak season.

We camped here one night in November(Monday before Thanksgiving) and there is no way we would have ever snagged the waterfront site we ended up with any other time of the year! We were in site D-31 which I think is probably the best site in the whole campground. It was perfect for us to park our Cricket on the little pull out off the campground road and face our site and then the ocean beyond. 

  

I would imagine I would like this campground a lot less during the busy summer season but it was perfect in November. Still quite a few campers there but not full by any means. 

  

The path down to the beach was just a few steps from our site. From there you can take long walks on the beach.

Beautiful Views, Busy Campground - Loved our Off Season Stay

Kalaloch is a magical place off the seaside, tucked back in a wooded forest that borders the beach. I love to both tent camp and use my travel trailer at this campground.

My kids bring their bikes and ride the camp ground. We take walks down to the beach. Go hiking in the nearby trails. I enjoy watching the eagles in the morning while drinking my coffee - I even saw an Eagle devour a seagull 😳. On a clear night the stars are beautiful... 

There’s a store down the road for treats, etc and you’ll find a gas station 5 miles away that’s ethanol free and they also can fill propane (more selection that the little store closer in). Highly suggest bringing a sufficient amount of wood as it’s 9-12$ a bundle. 

The best time to go to Kalaloch is off season due to how difficult it is to reserve a spot, to find a good spot (ocean front) you need to arrive during a weekday, but it’s still a dice roll. My favorite spots are D24 and D36. FYI for Sprint (now T-Mobile) There is little to no service here.

You can’t go wrong

This campground is located in a really nice location , surrounded by the ocean forest, higher than sea level , and all spots are a quick walk down to the sand. We had a pull in spot ,  there are small and large RV spots here also. Fire rings and clean restrooms on site, RV dump it looked like also. Another plus is that THE TREE OF LIFE is located right on this location.

Headed up to Kalaloch Thursday to beat the rush. Many others had the same idea. They opened more of A which is great but currently FCFS sites. This is always one of my favorite sites!

Tree of Life success 

Looking to get away from everything? This is your spot. Drive right in and pick a spot. Most spots on A row are pretty choice. We got there on a Wednesday and got a good spot on B. Although some opened up in A, on the bluff the next day. The farther south you go in the campsite you can pick up some internet service. Or do like my teenagers and do some “exploring” which means walk down the beach until you get enough service to download movies to watch that night. 😂   But I did have to Tie in to a zoom meeting and the gas station 10 minutes south had 4 bars of att. 
No hookups. Bathrooms were real clean most of the time. Went to the 🚽 one night and there was 💩 tracks from  👟 👟 not really sure what happened there. 
Surfed 🏄‍♂️ ruby beach, saw the big cedars, and the tree of life. Other than that mostly just reading and stoking the fire. Saw whales 🐋 too. 

Go south for internet 

Proximity to the beach makes this a necessary stop while exploring the Washington coast.

Highlight of the park

We stayed here tonight at the end of April 2021. The first night we got in late on a Monday and got a site in the woods on A loop. I was determined to have an oceanfront site, and in the morning, after checkout time, we moved to a different site on the cliff. We were fortunate to have dry weather while we were there and be able to see otters swimming in the ocean (through binoculars). We had a great campfire in the evening and watched the sunset. It wasn’t very crowded while we were there. Bathrooms were clean, water available. We had a great lunch at Kalaloch Lodge and took a day trip to Hoh Rainforest. ￼Campground pay is with credit cards online or post-dated if you don’t have access (I had a bar or so on the south side of the campground, nothing on the oceanfront side).

Beautiful spot!

This campground seems to bring out not so nice side of people. I had my campground that I paid for stolen two separate times by people even though my ticket stub was up on the board and I left a note on the picnic table saying it was taken. Both times I addressed the people in my spot and they lied straight to my face and saying they didn’t know it was taken, even though my ticket was up on the board. My note just happens to “disappear” each time. The camp host just told me to stay in the day use area which has excellent views of the beach compared to my wooded campground. So I ended up with the better deal. But ya, I guess it happens a lot, because camp host wasn’t even surprised. At other campgrounds I stayed at  on the peninsula, everyone was friendly and generally in a good mood, here not so much. I think the spot grab vibe gets people in a mood. ￼

Guard your spot (even if you pay for it) 

We preferred Kalaloch to Mora. The beach was gorgeous and access is super close. We camped in D32 and loved the site. Plenty of space and a nice wooded area for the kids to play.

Great views, beautiful spot

I lucked out and was able to grab a spot for one night only at Kalaloch. It was my first time there and I loved the tranquility of the forest coupled with the sound of the waves below the bluff. The spot I had was A0021, which faced the ocean but it was a teeny, tiny spot. I came with my two teens and we had two tents (a single and a double) and we were able to squeeze them into the spot, but it was tough to navigate between the two to get to the picnic table and fire pit. Nevertheless, we made do. Bit speaking of "do" or in this case "Doo" there was a lot of dog waste around our site and since it was hot and hadn't rained for a few days, the smell of dog pee was pretty strong.  The other downside was that none of the bathrooms were open and operational due to a power outage, so we (the entire campsite) had to trek over to the Kalaloch Lodge to use the facilities. Other than that, though, the place was really magical and seemingly quiet despite a packed campsite. I would definitely go back again if I could grab the spot across the way from us (it was three times larger), but I think that might take a lot of luck and patience since Kalaloch seems to fill up pretty fast. 

Beautiful location

This beach front campground is wooded and not really that private. It was hard to find a level spot for our van, but would be great for tenting. The camp host was super nice and we did some long walking along the beach. 

  

Kind of a unique check in system. You find the board that lists opening and put your registration form in the slot when you find a spot. Worked out pretty well. 

  

Ruby beach is nearby which is beautiful, but crowded.

Spent one night in loop F. Sites are small but well equipped. Several toilet, fresh water, and trash/dumping facilities. And three access points to the beach, absolutely breathtaking.

My campsite was nestle in the rainforest and even though I was close to my neighbors, it felt very secluded. The campgrounds are located near Kalaloch Lodge which has incredible dining at a reasonable price. Even better, it has a wonderful outdoor patio that overlooks the mouth of the HOH River where you can watch amazing sunsets or go explore beaches laden with driftwood the size of jetliners!! Be very careful though as driftwood this size can shift and be dangerous. Walk south down the beach and you’ll find the cabins, a gazebo and people flying kites or hanging around campfires on the beach. The drive north is beautiful and hugs the beaches. Explore them all but Beach No. 4 has the best tide pools full of sea life. It is imperative that you go while the tide is going out (Ebb Tide) as it is easy to get stranded out on the rocks when the tide comes in. Have a tide chart and know how to use it. This is an exciting place for children to explore. I guess I’m just a big kid. Ruby Beach is the next beach north and has incredible sea stacks. Continue driving north and the road turns inland and takes you to the HOH Rainforest. Hike The Hall of Mosses trail sprinkled with woodland poems and the Enchanted Valley up to the waterfalls. Driving south, visit Lake Quinault resort area with a plethora of things to do. This is a place with visiting again and again.

The best of everything!

Huge campground with most sites in a densely wooded area with one side facing the ocean. The spots overlooking the ocean were all taken or reserved. I believe reservations were required until 9/15/21 after that is first come, first served. The spots were pretty close together but the trees and general growth provided great privacy. There are multiple trails from the campground down to the beach. Great for sunset walks! A short drive to ruby beach, the big cedar tree and Forks. Clean flushing toilets with access to water. 

Best of Both Worlds 

Sites are fairly level with plenty of space. The reservation board is a bit unorganized. Not totally aware of what sites are and are not occupied. 
The area and amenities are nice with flush toilets. 

Great place 

Campground with lots of wonderful sites, some overlooking the ocean.  There is an open air theater for cultural events.
Site closing for season Nov. 1, so could not stay as I needed to cover a few more days for trip.
Was here end of October, and a few scattered campers, rvs etc.  But many wonderful open spaces.

See the Tree of Life

Park was closing for season on Nov 1, so ended up going elsewhere.
Nice sites, not extremely isolated sites, but good distance.
Can walk to beach, with several ladder banks down hillside to beach.  Also, the Tree of Life site is along Beach here.


Beautiful open, with views of the ocean

Awesome campground off season. Would probably be too busy for us during the high season but we were able to snag a spot right next to a beach path on the bluff overlooking the ocean for the Sunday/Monday leg of our trip this time. There are lots of view sites so try to get there early. Dogs are allowed on the beach so we spent a lot of time walking our two little ones. There are bathrooms (no showers), a dump station ($10 fee), and clean water spigots for your fresh water tank. Lots of wild life—look for the sea otters surfing the waves! This campground is easy to get to right off Hwy 101 and does not require forest road driving. Overall, a great trip!

Absolutely beautiful wooded setting that looks out on the ocean. Quiet, clean, peaceful.

Stunning ocean views !

Best part of this campground is the beach access. Amazing, beautiful beaches for miles and miles.  It is centrally located on the Olympic Peninsula which provides many hiking/exploring options within a few miles.  Campground is very crowded (summer).  We stayed in the D loop with a camper van, sites were small.  The forests helps with some privacy, but be prepared to have lots of people around.  Bathroom are super clean. Sunsets fantastic.  He easily visited the Hoh Rainforest from here, also had lunch at the nearby Kalaloch Lodge.  Small store there has basics and firewood.

Crowded but worth it

This is one of those few sites that I’d consider to have great beach access; you’re literally steps away. It’s dog friendly and there are tons of fun finds at low tides (especially sand dollars and driftwood, and of course unfortunate crabs). The Tree of Life is also worth a visit and some photos.

You are right between the beach and highway 101, but this stretch of the highway is quiet enough that road noise is not really a nuisance. The ocean was a more present feature and I love how the fog rolls in overnight. It would be five stars if it weren’t for the heavy day usage that gives the place a busy and crowded vibe during daytime hours.

We loved camping here the sports were great and right by the beach. Firewood was kind of expensive though and you had to drive down the road to get it.

Camping right on the ocean it was lovely we watched the sun set it wasn't the cheapest campsite we've been to but it was worth in it had great amenities and tho it wasn't right on the ocean it was only a short walk I would love to stay again in the future
