Philpott Lake

Overview

Goose Point Campground is nestled on the shores of Philpott Lake in the rugged foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. The clear water and natural shoreline make Philpott Lake a unique place for visitors. Philpott Lake Virtual Tour: https://corpslakes.erdc.dren.mil/visitors/virtual/philpott/tour.html

Recreation

The lake provides visitors with great boating and swimming opportunities. Anglers enjoy fishing for large and smallmouth bass, walleye, bluegill, crappie and catfish. Many miles of hiking and biking trails surround Philpott Lake, allowing visitors to get out and explore this scenic area.

Facilities

The campground has spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It offers 63 campsites, 53 of which have electric and water hookups. Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, and a dump station. For family-friendly entertainment, a beach, boat ramp, dock, fishing pier, picnic shelter, playground and amphitheater are also on-site.____ During non-peak season (November-March) water will be provided at a community spigot as well as a heated shower house and individual electric hook-ups. Water to individual sites and the dump station will not be provided.

Natural Features

Philpott Lake covers 2,900 acres and has 100 miles of shoreline. The lake's steep, rocky banks meet beautiful mixed forests of oak, maple, hickory, pine and cedar. Wildlife is abundant throughout the area: Deer, turkeys, squirrels, raccoons, and a variety of songbirds and waterfowl are commonly viewed.

Nearby Attractions

The lake is adjacent to Fairystone State Park and Fairystone Farms Wildlife Management Area, which includes 5,300 acres of public recreational lands.

Excellent lakeside site Quiet, peaceful

Ok. A bit close to your neighbor. Lovely shady tree’d sites. Cell data coverage a bit spotty. Download just enough for streaming on T-Mobile 5G hotspot. Verizon was sometimes as high as 2.5 mbs up & down. Cricket limped

Easy access for kayak (& motor boats). Friendly staff/hosts, firewood available for reasonable prices.

Drive-in a little steep with hairpin bend, but all good with caution

Beautiful campground

As for the overall campground, 10/10! Bathrooms are clean and what you’d expect a campground bathroom to be. Waterfront beach available, hiking trails, two piers and a theater spot with a gorgeous view. We did show up right after a huge storm, and because the electric was out the bathrooms were inaccessible. They quickly got port-a-potties until the issue was resolved. I will say if you are a tent camper like us, site 35 is the best site to avoid noisy neighbors, and is right by the bathrooms. The c loop is gorgeous but the sites are very close together for tent campers and you can very much hear everyone else. Site 1 looks amazing for tent camping also, although the bottom loop books up far in advance.

Really nice campground

We stayed here for a week in November. They have water and electric, but no sewer. There is a dump station on the way out. We were not on the lake, but could see the lake from our site. The campground was busy while we were there, but was quiet at night. The road in is a little narrow and windy but wasn't too bad. Sites are spacious.
