Beautiful, Quiet, Off-Grid

Loved this spot - we got lucky and parked right next to a swimming hole, had a gorgeous swim and enjoyed our time. No service, off-grid, really lovely.

Camping in the mountains

Lovely woody and grassy field campground with only electric at our site. The sunrise is beautiful on the big field. The sites are well spaced and fairly level. The bath house had clean and private bathing rooms with great hot water and pressure. There is a place to wash dishes outside as well.…

Wooded sites along the river

This is a beautiful campground located alongside a stream with trout fishing. Site#2 in particular is susceptible to flash flooding, but if the forecast is for dry weather, it would be hard to beat this site. Opening delayed in 2021 because of difficulty getting a campground host, but volunteers…

Infrastructure decline means limited primitive camping

Grindstone campground is a large, primitive NF site that will only have a single loop(Opossum) open with no water or electricity for 2021 and the foreseeable future.  I spoke with volunteers who stated there are extensive infrastructure needs and no funds to complete the repairs. So, if you have a…

Wild horses, beautiful trails and views

This was my third time here, but the first time in 25+ years. This is a wonderful state park located near the high point of Virginia, Mt Rogers, and as such, it is a popular destination for hikers. Oh, and there is that other natural attraction, the wild ponies that roam the mountains. It’s not…

Hidden Gem

Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway this campground is a great out of the way destination. Offers full hookup as well as tent camping. Quiet and very clean. Highly recommended !

Great views

Enjoyed the weekend. Very nice campground. Great pull through spots with great views.

No consistent cell service and no wifi if you need to work. Good excuse to shut down and enjoy the creation.

Great State Park - Beautiful Views

Very nice park. Easy pull through lots for RVs that have great views.

Only downside is phone signal. . . Not that your should need it, but sometimes we camp during the work week. Not an option here. Just enjoy the quiet.

Remote and wonderful

We did 3 hikes and they were all fantastic. Hiked to the highest point in Virginia, saw ponies and followed a beautiful river. We saw cool trees and rock formations. We really loved it. We stayed in a yurt and that was wonderful too. Really delightful.

Nice, but sites are small

Admittedly, this was our first trip out with our new (to us) travel trailer.  The campground was clean and had nice amenities.  It was too cool to play mini golf and we were there before the pool opened.  The setting around the campground is beautiful and pastoral with cows grazing.  Lots to love…

Close to town but far enough away

I enjoyed the drive out to this site, it is far enough off of the beaten path but still close to town. The site is a very easy drive to Boone and Tweetsie Railroad. We stayed at a camping cabin and it was really nice. The RVs are close to each other in proximity and RV sites are not separated by…

Great Experience

Camp Creek State Park was easy to find as our RV GPS and Waze brought us right to the Campground(CG). Check-in was quick at the little office right inside this small CG. We then proceed to back-in site 21 with FHUs, which was an easy back in. The site was nice and wide with plenty of space on each…

Great Weekend Stay

Stayed 2 nights back in September 2019. Site 33 was nice and quite private. Trails nearby for a quick hike. Only minor complaint was bugs in the bathhouse. Not horrible, but just enough to annoy. Hey it's camping not condo rental. Would recommend traveling through or weekend getaway.

This spot is incredible.

Free spot, right next to a gorgeous creek. It was totally empty in March - we didn’t see a single soul. Got a beautiful campsite right on the creek. There’s lots of gorgeous spots on this stretch of road.

Close to Town

About a 5 minute drive to Boone which makes it a great campground for doing sight seeing in town. You're never too far from stores or restaurants to enjoy. KOA is always nice to stay at but there aren't many places to hike in the campground that I've seen. Good tent camping for families who want to…
