Toll Mountain 1 (TM1) + Emory Peak + Scenic Overlook of the Chisos Basin

Toll Mountain or (TM1) is a single primitive campsite located in the Chisos Mountains in Big Bend National Park. The campsite is located 3 miles uphill from the Chisos Basin and about 50 feet from the fork of the Emory Peak Trail and the Boot Canyon Trail. The site is basically a clearing amongst some low lying trees with the only amenity being a bear box. There is a latrine/toilet near the fork of the Emory Peak Trail and Boot Canyon Trail. What makes this campsite special is that it is somewhat easily reachable from the Chisos Basin, it leads to Emory Peak (the highest point in the park) and it has some stunning scenic views of Big Bend National Park. The site is a single site on this part of the mountain, so if you are able to reserve the site you will be the only people camping in this area for 1 mile. There is no potable water at this site or along the trail so it is highly recommended that you pack in at minimum 3-4 liters of water if you plan to explore this area. Navigation to this campsite is possible with a decent sense of direction and the park trail map as the trails are clearly marked and their is a consistent flow of hikers. Primitive campsites are only reservable in person on a first come first served basis at the Ranger Station. Please be aware that there are black bears in this area of the park, so it is advisable to practice Leave No Trace principles.
