Great views, very quiet
This is a great backcountry campsite. Sunset and sunrise views are nice. You can see the Chisos in the distance. There are 2 pad sites, and a couple of other flat places to put tents.
Old Ore Road is in poor condition at the moment. This site is a 1.5hr drive from the south, or a 3hr drive from the north. A high clearance 4x4 is necessary.
If you're coming from the south, the Ernst Tinaja trail is a really awesome place to stop for a quick hike. It's exposed almost the entire way, so bring water and dress appropriately.
The only reason I'm giving 4/5 is that there are better sites on Old Ore Road imo. (Telephone Canyon, Ernst Basin, Ernst Tinaja and Roy's Peak Vista). But overall it's a great time. Very remote and peaceful.
Very Remote.
We camped here during Christmas 2019. Great camping spot! Be prepared to drive an hour south to get to pavement. Old Ore road is great and was no challenge for our Stock Powerwagon however you will get pinstriped.
