Solid Basics

This mini loop has pretty large sites with some privacy. I only parked there for one night. While the board says you need reservations, they also do first come first served. You just leave your payment in an envelope by the board and pick a site that isn’t taken. Bathrooms are as basic as they…

Great dispersed camping at the base of Tuckerman

Hermit Lake Shelter is about 2.5 miles up from Pinkham Visitor Center/Trailhead, so you're about halfway to summit – perfect place to camp for a sunrise hike.

Restrooms, tent platforms and lean to shelters are all available at this USFS dispersed camping site right next to the AMC caretaker…

Peaceful and friendly

The campground is down a 3 mile road with nothing but woods. It sets a peaceful tone. The sides here are spaced out and some are very secluded. We stayed at a more open site (A1) with a road on both sides, but it wasn’t a problem due to it only being campground traffic. Our site was large enough…

Charming small site on the river

Such a nice well cared for campground. 39 sites with a combination of RV full hookup to primitive tent sites. Beautiful setting on a small babbling river and plenty of trees for shade. A camp store has almost anything you could need. The owners could not be more friendly and helpful. There is a…

Most RVs, not a lot of privacy

90% of the campers are RVs here. They have sites along the river and a more wooden tent area as well. We stayed at the wooded tent area. I wish camp security would patrol more often as some campers would play excessively loud music throughout the weekend.

The river sites are pretty close together…

Riverside Paradise

Most amazing spot I’ve ever camped and not too many people. Used the tent sides a quick hill walk down from the parking lot. River great for splashing around and nearby path to Lincoln Woods trail.

Remote and beautiful!

This is the most remote of the AMC's huts, sitting roughly 6 miles from a trailhead. The hike in from the Gale Rive trailhead isn't an easy hike with a loaded (or partially loaded) backpack. Staying in the hut does enable you to hike with a lighter load given that they provide bunks with…

The Most Popular AMC White Mountain Hut

This is one of the larger huts and certainly the most popular given its proximity to the summit of Mount Washington. I've spent many nights here and while it isn't my favorite hut in the White Mountains, it does seem to hold its 90+ nightly guests in a way that doesn't feel too overcrowded. There…

One of my favorite AMC Huts

I was excited to hear that the AMC Huts are going open for the 2021 season (with COVID mitigation policies in place). This is one of the easier huts to get to and is absolutely family friendly and a great introduction for anyone to the world of backpacking. The best part being that you can take…

A Family Tradition

I’ve been visiting Ricker Pond for nearly 20 years (except for the years that I don’t book enough in advance and aren’t able to secure a spot for my desired length of stay). My favorite lean to site is directly on the water, private, and fills up fast. My favorite cabin site, is set back from the…

Awesome

This is a great spot to start getting into camping with less amenities and more outdoors. I have been going there for 20 years and I still recommend it. Drive up the dirt road and find a nice riverside camp site. 3 miles of seclusion if you want. Great hiking trails directly off Tripoli . Hiking…

Perfection at 5000ft

Truly incredible. Highly recommend joining the AMC outdoors.org, before booking at any of the AMC huts. The member discount quickly offsets membership costs.
